What SmartThings can do for your soundbar
Once registered, a soundbar may appear as a device in a SmartThings location and room. Depending on the model, its device card can offer phone-based power and volume control, sound-mode changes, status information, or other settings. Compatible Samsung TV and smart-home integrations may also be available, but registration does not guarantee that every control or routine works with every model. Samsung notes that features vary by soundbar: model-specific SmartThings features.

Check compatibility before setup
SmartThings support is model-specific. Check the exact model number against Samsung’s support information, product specifications, or manual before troubleshooting the app. Wi-Fi-capable soundbars are the relevant candidates; a model that offers only optical, HDMI, or Bluetooth connections may not support SmartThings registration. Samsung manuals also describe Wi-Fi setup through SmartThings for some sound devices released from 2024 onward, but that does not establish a universal cutoff for every region or model. There is also an app distinction for some newer products. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting page says Samsung Sound currently supports 2026 products and the HW-LS60D Music Frame; 2023–2025 models were described there as planned for future support. If your model’s current Samsung instructions direct you to Samsung Sound, follow those instructions rather than assuming SmartThings is the correct app: Samsung registration and app guidance.

What you need
- A Samsung soundbar confirmed to support SmartThings in your region.
- The SmartThings app installed from the Galaxy Store, Google Play Store, or Apple App Store.
- A Samsung Account, with the phone signed in to the account you want associated with the soundbar.
- The soundbar powered on and the phone connected to the Wi-Fi network you intend to use.
- Bluetooth enabled on the phone during discovery, along with working internet access.
- Current app and soundbar software where updates are available.
Minimum phone operating-system requirements differ between Samsung regional support pages and can change with app updates. Check the current app-store listing for your country rather than relying on a single global Android or iOS threshold. Connect the soundbar automatically
- Turn on the soundbar and connect your phone to the intended Wi-Fi network.
- Open SmartThings and wait for the nearby-device prompt.
- Tap Add Now. If the app asks, tap Start.
- Choose the SmartThings Location and then the Room.
- Follow any remaining Wi-Fi or registration prompts and wait for setup to finish.
- Open the soundbar’s device card to check the controls available for that model.
The prompt may not appear if the model is unsupported, the device is already associated with another account, or the soundbar is not discoverable on the local network.

Add it manually if no prompt appears
- In SmartThings, tap Add or the + icon.
- Tap Device, then choose By device.
- Select AV, then Samsung.
- Accept any terms shown and tap Start if prompted.
- Select the SmartThings Location and Room.
- Complete the Wi-Fi and registration instructions, then wait for the soundbar to appear in your device list.
Names and order can vary between SmartThings versions and regions. If the labels differ, look for the equivalent add-device flow and Samsung AV category. Samsung provides a manual-registration path in its regional setup instructions.
Verify the connection
- The soundbar appears in the intended SmartThings location and room and shows as online.
- The device card identifies the expected model.
- Test volume and power from the app; try sound-mode or input controls if they are offered.
- Close and reopen SmartThings to confirm the device remains available.
A successful registration confirms app access to the controls shown for that model; it does not mean every SmartThings feature is supported.

Understand the connection types
SmartThings registration is a network and account setup, not the same thing as connecting the soundbar to a TV or pairing it for Bluetooth audio. A soundbar can play audio normally while its SmartThings connection is offline.

Troubleshoot discovery and registration
No automatic prompt appears
- Confirm the soundbar is on, nearby, and compatible with SmartThings.
- Check that the phone is on the intended Wi-Fi network and turn on Bluetooth.
- Try the manual registration path instead of waiting for discovery.
- Check for soundbar firmware and SmartThings app updates.
- Unplug the soundbar for 30 seconds, reconnect it, reopen SmartThings, and try again.
Samsung’s registration troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking Bluetooth, removing an existing Bluetooth pairing, and power-cycling before retrying.

The app finds the wrong device or setup will not finish
Check whether the soundbar is already registered to another Samsung Account, whether the phone and soundbar are on different or isolated networks, or whether it was previously connected to another router. A used soundbar may need to be released from a previous owner’s account; app steps alone may not resolve an ownership restriction.

- If the soundbar is already listed in SmartThings, remove that device entry if it is yours to manage.
- In the phone’s Bluetooth settings, forget or remove the soundbar’s existing pairing.
- Power-cycle the soundbar, then reboot the phone and router if needed.
- Try manual registration and confirm you are signed in to the intended Samsung Account.
- Only consider a soundbar reset after checking its exact manual and recording settings you may need to restore. Reset procedures and effects vary by model.
Wi-Fi registration fails or the soundbar appears offline
Confirm the phone and soundbar can reach the same home network, the password is correct, and the router has internet access. Avoid a guest network, and check whether client or access-point isolation prevents devices from seeing each other. If the phone automatically switches among saved networks, temporarily keep it on the network used for setup. Check the soundbar manual for supported Wi-Fi configurations; do not assume every model requires 2.4 GHz.
Audio and network status are separate: HDMI or optical audio can keep working while the device is unreachable in SmartThings. Focus on Wi-Fi reachability, account registration, and app state before changing audio cables. Samsung notes that SmartThings may be needed to reconnect Wi-Fi and recommends checking software updates: Samsung soundbar connection support.
When to contact Samsung
Contact Samsung Support if the exact model is supported but registration still fails after the network, account, app, firmware, Bluetooth-pairing, and power-cycle checks, or if the soundbar appears tied to an account you cannot access. Also escalate persistent Wi-Fi disconnections after verifying router settings, suspected hardware faults, and region-specific compatibility questions. Use the model-specific manual before any factory reset or button sequence.
