SwitchBot’s May 22, 2025 announcement introduced the Lock Ultra Vision Combo, Lock Ultra Touch Combo, and Hub 3. Together, they offer a retrofit smart-lock route into Apple Home through Matter. The important qualification is that this is bridged Apple Home support: Hub 3 connects SwitchBot devices to Apple Home, and the Lock Ultra does not support Apple Home Key.
What SwitchBot launched
The announcement covered two Lock Ultra bundles and a new control hub:

- Lock Ultra Vision Combo: a retrofit lock paired with a facial-recognition keypad. SwitchBot also lists NFC, fingerprint access, location-based auto-unlock, app control, and Apple Home/Siri control after Matter setup.
- Lock Ultra Touch Combo: the fingerprint-focused alternative for buyers who do not want the Vision Combo’s facial-recognition hardware.
- Hub 3: a SwitchBot hub and Matter bridge that can expose compatible SwitchBot products to Apple Home and Home Assistant.
The products were announced on May 22, 2025. Current compatibility should be checked against SwitchBot’s Matter device list and the relevant product documentation, since app, firmware, and platform requirements can change.
How the Apple Home integration works
The Lock Ultra is not being presented as a native Apple Home lock with its own direct Apple Home Key implementation. The architecture is:
Popular on Amazon
- Ultra Compatibility : Compatible with most standard apartment door locks in the US. Jimmy Proof and Mortise locks can be supported with the SwitchBot Lock Ultra Accessory Kit, sold separately, so there’s no need to replace your lock core when upgrading your door lock. Includes three complimentary wood grain stickers for DIY customization and a personalized look. Not directly compatible with European locksets or cylinders unless the correct EU mount/version is used.
- Ultra Power-Long-lasting battery : The Triple Power System provides 12 months of continuous use. Equipped with a high-speed, low-noise motor, it automatically switches to Quiet Mode at night, disabling sounds effects to ensure the rest for your family.

Lock Ultra → SwitchBot app and Hub 3 → Matter → Apple Home
- Add the lock to the SwitchBot app.
- Add Hub 3 to Apple Home as a Matter gateway.
- Synchronize the lock from Hub 3’s Matter settings as a secondary device.
- Use Apple Home for basic control, status, automations, and Siri commands.
SwitchBot’s documentation identifies Lock, Lock Pro, and Lock Ultra as supported Apple Home sub-devices. The documented lock functions include locking and unlocking, but Matter integration does not guarantee that every SwitchBot feature will appear in Apple Home.
Lock Ultra: access methods and retrofit considerations
The Vision Combo is aimed at households that want several ways to enter without relying on a phone. Its advertised methods include 3D facial recognition, NFC, fingerprint access, location-based auto-unlock, SwitchBot app control, and Apple Home or Siri control after setup.
SwitchBot says its facial-recognition system maps a face using more than 30,000 infrared points and can unlock in under a second. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results. Real-world performance will depend on lighting, positioning, calibration, battery condition, and the door hardware.
The Touch Combo is the more straightforward choice for buyers who prefer fingerprint access and do not want facial recognition. Do not assume the two bundles have identical hardware or feature sets; confirm the current specification for the exact bundle before buying.
Retrofit does not mean universally compatible
SwitchBot and launch coverage describe the Lock Ultra as a retrofit product that can be installed without drilling new holes and works with nearly every lock type in North America and Europe. That is a broad compatibility claim, not a substitute for checking the actual door.
Before ordering, verify:
- deadbolt geometry and thumb-turn shape;
- door thickness and backset;
- clearance around the interior lock body;
- space and weather exposure for the exterior keypad;
- whether the existing deadbolt turns smoothly by hand.
A stiff, poorly aligned deadbolt can cause failed locking, slow operation, excess battery drain, and motor noise. Test and correct the mechanical lock before diagnosing Matter, Apple Home, or Hub 3.
Battery and motor claims
Launch coverage reports SwitchBot claims of up to one year from the rechargeable battery and up to five years from a backup cell. The company also describes FastUnlock technology and a faster, stronger, quieter motor than earlier models. These are estimates and product claims, not guaranteed service intervals. Usage frequency, temperature, network behavior, calibration, and door alignment will affect results.
What Hub 3 adds
Hub 3 is more than a Matter bridge. SwitchBot’s current US product page lists it at US$119.99 and highlights:

- a display for status, weather, and sensor information;
- alarm-clock functionality.
Hub 3 can also display or monitor CO₂ when paired with the required SwitchBot Meter Pro CO₂ product. The product-page “30-plus devices” wording should be distinguished from the support documentation’s specific Apple Home synchronization limit: SwitchBot says Hub 3 can sync up to 30 sub-devices to Apple Home.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat limit is a meaningful upgrade for larger SwitchBot installations. The cited Hub 2 documentation describes an eight-device total limit, including its own sensors. Existing Hub 2 or Hub Mini Matter Enabled owners may therefore have little reason to upgrade for a single lock, but a growing SwitchBot system makes Hub 3 more compelling.
How to add Hub 3 and Lock Ultra to Apple Home
Requirements in SwitchBot’s cited iOS guide
- SwitchBot Hub 3;
- an iPhone;
- a HomePod or Apple TV configured as an Apple Home hub;
- SwitchBot app version 9.17 or newer for the cited guide;
- current Hub 3 firmware;
- the iPhone, Apple home hub, and Hub 3 on the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network;
- the Matter setup code or the QR code on the rear of Hub 3.
SwitchBot’s support article refers to an Apple home hub compatible with iOS 16.1 or later. Treat these as the requirements in that documentation, and check the current guide before installation.
Add Hub 3 to Apple Home
- Update the SwitchBot app and add Hub 3 to it.
- Update Hub 3’s firmware.
- Open Hub 3’s settings in the SwitchBot app.
- Select Matter Setup (Beta).
- Copy the Matter code, or use the QR code on the back of Hub 3.
- If using the copied code, reset Hub 3 by holding its On and Off buttons for 15 seconds, as directed by SwitchBot’s guide.
- Open Apple Home and select Add or Scan Accessory.
- Choose More Options, then My Accessory Isn’t Shown Here.
- Select Enter Code and paste the Matter code.
- Wait for Hub 3 to appear as a gateway.
After the gateway is added, Hub 3’s temperature and humidity sensor should also appear in Apple Home.
Synchronize Lock Ultra as a secondary device
- Open the SwitchBot app and select Hub 3.
- Open the gear icon for settings.
- Select Matter Setup (Beta).
- Select Add Secondary Devices.
- Choose Lock Ultra and complete synchronization.
Adding the hub does not automatically mean that every SwitchBot product is added to Apple Home. The lock must be synchronized separately.

Once synchronization succeeds, the lock should be available in Apple Home for manual lock and unlock control, Siri commands, status checks, and automations involving its lock state. SwitchBot explicitly documents Siri-based locking and unlocking.
However, Apple Home is not a replacement for the SwitchBot app’s complete control surface. Facial-recognition administration, NFC setup, fingerprint-user management, calibration, battery settings, and detailed access logs may remain app-only. Matter exposes the functions SwitchBot chooses to publish, so integration should be understood as ecosystem compatibility rather than full feature parity.
The biggest limitation: no Apple Home Key
Lock Ultra does not support Apple Home Key according to the launch coverage. That means an iPhone or Apple Watch cannot simply be tapped against the lock for Home Key authentication.
You can still use the SwitchBot keypad, fingerprint or facial-recognition hardware depending on the bundle, NFC, the SwitchBot app, or Apple Home and Siri controls. But if tap-to-unlock with an iPhone or Apple Watch is the main reason you are shopping for an Apple-compatible lock, Lock Ultra is the wrong fit.

Common setup problems
Hub 3 does not appear in Apple Home
Confirm that the iPhone, Apple home hub, and Hub 3 are on the same 2.4GHz network; update the app and firmware; recheck the Matter code; and confirm that a HomePod or Apple TV is configured as an Apple home hub. If manual code entry fails, try scanning the QR code on Hub 3. Use SwitchBot’s Hub 3 Matter setup guide and Hub troubleshooting resources before repeatedly resetting the lock.
The hub appears, but the lock does not
Open Hub 3 in SwitchBot and use Matter Setup (Beta) → Add Secondary Devices. The hub and lock are separate Matter objects.
The lock works in SwitchBot but not in Apple Home
Check the current compatibility table, including any minimum firmware requirements and function restrictions. Visibility in the SwitchBot app does not prove that every feature is supported in Apple Home.
Who should buy Lock Ultra and Hub 3?
Lock Ultra Vision Combo makes sense if you:
- want facial recognition alongside fingerprint, NFC, and app-based access;
- prefer several entry methods instead of relying on Apple Home Key;
- already use SwitchBot products;
- accept the privacy implications of facial biometric hardware.
Lock Ultra Touch Combo makes sense if you:
- prefer fingerprint access;
- do not want facial recognition;
- want Apple Home control through Matter and a compatible SwitchBot hub.
Hub 3 makes sense if you:
- already have multiple SwitchBot accessories;
- need Apple Home or Home Assistant access;
- want physical scene buttons, a dial, IR control, or room sensing;
- expect to exceed older hub limits.
It is harder to justify Hub 3 for a single lock if you do not otherwise need its controls, sensors, display, or SwitchBot ecosystem. Remember to compare the complete cost of the lock, keypad bundle, required hub, batteries, and optional accessories—not just the lock’s advertised price.
Alternatives by priority
For Apple Home Key: investigate model-specific offerings from Aqara, Level, Yale, Schlage, and U-tec Ultraloq. Not every model in these product categories supports Apple Home, Matter, or Home Key, so check the exact model and country.
For a simpler SwitchBot route: SwitchBot Lock Pro is another supported Matter-to-Apple-Home option, but it is not the choice for buyers specifically seeking Lock Ultra’s facial-recognition hardware or newest access methods.
For existing SwitchBot owners: Hub 2 or Hub Mini Matter Enabled may already be sufficient for a small installation. Hub 3’s stronger case is its larger Apple Home capacity and additional physical controls and hub features.
Verdict
SwitchBot’s Lock Ultra family is a practical option for SwitchBot-heavy homes that want Apple Home control plus multiple keypad-based entry methods. Hub 3 strengthens the proposition with Matter bridging, a 30-sub-device Apple Home capacity, display, sensors, IR control, buttons, and a dial.
Recommended Free Tools
It is not an Apple Home Key replacement. Buyers who want native Apple-first access, minimal bridge complexity, complete feature parity in Apple Home, or guaranteed compatibility with an unusual deadbolt should look elsewhere or verify those requirements carefully before purchasing.
