A spray turntable lets you rotate a workpiece while it stays on a platform, making it easier to reach its sides without repeatedly lifting or repositioning it. Choose a stand sized for the item and the way you spray: a small revolving platform suits decor and craft projects, while model painting, heavy work, and production booths call for different equipment.
What a spray turntable does
A spray turntable is a rotating platform that supports an object while you apply a finish. Turning the workpiece brings another side within reach, which can reduce handling between passes. It improves access; it does not by itself guarantee an even coating. You still need to control spray distance, overlap, and coverage for the finish and equipment you are using.

How to choose a stand
- Measure the workpiece. The platform must support its footprint without making it precarious, and the item needs room to rotate without striking the booth, shelter, or nearby surfaces.
- Check the weight rating. Compare the workpiece’s weight with the published capacity; do not assume one stand’s rating applies to another.
- Know how it rotates. A revolving stand may be manually turned. A production model may use compressed air and speed control. Confirm the operating method rather than assuming a product is powered.
- Consider the workstation. Check fit with your spray area or booth, along with any practical needs such as a stable base and access around the object.
For lamps, frames, and small decor within the Wagner stand’s stated size and weight limits, a simple revolving platform is the relevant class of tool. For models or figurines, a hobby turntable may fit better. Larger or heavier work requires a platform rated and sized for it; booth operators who need controlled rotation should assess purpose-built pneumatic equipment.

If a commercial stand does not suit the project, documented DIY designs offer two approaches. Woodsmith’s 2022 design uses plywood for the base and platform, a carriage bolt, a T-nut, and screws as painter’s points. It advises turning the platform counterclockwise for one coat and clockwise for the second so the platform does not back off the threaded bolt.

Woodcraft’s design uses nested galvanized pipes, plywood flanges, and a bolt to adjust the height. Its author advises checking pipe dimensions because diameters can vary. Choose a DIY design only if its materials and construction provide a stable support for the size and weight of your workpiece.
