“Mega tester” names two different instruments. This guide explains the Mega Tester V4 (listed as OS.110 V4), a system for testing the electrical and movement characteristics of Common Rail piezoelectric diesel injectors. In general electrical installation work, “mega-tester” usually means an insulation-resistance tester (megohmmeter) used on motors, compressors and cabling. The two tools do different jobs and should not be treated as interchangeable, so the general insulation tester is covered in its own section near the end.
Which meaning applies to your tool
Check the model label before you read any operating instructions. If the device is marked Mega Tester V4 or OS.110 V4 and you are working on a Common Rail piezo injector, the sections on modes, specifications and injector checks below apply. If you are checking insulation resistance on installed equipment, the general tester described later applies instead.
What the Mega Tester V4 measures
The V4 is designed to help assess the piezo element in a diesel injector and aspects of injector assembly. Its documented functions are:
- Piezo-element capacitance and resistance
- Insulation resistance at elevated test voltage
- Injector control voltage, used to check actuator stroke
- The gap between the piezo actuator and the injector’s hydraulic-valve pusher
These are diagnostic measurements. On their own they do not amount to a full injector fuel-delivery or flow-bench test, and a passing set of V4 readings does not confirm how an injector performs under fuel pressure.

The five operating modes
The manual lists five modes. The labels vary slightly between the manual text and translated interfaces, so match the exact wording shown on your own panel or software version. The instrument can be run from its front panel or from computer software, and results appear on both the display and the computer.
Parameters
This mode covers the electrical-parameter readings of the piezo element, including capacitance. The listed capacitance range is 0.5 to 10 µF.

Resistance (continuous resistance)
This mode measures piezo-element resistance and is used for checking resistance and continuity over time. The listed resistance range is 100 kΩ to 1 MΩ.
Insulation / Isolation
This mode applies an elevated test voltage to check insulation integrity. The insulation-test setting range is 50 to 1000 V. For this test the manual describes a connection between the injector contacts and the metal injector body.

Stroke
This mode generates injector control voltage to check actuator movement. The piezo-element voltage setting range is 20 to 160 V.
Gap / Span
This mode measures the gap between the piezo actuator and the hydraulic-valve pusher. The listed measurement range is 1 to 15 µm.

The table below lists the figures from the 2023 Mega Tester V4 manual published by Opensystem West. These are the model’s listed specifications. They were not independently measured, and they are not recommended test voltages or guaranteed outcomes for every component.

Safety before you connect anything
The manual warns that the device can produce dangerous voltage, and insulation-test settings reach 1000 V. Do not touch conductors, live device parts, or injector parts that may be energized. Do not connect or disconnect cables, or check contacts, while an electrical test is running. Follow the current manual and your workshop’s electrical-safety procedures before starting any test.

How a test run is structured
The steps below describe the general sequence in the manual. They are not a live-work procedure, and they assume the safety rules above have been applied.
- Choose the mode that matches your diagnostic question: electrical parameters, resistance and continuity, insulation, stroke, or gap.
- Connect the injector with the cable and connector specified for that injector type, observing the polarity the manual requires. For insulation testing, connect the injector contacts to the metal injector body as the manual describes.
- Set the test voltage or injector type where the selected mode requires it.
- Start the test from the device or from the computer software.
- Read the measured value and any device indication, then compare it with the injector manufacturer’s criteria. The instrument’s ranges are not universal pass/fail limits for every injector.
Checking a questionable capacitance reading
The manufacturer’s support centre recommends comparing a doubtful capacitance reading with a calibrated capacitance or LCR meter, or with a known capacitor. Two rules apply to the reference capacitor: its rated voltage must exceed the Mega Tester’s test voltage, and polarity must be observed.
- If the reference and the V4 agree, the reading is likely valid, and the question moves to the injector itself.
- If they disagree, recheck the connections and polarity before drawing any conclusion.
- If the fault stays unresolved, the support centre directs users to manufacturer inspection or repair rather than field adjustment.
Firmware, menu labels and service instructions can change. Check the current official support page for your software or firmware version before relying on older screenshots or repair directions. The 2023 manual is the most recent document this guide relies on.
The general insulation-resistance tester
Installation documentation also uses “500 V mega-tester” for checking compressor insulation resistance. A Daikin installation manual uses that phrase and explicitly warns against using that insulation tester on low-voltage circuits. This describes a different product for a different job, and it says nothing about the operation of the V4 injector tester.
