Outline the fence with lights

A few lit sections can define the fence without covering its entire length. Before installing powered decorations, check that both lights and cords are designated for outdoor conditions. Use outdoor GFCI protection—through a GFCI receptacle or an inline GFCI cord set—and test the protection before use. Inspect lights and cords for fraying, cracked sockets, broken ends, or loose connections; do not use damaged items. Make a flight of bats
Arrange weather-resistant bat silhouettes in a rising or swooping pattern across a few panels. Black shapes can read clearly against a light-colored fence; on a dark fence, consider a contrasting material or a lighted area behind them. Choose an attachment method suited to the fence finish and the decoration’s instructions. Build one giant spiderweb
Use webbing or materials such as thick rope or yarn to create a web across one section, then place a larger spider near its center or edge as the focal point. Pose climbing skeletons
Position one or more skeleton decorations so they appear to climb over a rail or peer around a post. Use their intended attachment points and check that they cannot fall into a path. If a decoration is broad, light, or exposed to wind, inspect it after weather changes; there is no universal wind rating that applies to every fence decoration.
Keep it cheerful with pumpkins
Pumpkin-shaped lights or a few orange accents make a friendlier fall display. To keep the scene cohesive, repeat a couple of colors or shapes—for example, orange and purple lights with bats, or warm pumpkin accents around one focal decoration—instead of adding a different theme to every panel.

Install decorations without creating hazards
Plan the route for cords and visitors before hanging anything, especially if people will see the display after dark. The NFPA advises reducing trip hazards from extension cords. South Carolina fire-safety guidance likewise recommends removing obstacles from lawns, steps, and porches when expecting trick-or-treaters.
