However, the agency’s project page does not document traffic delays, road closures, detours, or commuter complaints. The available information confirms active construction, not that it is causing commuter headaches.
What is FORTAG?
FORTAG is a proposed paved regional trail intended for people walking and biking. TAMC describes a route of about 28 miles and 12 feet wide, with open-space buffers on both sides and connections to existing and planned bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. It is planned to connect Seaside, Marina, Del Rey Oaks, Monterey, and unincorporated communities with California State University Monterey Bay, the Fort Ord National Monument, and the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail. TAMC’s project page describes the route and its development status.

Where is FORTAG construction underway?
TAMC reports three segments in development. The Canyon Del Rey segment is under construction, with work expected to continue through fall 2026. The California Avenue and Jerry Smith Trailhead segments are in design. These are project-status updates; they do not indicate what traffic restrictions, if any, are in effect at a particular time.

Not by the official project information reviewed. The project page does not list current lane closures, road restrictions, detour routes, delay estimates, traffic counts, or accounts from affected commuters. That means the evidence available here cannot establish whether Canyon Del Rey construction is delaying a particular commute or quantify any impact.
#1 Best Overall
- Highly Visible: The bright orange safety color and 360 degree reflective collars make the parallel parking cones visible from a long distance during day or night
- Easy to Store: This set of collapsible traffic cones can be easily folded to a height of 1.7 inches, which is very easy to store, and there is a storage bag inside, so you can stack them when you don't need to use them, which is convenient for you to carry
- Stable: The base of cones is 11.4" X 11.4" and the weight of each road cone is 1.45 lbs, meaning that they'll stay put exactly where they need to be. Whether you're trying to control driveway traffic or keep footfall in order at a festive event
- Widely Use: These road cones can collapse up to 28 inches tall, and each cone with 2 reflective collars means people are unlikely to miss them, suitable for parking lots, driving Training, building construction, warning areas
- Plastic Base: The cone part of our traffic cone is made of Oxford cloth, the base is made of plastic, and the base size is 11.4 inches X 11.4 inches. NOTE: the base is made of plastic, please be careful not to be crushed by cars when using it
To assess a reported disruption, useful details would include the affected road and direction, date and time, the specific restriction or detour, and the observed delay. A dated local traffic notice or an attributable report from a road user could provide that evidence; the project status alone cannot.
Why work-zone traffic management matters
As general context—not a finding about FORTAG—the Indiana Department of Transportation says work timing and other strategies can help prevent queues, and defines a queue as vehicles slowed or stopped by construction or a road hazard. Speed differences between approaching traffic and a queue can put motorists and workers at risk, and a backup can be the site of secondary crashes. INDOT’s traffic-safety information discusses queue awareness. This guidance explains why work-zone traffic management matters, but it does not show that a queue or delay has occurred at the Canyon Del Rey project.

- 5.5 lbs Heavy Duty Base: These 28-inch traffic cones meet US MTUCD standards and won't be blown over or moved easily, meaning they stay where you need them
- Flexible PVC: The road parking cones is made of sturdy PVC material, can withstand vehicle impacts, bend under pressure, and rebound to their original shape without cracking
- High Intensity Reflective Strips: Each large traffic cone has 1 4-inch and 1 6-inch reflective collar, ensuring 360° visibility day and night even in low-light or rainy conditions, enhancing the safety of drivers and workers
- Multiple Uses: Can be used for highway maintenance, road works and construction, marking road hazards, parking lots, or crowd control
- Easily Stored for Transport: The traffic cones are easy to stack together and take up very little space in your car or garage, making storage and transportation very easy
What TAMC says the trail is intended to do
TAMC says FORTAG is intended to provide a safe connection between residential areas, schools, workplaces, regional parks, and city services. The agency also lists community health and economic benefits. These are the sponsor’s stated aims and anticipated benefits, not measured outcomes established by the project information.
How the project is funded
TAMC lists the following funding allocations and grants. These figures describe funding sources; they are not total construction costs and do not measure commuter impacts.
