Smart garden tools can automate five different jobs: watering several irrigation zones, adjusting schedules with soil-moisture information, controlling a hose-fed area, mowing, and switching outdoor electrical devices. Choose the tool for the job first, then check what it needs to connect and work with your existing setup. GARDENA’s smart system is one example spanning these categories; its product descriptions explain features, not independently measured savings or performance.
1. Smart irrigation controller for existing watering zones
If your garden already has a valve-based irrigation system, a smart controller can bring its watering zones into an app rather than requiring you to replace the entire setup. GARDENA says its smart Irrigation Control Sensor Set can control up to six independent 24 V irrigation valves and replace the control unit of an existing system. The manufacturer says it works with the majority of commercially available 24 V valves, but check the voltage and specifications of your own valves before buying. GARDENA smart Irrigation Control Sensor Set
This type of controller is most relevant when you need separate schedules for multiple areas. Count the zones you actually want to control, then verify that the controller supports your valves and that any required gateway is included or available.
2. Soil-moisture sensor to inform watering
A soil-moisture sensor adds information about conditions in the garden to watering decisions. GARDENA says its sensor can work with watering controls to skip a scheduled watering run when the soil is still moist. That can help avoid watering solely because a timer says it is time; the manufacturer pages do not establish a particular reduction in water use or bills. GARDENA smart Sensor Control Set

- Remote Monitoring and Automation: Receive real-time alerts on your smartphone, allowing you to take action anytime, anywhere, ensuring your plants get the right care. Integrated with smart home systems, these sensors enable automated watering schedules, so you can manage and control your garden's irrigation remotely, saving both time and effort
Check whether the sensor is included with a controller or sold as part of a different set, and confirm how it connects to the watering product you intend to use. A sensor informs a schedule; it does not replace the need to choose appropriate watering settings for your plants and garden.
3. Smart hose-end control for a single area
If you want to automate a hose-fed area without fitting a multi-valve controller, a connected tap or hose-end water control may be a better match. GARDENA lists smart Water Control in its smart-system range. Check the exact model’s gateway, app, and compatibility requirements before choosing it; requirements can vary by product. This is a different use case from controlling several existing irrigation valves: focus on the tap or hose-fed area you want to automate and the connection setup the specific product requires.
4. Robotic mower for scheduled lawn care
A robotic mower can take on routine lawn mowing. GARDENA’s catalogue includes smart SILENO models and describes LONA Intelligence as mapping the garden, with mowing zones and no-mow areas configurable in the app. Those are manufacturer-described features, not evidence of comparative mowing performance. Check the individual mower’s specifications and installation requirements for your lawn before deciding whether it suits your layout. GARDENA smart-system product catalogue

5. Smart outdoor power control for garden devices
A smart outdoor power adapter can switch compatible electrical devices—such as garden lights or fountains—through an app. GARDENA describes this use for its smart Power Adapter. Before using any adapter, verify that its electrical ratings suit the device and that it is rated for the intended outdoor conditions. Those details are model-specific and are not established by the general product description. GARDENA smart system overview

What to check before choosing a connected garden tool
- Start with the task. Decide whether you need to manage several irrigation zones, one hose-fed area, soil moisture, mowing, or outdoor power.
- Confirm irrigation compatibility. For an existing valve-based system, check valve type and voltage; the cited GARDENA controller set is specified for 24 V valves. Also count the independent zones you need.
- Check what the package includes. Gateway inclusion or need varies by product. GARDENA says its smart system requires the app and a sufficient internet connection. System requirements and overview
- Verify smart-home support for the exact product. GARDENA’s system overview lists Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Magenta SmartHome compatibility. Confirm that the particular device and setup you plan to buy support the integration you want.
- Separate features from proven outcomes. Product descriptions can establish what a tool is designed to do; the cited pages do not provide independent measurements of water savings, time saved, accuracy, or comparative performance.
