Circles of Hair’s Subiaco salon underwent a major refurbishment in 2021, transforming its reported 260-square-metre premises with vivid colour, custom furniture and a more client-focused layout. The work took just over four weeks, and owner Sharlene Lee said the salon stayed open during construction.
What changed in the Subiaco salon renovation?
PerthNow’s December 9, 2021 feature described an extensive makeover of Circles of Hair’s Subiaco premises. Lee said she wanted to create a Los Angeles-inspired feel and give clients a better experience. “I wanted to give back to the clients that have supported me well over 25 years, and give them a much better experience when they walk in,” she said.
The design paired saturated colours with the existing building’s concrete, steel and glass. PerthNow described burgundy and fire-engine red, high-gloss baby pink and iridescent cobalt blue, with much of the furniture custom-built. Reported details included terrazzo bench seats, framed mirrors and glass tables with angular legs.
How long did the work take, and did the salon close?
The refurbishment took just over four weeks. Lee described coordinating construction around appointments as a juggling act, and the salon reportedly remained open throughout the work so clients would not miss their bookings.

Why was the mural removed?
The former Scarlett girl mural was painted over during the renovation. Lee said, “When they started painting over the mural, I cried,” describing it as part of her and the brand. She also said the business needed to move with the times as it grew. According to PerthNow, the bright red coffee machine was the only feature of the former salon that remained.
How Lee described the finished look
Lee said the refreshed salon kept the energy of the old space while giving it a distinct new aesthetic: “The newly renovated salon still has the vivacity of the old salon but a refreshed look and it elevates the space with a truly unique aesthetic that has not been seen in Perth,” Mrs Lee said.

PerthNow’s article also reported that Circles of Hair had more than 34,000 Instagram followers at the time. That is a figure from its December 2021 report, not a current audience count. The feature documents the renovation as it was reported then; it does not establish the salon’s present operating status or current booking details.
