Check the model’s user manual before starting if the configuration is unclear.
Identify which filter your Samsung microwave has
Samsung over-the-range microwaves may have a grease filter beneath the appliance, a charcoal filter behind the upper vent, or both. These filters serve different purposes and are maintained differently.

Vent configuration may not be obvious from appearance alone. Confirm whether your microwave exhausts outdoors through the top or rear, or recirculates air into the room, and follow the manual for your exact model. See Samsung’s filter instructions and its Canada filter guide.
How often to clean or replace the filters
Samsung Support US recommends cleaning a single grease filter at least once a month. For the dual-filter models described in its instructions, clean the filters at least once every four months or as needed. Samsung Canada’s overview recommends monthly grease-filter cleaning; the schedule for your exact model’s manual takes precedence if it differs.

For a recirculating model that uses a charcoal filter, Samsung Support US recommends replacement every 6 to 12 months, and more often if necessary. These are manufacturer recommendations, not experimentally measured service-life guarantees. Samsung Canada describes charcoal replacement once or twice a year. Availability and guidance can vary by market.
Clean a single grease filter
- Under the microwave, press the filter case at the marked “PUSH” area to release it, then pull the case out.
- Gently stretch the plastic housing to remove the filter.
- Soak the filter in hot water with mild detergent. Rinse it well and shake off excess water. If debris remains embedded, brush lightly.
- Return the filter to its case with “PUSH” upright, then slide the case into its slot until it clicks.
Clean dual grease filters
- Find the tab on each filter under the microwave. Slide each filter upward to remove it.
- Soak the filters in hot water with mild detergent, rinse well, and shake off excess water. Brush lightly if debris remains embedded.
- Insert each filter into its frame slot. Push upward and toward the opposite side to lock it; the locking direction varies by side.
Replace a charcoal filter
Use this procedure only if your model recirculates air through a charcoal filter, and confirm the steps in the model’s manual. Samsung instructs owners to disconnect power before replacement.

- Unplug the microwave or switch off power at the main supply.
- Open the door and remove the Phillips-head screws securing the vent.
- Slide the vent cover to the left and pull it out.
- Lift out the old angled filter and slide the replacement into place at the same angle.
- Reinstall the vent and screws, restore power, and reset the clock if needed.
If your model has a filter reminder, Samsung says it can be reset by pressing and holding the 0 button; reminder controls differ by model. Options or My Settings may include reminder controls. Turning off a reminder does not replace the need to maintain the filter.

If a filter is damaged or missing, match the replacement to the microwave’s exact model and configuration. Samsung directs owners to Samsung Parts. Do not assume a universal filter or choose by appearance alone: the available parts depend on the model, and the charcoal filter is relevant only to compatible recirculating configurations.
