Harbor Freight’s listings checked on October 8, 2026, show lower entry prices for several basic corded and gas saws, while the sampled Home Depot listings include a wider mix of brands and configurations. The prices are not a like-for-like performance test: compare power type, bar length, included battery equipment, warranty terms and local checkout price before deciding.
What the listed prices show
The table summarizes models and prices shown on the retailers’ category pages when checked on October 8, 2026. Prices and stock can change by date and location. The Home Depot examples come from listings filtered for a two-year limited warranty; that filter is not a substitute for checking the warranty document for an individual model.

Which chainsaw is the better value at Harbor Freight or Home Depot?
For a lower initial price on a basic corded saw, Harbor Freight’s sampled listings are cheaper: $59.99 for its 14-inch PORTLAND compared with $99 for Home Depot’s 14-inch BLACK+DECKER. The 16-inch corded examples follow the same price pattern, at $89.99 for Harbor Freight’s BAUER and $129 for Home Depot’s Homelite. These are price comparisons between listed configurations, not evidence that one saw cuts better or lasts longer.

For gas, the answer depends on the model rather than the store label. Harbor Freight lists an 18-inch PORTLAND at $189.99; Home Depot’s sampled 18-inch Senix is $129, while its 18-inch Troy-Bilt is $229. Different brands, engine specifications and listing contexts make those prices useful for narrowing options, but not enough to declare an overall winner.
Harbor Freight’s sampled category includes two cordless models, both tool only. The reviewed Home Depot sample does not establish an equivalent cordless comparison. A low tool-only price is not the complete cost if you still need the compatible battery and charger.

Is the Harbor Freight chainsaw worth it?
It may be worth considering when its lower listed price and configuration match the job, and you have checked the exact model’s warranty, included equipment and local availability. A 10-inch pruning saw, a 14-inch corded saw and an 18-inch gas saw are not interchangeable choices. Match the bar length and power source to the wood and work you expect to handle rather than choosing by price alone.
The listings do not establish comparative cutting speed, reliability, repairability or service experience. Amperage, voltage, engine displacement and bar length describe listed specifications; they are not controlled evidence of real-world performance.

Compare the full cost and terms before buying
Check what the box includes
For cordless models, confirm whether the listing is tool only and price the required battery and charger if you do not already own a compatible platform. For gas saws, account for fuel and the required two-cycle oil. For any saw, budget for bar-and-chain oil, sharpening and a compatible replacement chain. Harbor Freight’s chainsaw promotion page lists bar-and-chain oil and a sharpener; verify the saw manual and chain specification before buying supplies.
Verify warranty and return details by model
Home Depot’s sampled pages were filtered by a two-year limited-warranty category, and its gas listing used the same filter. That does not establish the exact terms for every model in the table. The available Harbor Freight listing evidence does not provide equivalent model-specific warranty terms for a fair comparison. Read the warranty document for the exact saw and check each retailer’s current return and service terms before purchase.

Confirm the price where you will buy
The prices here are retailer listing snapshots checked October 8, 2026, not guaranteed local prices. Membership offers, promotions, inventory and checkout totals can vary. In particular, the Harbor Freight BAUER 20V category and product pages disagreed, and the PORTLAND gas-saw member offer had an October 8 expiration date.

- Choose the power type for the job. Compare corded with corded, gas with gas and cordless with cordless; do not treat a small pruning saw as a substitute for a longer-bar saw.
- Match bar length and listed power specifications. Record the bar length and the amp, voltage or engine displacement. Use these as configuration details, not as proof of performance.
- Calculate the ready-to-use cost. Add any missing battery and charger, plus the appropriate operating and maintenance supplies.
- Read the model’s warranty and retailer terms. A search filter or category label alone does not tell you all the terms that apply to a particular saw.
- Check local stock and checkout price. Confirm promotions, membership conditions and availability in the market where you plan to buy.
What the comparison can—and cannot—settle
In the listings checked October 8, 2026, Harbor Freight shows lower starting prices for the sampled corded saws, while Home Depot’s sampled results span more brands and model configurations. Those pages do not establish a complete inventory comparison, a model-for-model warranty ranking, or which retailer’s saws perform better or last longer. Treat the numbers as a shortlist, then choose the specific model that fits the work and total cost you can verify.
