Google Home 4.1 was a refinement release, not a second redesign. Released in October 2025 after the larger 4.0 overhaul, it expanded access to Gemini-powered Ask Home for more Google Home Premium subscribers, improved Home-tab scrolling on iPhone and iPad, corrected the Android “All on” lighting control, and clarified Home Brief labeling.
Version 4.1 is now historical rather than current: Google’s release notes and app listings show that later Google Home versions were available by 2026.

Google Home 4.1 at a glance
| Area | What changed |
|---|---|
| Official release date | October 14, 2025, according to Google’s release notes. |
| Android | The Lights category’s “All on” control now more accurately reflects whether every light is on. |
| iOS | Home-tab scrolling became smoother, particularly for homes with several camera Favorites. |
| Ask Home | Google expanded access to more Google Home Premium subscribers. |
| Home Brief | Google corrected wording that could call a previous-day briefing “today’s Home Brief.” |
| Current status | 4.1 is not the latest Google Home version as of 2026. |
The iOS App Store listed version 4.1.47 on October 15, 2025. An Android build record for version 4.1.55.1 was uploaded on October 21, 2025. Those dates reflect store and build availability, not necessarily different feature sets or simultaneous worldwide rollouts.

Ask Home expanded—but not for everyone
The most consequential change in 4.1 was wider access to Ask Home, Google’s Gemini-powered search and conversational interface inside the Google Home app. Depending on eligibility, users can use natural-language requests to find devices and automations, ask simple questions about their home, control compatible devices, create automations, search camera history, and access features such as Home Brief or saved information.
Version 4.1 expanded Ask Home to more Google Home Premium subscribers. It did not make every Ask Home capability available to every Google Home account.
What is available without a subscription?
Google’s current Ask Home documentation distinguishes access by plan. Without a subscription, supported users may have access to quick search, simple device queries, and real-time device controls. Google Home Premium Standard can add functions such as automation creation and saved information, while Premium Advanced can provide Home Brief and Ask Home camera-history search.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsActual availability can also depend on the country, language, Google Account, home, compatible devices, and staged rollout status. A Premium subscription does not mean every feature works identically with every camera or in every region.

Where was Ask Home available?
Google’s availability documentation lists supported markets including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, parts of Western Europe, Japan, and Mexico. Country support and language support are separate questions, and Google did not necessarily enable every 4.1 feature in every listed market at the same time.
Updating the app also does not guarantee immediate access. Some Gemini for Home features are activated server-side, and Google says rollout can take time. For current plan and regional details, check Google’s Gemini for Home availability page.
Android: a more accurate “All on” lighting control
The documented Android-specific fix concerns the “All on” button in the Lights category. Before the correction, the control could fail to represent the actual state of the lights. In version 4.1, Google says the button is properly greyed out when not every light is turned on.

It should make the control less misleading when lights in a group have different states, but it does not change how individual lights, rooms, or routines work.

- Compact 7" Display Design – Great for kitchens, bedrooms, desks, offices, counters, and nightstands with a clean modern smart display design.
iPhone and iPad: smoother Home-tab scrolling
On iOS, Google highlighted smoother scrolling through the Home tab, especially when users had added multiple cameras to Favorites. This is a responsiveness improvement rather than a promised loading-time reduction or quantified frame-rate increase.
Performance can still vary with the iPhone or iPad model, operating-system version, home configuration, number of Favorites, and later app changes. Not every iOS user should expect an identical improvement.
Home Brief received a wording correction
Ask Home’s Home Brief could describe a briefing from the previous day as “today’s Home Brief.” Version 4.1 corrected that confusing context or title.

It is a clarity fix, not the introduction of a new Home Brief feature. Home Brief access remains dependent on the relevant Google Home Premium plan and availability rules.

- Tap your profile picture.
- Select Manage apps & device.
- Look for Google Home under available updates, or search for Google Home directly.

iPhone or iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your account picture.
- Select App Updates.
- Find Google Home and tap Update, if one is available.

- Update the app: Install the latest version available for your platform.
- Check the account and home: Make sure you are using the Google Account and Google Home home associated with the subscription or devices.
- Check country and language: Ask Home and individual Gemini features have different regional and language requirements.
- Check the plan: Camera-history search, Home Brief, automation creation, and other functions may require different Google Home Premium tiers.
- Allow for rollout: The correct app version may be installed before Google enables the feature on the account.
If there is no Gemini disclosure or setup prompt, that does not by itself prove the installation is broken. It may indicate an account, region, language, plan, device, or rollout limitation.

Other problems after updating
| Symptom | Likely explanation and next step |
|---|---|
| Ask Home cannot search cameras | Camera-history search may require Premium Advanced and a compatible camera setup. Check Google’s plan and device eligibility information. |
| “All on” still looks wrong | Refresh the Home view and verify individual light states. If the issue persists on a later release, report it through Google Home feedback. |
| Home-tab scrolling remains poor | The 4.1 improvement was not universal or quantified. Reduce Favorites, update the operating system and app, restart the app, and check later release notes. |
| Home Brief still uses the wrong date | Check the app version and briefing date, then report persistent labeling errors in the app. A cached result or later regression is possible. |
What Google Home 4.1 did not change
Version 4.1 did not deliver another major interface redesign. The major visual and organizational changes arrived with version 4.0, which introduced the redesigned Home experience and Gemini-related functionality.
Nor did 4.1 make Google Home Premium universally necessary for Ask Home. Basic search and device-control functions may be available without a subscription, while more advanced functions depend on plan, country, language, account, and compatible-device eligibility.
Google’s release notes are generated with help from Gemini and may be corrected or updated. For unusual contradictions, compare the release notes with Google’s feature-specific Ask Home help page and Gemini for Home availability documentation.

Verdict
Google Home 4.1 was worthwhile for users affected by the Android lighting-state bug, iOS camera-heavy scrolling, or newly expanded Ask Home access. But it was a post-redesign cleanup release, not a transformative update. Since later versions have replaced 4.1, readers looking for new Google Home features should consult Google’s current release notes rather than assume that everything available today belongs to version 4.1.
