Its announcement said the line would “rip a devastating slice through the precious Driftless region of SW Wisconsin,” wording that reflects the group’s advocacy position rather than an independently established assessment.

Who organized it
The Coalition Against Maribel 765, Inc. describes itself as a grassroots organization of landowners affected by the proposed project. The group says it is opposing a line developed by Dairyland Power and GridLiance and connected to a broader MISO grid-interconnection plan. Those descriptions come from the coalition and should be understood as the organization’s account of its membership, purpose and the project’s planning context.

Tim Woodhouse, identified by WIZM News as the coalition’s president, said the project could enlarge existing rights-of-way and increase tower height. WIZM quoted him saying: “The current rights-of-way will be doubled in size. The towers, potentially, would be increased in size up to 200 feet. It’s unknown what the health impact to those immediately adjacent would be or their livestock.” The statement conveys his concerns; it does not establish a measured health effect or a final design.
What the proposed MariBell line is
The coalition describes MariBell as a proposed 140-mile, double-circuit transmission line using 765-kV and 161-kV facilities. It says the route would run from Marion, Minnesota, to Bell Center, Wisconsin.

Local reporting has focused on the section crossing the Mississippi River at Genoa and continuing toward Bell Center. The coalition says the proposal could affect farms, property, the Driftless landscape, karst groundwater, wildlife and nearby residents. These are the group’s stated concerns; the available material does not independently establish particular health, environmental, rate or property-value impacts.

The coalition says it filed suit against Dairyland Power and GridLiance in Vernon County Circuit Court. In an August 16, 2026 report, WIZM said the case was expected to come before a Vernon County judge for an October hearing and that state approval was still outstanding. The sources available for this article do not verify that the hearing occurred, identify any ruling or show that a state application was subsequently approved or filed.
