It describes a pivoting bookcase installed over an existing doorway, with side cases supporting the assembly. The stated material approach is pre-finished plywood with solid-wood face frames and doors.
The page reports a 1,500-lb rating for its separately sold pivot mechanism. That is a rating attributed to the mechanism cited by the listing—not a safe-load specification for every completed bookcase door. The finished assembly’s weight, book load, geometry, mounting surfaces, and installation all matter. Check the current hardware rating and instructions for the exact configuration you intend to build.
The listing confirms a downloadable plan but does not fully enumerate the current file contents. Do not assume it includes a particular cut list, hinge-location template, or clearance drawing unless those items are confirmed in the current plan.

Measure the opening and plan the swing before building
The bookcase has to clear the doorway, its trim, adjacent casework, and nearby walls throughout its entire arc—not merely when closed or fully open. Resolve the site dimensions and mounting conditions before settling the case size or ordering a pivot.
- Opening and trim: Measure the doorway and casing, including any irregularities that affect the frame or moving case.
- Swing direction and clearance: Decide which way the bookcase will move, then check its path through the full arc against walls, trim, and the strike-side case.
- Pivot position: Establish where the upper and lower pivots will sit and how they will align. The hardware and plan must suit the actual opening and swing.
- Floor and header: Identify the surfaces and structure that will receive the pivot hardware. A pivoting assembly needs appropriate support at its mounting points; decorative trim alone is not evidence of structural backing.
- Finished load: Account for the completed case and its intended contents when selecting hardware. Do not treat a mechanism’s stated rating as the permissible load of an unverified installation.
A separate measured-drawings seller describes its own plan as including measurements, construction drawings, a hinge-location template, clearance and trim measurements, and installation tips. Those are that seller’s stated deliverables, not confirmed contents of the WOOD Store plan. Its drawings also illustrate why trim and neighboring cases can affect movement; the exact clearances must be worked out for your doorway.

Choose compatible hardware or a kit
The pivot mechanism is not an interchangeable afterthought: its mounting method, current rating, geometry, and instructions need to match the complete moving assembly and the structure available at the floor and header. Before committing to a plan or kit, compare these points:
- Does it fit the measured opening and intended swing direction?
- Can the case clear the trim and surrounding construction through its full travel?
- Does the current hardware documentation address the finished, loaded assembly and its mounting conditions?
- Are upper and lower pivot locations compatible and aligned?
- What is included—frame, support foot, fasteners, templates, instructions, or an assembled case?
- Do you want to build the bookcase itself, or install a purpose-built or assembled unit?
Popular Woodworking discusses pivot hinges as a way to transfer load to structural support at the jamb, threshold, and header, and describes a purpose-built kit with instructions for a 36-inch door. Its article-era specifications and price are not current shopping guidance. Custom Service Hardware’s 2023 catalog describes InvisiDoor bookcase kits with pivot hardware and says some units are assembled and ready to install; check the current catalog for dimensions, contents, rating, stock, and fit before choosing one.

For a related, smaller-scale approach, Kreg’s hidden-door shelf plan uses pocket-hole joinery and Murphy hidden-hinge hardware. It is a different design, so its hardware and specifications should not be assumed to apply to this full-height, side-case-supported project.
Build around the doorway, not a generic cut list
A plan is a starting point; the opening, support structure, and hardware determine whether its dimensions work at your site. Confirm that the plan’s drawings and parts suit your actual measurements before cutting. If the opening, floor, or header differs from the plan assumptions, resolve that difference in the design rather than forcing the assembly into place.

- Document the opening: Record the clear dimensions, casing and trim, floor condition, nearby walls, and the available structure at the intended pivot mounts.
- Set the swing and case envelope: Choose the swing direction and determine the moving case’s maximum footprint through its full arc, including clearances to adjacent construction.
- Match the plan to the site: Review the actual plan contents and drawings. Confirm that its dimensions and pivot locations can work with the measured doorway; obtain missing details rather than assuming them.
- Select and verify the pivot: Use the hardware maker’s current installation instructions and rating. Confirm mounting requirements, pivot alignment, and suitability for the complete finished assembly and intended contents.
- Build and install to the specified support: Follow the plan and hardware instructions for the case, side supports, and pivot mounts. Do not substitute trim or an unverified surface for required structural support.
- Check movement before loading: Verify the path and clearances through the swing, then follow the hardware maker’s guidance for final adjustment and loading.
What to verify before choosing a downloadable plan
The WOOD Store page identifies the project and its material approach, but does not fully state the current file contents, price, or availability. Review the live listing before purchase and make sure the drawings answer your practical build questions—especially the dimensions, pivot placement, mounting details, and clearance needed at your doorway. The existence of a separate measured-drawings product does not establish that those same drawings or templates are included with this plan.
