Friends of the Gros Ventre Fire Station has committed to raising and donating at least $8 million toward a proposed fire and EMS station in Teton County, Wyoming. That fundraising commitment is not evidence that the money has been raised: county materials separately estimate construction alone at $8 million to $10 million. The planned Station 8 would be at 947 Sandcherry Way in the North Gros Ventre area.
What the fundraising commitment covers—and what the cost estimate means
Teton County’s June 2026 staff report describes a commitment by Friends of the Gros Ventre Fire Station to raise and donate $8 million or more for planning, design, permitting, and construction. The county’s March and June reports estimate facility construction at $8 million to $10 million. Those are different figures: one is a nonprofit fundraising commitment, and the other is an estimated project cost. The reports do not establish how much has actually been raised or whether the commitment will cover the final cost.

The county also lists projected startup and ongoing expenses separately. These figures have different scopes and should not be added to the construction estimate as though they were part of the same cost category.

These are county estimates, not final costs. The $8 million-plus commitment should not be described as $10 million already raised, and the construction estimate should not be treated as a final contract price.

Where the proposed station fits into the project
The proposal is for Station 8 at 947 Sandcherry Way in North Gros Ventre. Under the arrangement described in the county’s June 2026 report, Friends of the Gros Ventre Fire Station would raise and donate funds, Teton County would own the station, and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS would operate it. Buckrail reported that the county approved a nonbinding memorandum of understanding in June 2026; that agreement set out a proposed framework, not a completed construction deal.
Teton County’s March 2026 report says its Standards of Cover project identified North Gros Ventre as an area that could benefit from additional services. Buckrail also reported community concerns about emergency-response waits and home-insurance costs as part of the local rationale. Those are reported concerns, not measured outcomes established by the project figures.

What has been approved, and what remains planned
On September 15, 2026, Teton County approved an initial $315,100 contract with Wember Inc. for owner’s representative services, according to the September 23 report by Daily Dispatch. The station was reported as approximately 9,000 square feet. Hiring an owner’s representative is a project-management milestone; it is not a construction award and does not establish that construction has begun.
The reported schedule remains an expectation: construction could begin as early as 2027, with operations anticipated in 2029. Those dates are plans, not guarantees. The September contract approval indicates that project work is moving forward, but the available reports do not establish a construction start date or completed facility.

What the fundraising group says comes next
Jim Ramo, a director of Friends of the Gros Ventre Fire Station, told Buckrail: “This is the first step; the second step is to raise the money.” The remark underscores the distinction between advancing the county agreement and securing the funds needed for the proposed project.
