To adjust a Samsung French door refrigerator, use the control-panel instructions in the manual for your exact model: some panels use Fridge and Freezer buttons, while others use touchscreen menus, Family Hub, or a selector with arrows. As a starting point, Samsung’s US guidance says most models are set to 38°F for the refrigerator and -2°F for the freezer, but recommendations vary by model and market. Confirm the compartment temperature with a thermometer rather than assuming the displayed setting is an immediate reading.
Choose a target temperature for your model
Samsung’s recommendations are not identical across every model or market. Samsung US gives 38°F for the refrigerator and -2°F for the freezer as the ideal settings for most models. A manual for the French door DRF36C500SR instead recommends 37°F (3°C) and 0°F (-18°C). Samsung Canada recommends 3°C (38°F) for the refrigerator and -19°C (-2°F) for the freezer for refrigerators sold in Canada; Samsung UK gives +3°C and -18°C as general guidance.

Use the recommendation in your exact model’s manual where it differs. The target you select is also distinct from a food-safety limit: Samsung US reports USDA advice to keep refrigerated food below 40°F and frozen food below 0°F. Samsung Canada reports Health Canada guidance of below 4°C for refrigerated food and below -18°C for frozen food. These thresholds are reported by Samsung’s regional support pages.
Find the temperature control for your panel
Panel labels and sequences differ. Samsung’s model-specific manual is the authority for which controls your refrigerator has and how to confirm a change. The following are common patterns, not universal instructions.

Button-panel models
On some models, press Fridge or Freezer repeatedly until the desired setting appears. Samsung Canada says each press usually changes the setting by 1°C or one bar; the control cycles back after reaching its lowest setting. On some bar-display models, settings are shown as illuminated bars rather than a temperature number.
Touchscreen and Family Hub models
Touchscreen models may offer temperature options in a settings menu. For Family Hub models, Samsung Canada directs users to the Fridge Manager app. Menu names and steps can vary, so follow the manual for your model rather than relying on a sequence from a different refrigerator.

Selector-and-arrow example
In the DRF36C500SR manual, the procedure is to wake the display if needed, tap the center selection control until Fridge or Freezer blinks, use the left or right arrows to choose a setting, then wait five seconds or tap the selector to confirm. This applies to that manual’s model, not every Samsung French door refrigerator.
Allow the temperature to settle
After an adjustment, avoid repeatedly changing the setting because the displayed value has not moved yet. Samsung Canada says the display may take up to four hours to update, and the interior temperature may take up to 28 hours to stabilize when the doors remain closed. Minimize door openings during that period. Some models briefly show the selected target and then return to displaying the current interior temperature.

Check the actual compartment temperature
A display setting is not necessarily an immediate measurement of the temperature where food is stored. Samsung US notes that the display reflects an average, temperatures vary by location, and opening the doors admits warm air. The back and bottom can be colder than other areas.
- To check the refrigerator, place a thermometer in a glass of water near the middle of the compartment.
- To check the freezer, place a thermometer between frozen food packages.
- Allow time for conditions to stabilize with the doors closed, then compare the thermometer reading with the applicable food-safety threshold and your model’s target setting.
Samsung’s placement instructions are in its US temperature-check guidance. If your thermometer continues to show an unsafe temperature after the settling period, consult the troubleshooting section of your model manual or Samsung support.
