Jennifer Garner’s Los Angeles home reflects her West Virginia upbringing through a family-first farmhouse sensibility, edible gardens and custom stained glass inspired by spring in her home state. The project was not presented as a reproduction of a particular Southern architectural style; its connection to Garner’s roots comes through personal memories and choices woven into a practical family home.
A personal vision shaped the design
Garner worked with longtime collaborators Steve and Brooke Giannetti. Rather than beginning with magazine clippings or mood boards, she described the home she wanted. Steve Giannetti translated that vision into a watercolor, and Garner says the finished house stayed close to it. The designers describe the project as a two-year process involving interiors collaborator Laura Putman and landscape designer Christine London.
Garner’s brief balanced atmosphere with everyday demands: “I wanted it to feel old and cool and historic, but I also wanted to make it work for a big family with a lot of things going on.” The home’s character comes from natural wood and textures, vintage furniture, gentle shapes and a calm palette. Exposed post-and-beam construction was one inspiration, while furniture choices were made with durability and family use in mind. The published tour offers a look at selected rooms, not a complete specification of every finish or furnishing.
Indoor-outdoor flow makes room for family life
Large sliding doors connect the kitchen with the pool area and bring the outdoor porch into the family room’s orbit. Steve Giannetti described the intention: “We also connected the indoors and outdoors with massive sliding doors, so the kitchen becomes part of the pool area, and the outdoor porch becomes part of the family room.” The connection makes gathering spaces feel more flexible without treating the yard as separate from the house.

Edible gardens recall Garner’s West Virginia upbringing
The clearest everyday link to Garner’s roots is the landscape. A kitchen garden supplies fruit and vegetables, while an orchard and a structure for growing vegetables bring edible plants close to daily family life. Architectural Digest connects that access to produce with Garner’s childhood home and farm-family background; ABC’s recap also notes the yard’s edible offerings.

Stained glass brings spring in West Virginia indoors
Artist Reed Bradley created custom stained-glass windows intended to evoke the season Garner remembers. As she put it, “I wanted it to be evocative of spring in West Virginia.” Architectural Digest’s gallery adds that the windows draw on illustrations from All the World, a children’s book beloved by the family.

- Savor a slice of The Mountain State with this beautifully crafted bamboo cutting board that features engraved artwork highlighting the top towns and attractions in West Virginia
- Features many of the wonderful sights and places in the state— from Charleston to Morgantown, Harpers Ferry to Huntington, Blair Mountain to Seneca Rocks and much more
- A great conversation piece when used as a serving board; flip the board over to the blank side to use as a high-quality, knife-friendly bamboo cutting board
- Makes an outstanding gift for anyone who loves West Virginia; perfect for birthdays, housewarmings, weddings or any holiday occasion
- Add some eco-friendly style to your kitchen with Moso bamboo— an incredibly durable material and renewable resource that regrows quickly after harvest
- Start with routines. Identify how people gather, read, play and move between rooms before choosing a style vocabulary.
- Choose warmth that can take use. Natural materials, vintage character and durable furnishings can coexist when performance matters alongside appearance.
- Plan indoor-outdoor connections deliberately. Doors and adjacent gathering areas can make a porch or yard function as an extension of shared living space.
- Make personal references useful or meaningful. A productive garden can connect to family history through everyday use; artwork can carry a more intimate memory into the interior.
The project is best understood as Garner’s personal, family-centered interpretation of farmhouse style, informed by her West Virginia memories—not as evidence that the house reproduces a defined Southern tradition.
