Start by identifying your simplehuman dispenser’s model and whether it uses replaceable batteries or recharges. The power checks, controls and clog-clearing steps differ between models, so do not assume one reset procedure fits every unit. Then follow the matching steps below, beginning with power and the sensor.
Identify the model and power source
Find the product label and match the dispenser to its model-specific instructions. The support pages linked here cover a 13 oz. battery-powered sensor pump and 8 oz., 9 oz. and 14 oz. rechargeable models; their procedures are not established as universal instructions for every simplehuman dispenser.
- 13 oz. battery-powered sensor pump

If your dispenser uses replaceable batteries
It will not turn on, or the light stays on or appears during dispensing
For the documented 13 oz. battery model, install fresh alkaline batteries and confirm they are oriented correctly. Inspect the contacts for corrosion. If corrosion is present, simplehuman says to gently scrape it with a flat-head screwdriver or steel wool; if it cannot be removed, the support page directs customers to order a new battery cover. The manufacturer does not recommend rechargeable batteries for this model.
The light flashes when you press “+,” but the pump makes no sound
Clean and dry the sensor window. Check for objects close to or beneath the dispenser that might trigger or obstruct the sensor, and move the unit away from intense lighting if needed. If the dispenser operates by itself, use the same checks: clean the sensor area and clear nearby objects.

It dispenses too little or not at all
Raise the dispensing setting and wipe soap residue from the valve. Thick soap or lotion may need a higher setting. simplehuman says soaps with exfoliants or moisturizing beads are not compatible with this sensor pump.
If soap residue has sealed the rubber valve, hold “+” until soap begins to flow, or gently flick the valve tip to break the seal and allow air to flow. These valve steps apply to the documented battery model, not automatically to rechargeable units.

If your dispenser is rechargeable
Check charging using the matching model instructions
Charging connections and indicators differ. For the 8 oz. model, check the cable and power source; its support page recommends a 5 V, 1 A USB adapter. If the cable appears abnormal, discontinue use and contact simplehuman support.
For the 14 oz. liquid pump and caddy, connect the charging puck to the base and look for a pulsing white light. If it does not appear, check the outlet and power adapter. Follow the applicable product page rather than borrowing another model’s charging or control instructions.

Use only the reset sequence for your model
The 14 oz. page describes switching the unit off for five seconds, cleaning the sensor window, and using a rapid power-toggle sequence while covering the sensor to activate continuous dispensing. If a clog is suspected, it says to repeat its clog-clearing procedure with warm water if needed.
The 9 oz. model’s instructions are different: hold its power button for five seconds, clean the sensor lens, turn the unit on, then follow the sensor-covered button sequence on that model’s support page. Do not apply that sequence to a different generation.

If the motor runs but soap does not come out
A clogged path or residue around the valve may be responsible, but the supported remedy depends on the model. For the 13 oz. battery pump, clean residue from the valve and gently free a sealed rubber tip as described above. For the 14 oz. rechargeable pump and caddy, use its continuous-dispense clearing procedure and repeat with warm water if needed. These are separate instructions, not a universal flushing method.

Use the model’s official support page or contact simplehuman if its matching troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, the unit is damaged, a charging cable appears abnormal, corrosion cannot be removed, or a replacement part is needed. Check compatibility by model before ordering a battery cover, charger, dock or pump. The support pages provide warranty-claim routes, but they do not establish whether a particular dispenser is covered.
