For many Samsung front-load washers, cleaning the pump (debris) filter means draining leftover water through the emergency hose, removing and brushing the filter, checking the pump impeller, and reinstalling everything securely. First identify which filter your washer has: the front-load pump filter, a model-specific top-load lint filter, and the water-supply hose mesh filter are different parts with different instructions.
Identify the filter before you start
The access panel and procedure depend on the filter type and washer model. Do not use front-load pump-filter instructions to remove a top-load lint filter or the water-hose mesh filter.

If the panel, filter, or removal method on your washer does not match the steps below, stop and consult the user manual for your exact model or Samsung support.
Clean the pump filter on an applicable front-load washer
Have a towel, a shallow container, and a clean small soft-bristle brush ready. Residual water may spill even if the washer has already drained.

- If your Samsung washer is leaking when you use it again after cleaning the original filter with a lock, consider replacing this non lock filter! Avoiding flooding in your home.
- Turn off the washer and prepare for hot water. Unplug it where your model’s instructions direct. If it has just finished a hot Self Clean, Pure Cycle, or Sanitize cycle, Samsung US advises waiting one hour for the water to cool before draining. [Samsung US; Samsung Australia]
- Open the pump-filter access panel. On applicable front-load models, it is commonly near the lower front. Place the towel and shallow container beneath the emergency drain hose.
- Drain through the emergency hose. Hold the hose and twist off its cap, then let the water flow into the container. The washer may still contain residual water after the hose stops draining. [Samsung US; Samsung Canada]
- Remove the filter. Once the water has drained, twist the filter counterclockwise. Depending on the model, the knob may require a push-and-turn motion, similar to opening a medicine bottle.
- Clean the filter and check the housing. Brush debris from the filter with a small toothbrush or another soft-bristle brush. Check that the drain-pump impeller in the housing is free of debris; Samsung Canada also advises cleaning the recess. [Samsung US; Samsung Canada]
- Reinstall the parts. Twist the filter clockwise until secure; Samsung US says to secure it in a vertical position. Firmly replace the emergency-hose cap, return the hose to its clip, and close the access panel. [Samsung US]
How often should you clean the filter?
Samsung’s recommended pump-filter schedule differs by market. Follow the guidance for your washer’s market and model rather than treating either interval as universal.

For a separate component, Samsung Australia recommends cleaning the water-hose mesh filter one to two times a year. That schedule is not the pump-filter interval. [Samsung Australia]

When a filter inspection may help
A clogged pump filter can contribute to drainage problems and leaks. Samsung Ireland lists wet clothes at the end of a cycle, longer cycles, poor spinning, noise, and vibration as possible signs of a clogged filter. These symptoms can have other causes, so treat them as reasons to inspect the filter—not proof that it is blocked. [Samsung Ireland; Samsung US]
