The Grilling Center Woodworking Plan is a WOOD Magazine project for a mobile outdoor prep and storage station—not a grill. It is presented as a cedar build with ample storage, prep space and accessory hooks, plus an option to replace the standard top with a concrete slab. The public listing does not include the drawings or enough specifications to estimate materials or build from the description alone.
What the Grilling Center plan is for
WOOD describes the project as a mobile culinary station for outdoor cooking and preparation. It provides a work surface, storage and hooks for hanging accessories. It is furniture built to support a grilling area; it is not a grill, and the listing does not identify a particular grill or accessory system.
The project appeared in WOOD Issue 227, September 2014. The project page was updated January 9, 2024. WOOD’s store listing identifies the plan as product GR-01032.
Material and top options
Cedar build
The publisher says the station can be built using home-center cedar. That makes cedar boards for the build a relevant starting point, but the public description does not state board dimensions, grade or quantities. Check the plan’s material schedule and drawings before buying cedar lumber; the listing alone is not enough to choose stock or calculate a takeoff.

Concrete-slab top
The project description also presents replacing the standard top with a concrete slab as an option. It does not provide slab dimensions, construction details, comparative cost, weight or maintenance guidance. Treat this as a design alternative, not a complete specification: use the plan’s actual directions to confirm how the top is made and supported before proceeding.
What the public listing does—and does not—tell you
- It establishes: the project’s purpose, the cedar option, the concrete-top alternative, and the publisher’s issue and product-code details.
- It does not establish: finished dimensions, a cut list, lumber quantities, hardware specifications, a verified budget, or a verified build time. The public project description does not expose the full drawings or construction instructions.
Because those specifications are missing from the public description, do not use it alone to plan cuts, select hardware, estimate cost, or build the station. Consult the Grilling Center plan for the dimensions and construction details.
