Harbor Freight does not publish a horsepower rating for its Predator 212 Ghost (item 57531), so its actual stock horsepower cannot be confirmed from the manufacturer’s specifications. Harbor Freight also does not officially identify the head as hemi or non-hemi. An independent teardown calls it a Ducar hemi head, but owner claims conflict.
How much horsepower does the Predator 212 Ghost have?
Harbor Freight lists the Ghost as a 212cc kart-racing engine, but its product page and June 1, 2022 launch announcement provide no horsepower figure. No adequately documented primary dyno result establishes the stock engine’s measured horsepower. The accurate answer is that Harbor Freight does not publish an HP rating for the Ghost; its actual output remains unconfirmed.

Do not use the familiar 6.5 HP figure as the Ghost’s specification. That rating belongs to Harbor Freight’s separate standard 212cc OHV horizontal-shaft engine, item 69730. The two engines share a 212cc displacement, but that does not make their ratings interchangeable.

Is the Predator 212 Ghost a hemi?
Harbor Freight does not designate the Ghost head as hemi or non-hemi in the official product information reviewed. Kentucky Fried Fixes’ April 12, 2022 teardown describes the head as a Ducar hemi head, while an owner discussion describes it as non-hemi-style. Those conflicting secondary claims do not establish an official classification.

What distinguishes the Ghost from a standard Predator 212?
The Ghost is positioned as a competition kart engine, not simply as a regular Predator 212 with a different horsepower label. Harbor Freight lists racing-oriented features including a dual ball-bearing racing crank, digital ignition, fire-ring head gasket, racing piston-ring package, and high-flow intake port.
Harbor Freight’s launch announcement says the D-shaped high-flow racing port lets more air move through the combustion chamber and explains that more air means more power on track. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the design, not a quantified horsepower or dyno result. Racing parts and a higher rev limiter do not, by themselves, prove a particular HP figure.

What equipment does the Ghost need, and what should you check?
Harbor Freight says the Ghost requires intake and exhaust components sold separately in an accessory kit. Its June 2022 launch announcement described the kit as including an exhaust pipe, muffler, silencer and mounting hardware, air filter, fuel line, head gasket, fuel pump, and other pieces. Confirm current kit contents and availability before purchase.
- Use: Harbor Freight labels the Ghost “Competition use only.” Check the rules for the class and track where you intend to run it.
- Fitment: The product listing says the engine drop fits major chassis brands, but confirm the mount pattern, shaft, and intake and exhaust fit for your kart.
- Rev limiter: Harbor Freight’s June 1, 2022 launch announcement states 6100 RPM, while its current engine category page lists 6000 RPM. Because the official pages conflict, check the current manual or the engine itself rather than treating either number as uncontested.
