Hisense announced the European U8NQ Mini-LED TV on June 6, 2024, in 65-inch and 75-inch versions. Its headline feature is a solar-assisted rechargeable remote, but the television’s main selling points are its Mini-LED backlight, claimed peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, 144Hz gaming mode and HDR support. In 2026, the U8NQ is an older model, so its value depends heavily on country-specific pricing and stock.
Launch price and availability
Hisense Germany said the U8NQ would be available from June 2024. The launch recommended retail prices were:

| Size | Launch RRP |
|---|---|
| 65-inch U8NQ | €1,999 |
| 75-inch U8NQ | €2,699 |
Contemporary UK coverage reported prices of £1,799 for the 65-inch model and £2,299 for the 75-inch version. These are historical launch prices, not universal current prices. A Hisense Netherlands product page displayed the 65-inch model at €1,899 when crawled on August 18, 2026, but that figure should be treated as a country-specific page price rather than a Europe-wide street price.

What the solar-powered remote actually does
The U8NQ is supplied with a remote containing an integrated solar cell. The purpose is to reduce routine battery replacement by harvesting ambient light. This makes “solar-assisted rechargeable remote” the most useful practical description.
It is not a solar-powered television, and the remote should not be understood as battery-free or guaranteed never to need charging. A remote left in a dark drawer cannot collect light, while ordinary indoor lighting may recharge it more slowly than daylight. The available evidence does not establish a charging time, operating duration, battery chemistry or minimum light level.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Contemporary launch coverage also reported a Find My Remote function through the TV; availability may depend on the supplied remote and regional software.
The feature is a worthwhile convenience, especially for households that regularly lose remotes or use disposable batteries. It is not, by itself, a reason to choose the U8NQ over a newer television.
Display and HDR specifications
The European U8NQ is a 4K Ultra HD television with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. Hisense markets it as a Mini-LED Pro display with full-array local dimming, rather than conventional edge lighting. Mini-LED backlighting can provide brighter highlights and more controlled contrast than basic LED designs, although results depend on the dimming algorithm, scene content, panel variation and viewing angle.
Hisense claims peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. That is a manufacturer peak figure, not a guarantee that the entire screen can sustain 3,000 nits. Small HDR highlights and full-screen brightness are measured differently, so the number should not be treated as an independent laboratory result.

- HI - QLED MINILED: Striking contrast and vivid, lifelike color put every scene in a new light. Whether it's a sunny landscape or a candlelit drama, the picture leaps off the screen. Mini-LED backlighting uses hundreds of precise light zones to enhance contrast across the screen. Paired with Hi-QLED technology, every color comes through with stunning depth and accuracy
- NATIVE 144HZ REFRESH RATE: Fast breaks, high-speed chases, live finales — every frame stays crisp and fluid, so the action is always exactly where you need it to be. Native 144Hz refresh performance keeps movement fast and sharp, reducing blur during gameplay and live sports. The quick response helps you stay in control during competitive gaming while making rapid camera shots in shows and movies easier to follow
- BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER: Immersive deep bass from the built-in subwoofer pulls you into the heart of the moment, from the rumble of an explosion to the thump of your favorite song. Feel like you’re a part of the action
- ANTI-REFLECTION & GLARE-FREE: Bright rooms are no match for this screen. The anti-reflection and glare-free display keeps your view clean and distraction-free, so you stay focused on what matters — the show
- UNIBODY SLIM DESIGN: Edge-to-edge display and a seamless design that disappears into your room — so all you see is the picture
German coverage reported an anti-reflective or low-reflection screen treatment. This may help in bright rooms, but its effect on perceived contrast and image character should not be assumed without independent testing. Mini-LED also remains capable of blooming or halos around subtitles, stars and other bright objects against dark backgrounds, and it does not offer OLED’s pixel-level black control or wide viewing angles.
Gaming features
Hisense lists a native 120Hz panel and up to 144Hz variable-refresh-rate operation in Game Mode Pro. Reported gaming features include AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDMI 2.1 support, a Game Bar and an input-lag claim below 9.7ms.
The 9.7ms figure should be regarded as a reported specification rather than an independent measurement. Likewise, 144Hz is not automatically available from every source or HDMI input. It requires a compatible PC or other device, the correct resolution and refresh-rate settings, an appropriate port and Game Mode configuration.

VRR, HDR, Dolby Vision gaming and 4K at 144Hz are separate compatibility questions. Buyers should check the regional specification sheet and port labels rather than assuming every HDMI connection supports every gaming feature.
VIDAA makes the European model different from the US U8N
One of the most important differences is the smart-TV platform. The European U8NQ uses Hisense’s VIDAA Smart OS, identified on the current Dutch product page as VIDAA, while the US U8N uses Google TV.
Netflix and YouTube were cited among the available services, and launch coverage reported Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa control. However, app availability, features and update schedules can vary by country on VIDAA. Do not assume that an app available on a US U8N review or on Google TV will also be available on the European U8NQ.
Before buying, check the local VIDAA app store for any broadcaster, sports service or niche streaming platform you depend on. A separate streaming device can provide a fallback, but it adds cost and another remote.
This regional distinction also means that US U8N reviews are useful for broad family positioning only. They are not definitive evidence about the U8NQ’s software, port layout, tuner configuration, panel behavior or warranty.

Audio and connectivity
Contemporary launch coverage reported a built-in 2.1.2-channel audio system rated at 60W, with Dolby Atmos support. That is more substantial on paper than basic television speakers, but a soundbar can still be worthwhile for clearer dialogue, stronger bass or a larger surround effect.
Reported connectivity includes HDMI 2.1, USB-C 3.0, optical S/PDIF, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6, as well as soundbar connectivity. The precise number and allocation of HDMI ports should be confirmed from the specification sheet for the exact size and country. The US U8N’s port arrangement is not proof that the European U8NQ uses the same layout.
For installation, verify the exact model’s VESA pattern, stand width, cabinet depth and cable routing. A soundbar may obstruct the lower edge or remote sensor depending on its height and placement. A 65-inch or 75-inch television may require two people, suitable wall construction and a seller with practical large-item return arrangements.

- Bright-room viewers: The Mini-LED design and Hisense’s high peak-brightness claim are aimed at rooms where strong HDR highlights and reflection control matter.
- HDR enthusiasts: The listed Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG support covers the major consumer HDR formats.
- PC and console gamers: The 120Hz panel, 144Hz Game Mode Pro claim, VRR and FreeSync support are attractive when the source and port setup are compatible.
- Buyers who dislike disposable batteries: The solar-assisted remote is a useful ownership convenience.
It is less suitable for buyers who require Google TV, a specific country-specific app, OLED-like viewing angles or consistently uniform black levels. It is also a weaker proposition in 2026 if sold close to its original launch RRP while newer generations are available at similar prices.
European U8NQ versus US U8N
| Feature | European U8NQ | US U8N |
|---|---|---|
| Smart platform | VIDAA Smart OS | Google TV |
| Regional app availability | Country-specific VIDAA catalogue | Google TV catalogue and US configuration |
| Sizes and hardware | 65-inch and 75-inch sizes reported at European launch | Do not assume identical sizes, panel or port configuration |
| Remote | Solar-powered remote reported for the European lineup | Remote configuration may differ by region |
| Warranty and tuner | Country-specific | US-specific |
The shared U8 family name does not make these televisions interchangeable. Importing a US review or a US-market set can create problems with apps, broadcast tuners, warranty coverage, power requirements and service support.
2026 buying verdict
The U8NQ’s solar remote is a genuine differentiator, but it is a supporting feature. The buying case rests on the Mini-LED backlight, full-array local dimming, HDR format support, gaming capabilities and the price available in your country.
Because the model launched in 2024, compare it with newer Hisense televisions and competing displays before paying near the original RRP. Buy only after confirming the exact regional specification, required apps, current warranty and return policy. If the price is meaningfully discounted and VIDAA meets your needs, the U8NQ can still be an appealing bright-room and gaming TV. If software flexibility or OLED-style viewing performance matters more, its headline brightness and solar remote may not compensate for the trade-offs.
