With the popular front-door-aligned BTB method, the wealth area is commonly mapped to the far-left side of the home; a compass-based approach associates wealth with the southeast. These are symbolic traditions, not guarantees of wealth or health. Choose a healthy plant, place it where it suits the room, and keep entrances and walkways clear.
First, choose a Feng Shui approach
There is no single wealth corner that applies to every Feng Shui method. Homes & Gardens describes two commonly discussed approaches: BTB Feng Shui, which aligns the Bagua with the front door, and compass-based Feng Shui, which associates wealth with the southeast. The American Feng Shui Institute cautions that a universal left- or right-hand “money corner” is not classical Feng Shui; its 2006 introductory document says homes should be assessed individually.

The front-door and compass wealth locations may not coincide. If you are unsure which school you follow, the front-door-aligned method is a simple, popular convention—but treat it as that, rather than a universal classical rule.
Choose a location to match your intention
For prosperity or abundance
If you use BTB Feng Shui, map the wealth area from the front door and place a healthy plant there. If you follow the compass method, the cited guidance associates wealth with the southeast. Practitioner advice treats the plant as a symbol of flourishing or growth, not a mechanism that ensures financial results. Money tree, jade plant, bamboo, and Chinese money plant are examples mentioned in practitioner and editorial guidance; they are not a definitive ranking.

For family, growth, or fresh starts
The east or family area is a suggested location in some guidance for family connection, growth, or new beginnings. A flowering plant, orchid, or spider plant may be used as a symbolic choice, provided the spot offers suitable growing conditions.
For welcome and opportunity
A plant near the front entrance is commonly suggested to symbolize welcome and new opportunities. Keep it out of the doorway and away from the main walking route. A placement that obstructs daily movement works against the practical purpose of an entryway, whatever its symbolic meaning.

For a bedroom
Bedroom advice varies. One guide recommends keeping the number of plants small and positioning them away from the bed; another describes differing views and suggests small, soft-leaved plants as a middle path. There is no universal prohibition in the cited guidance. Let the room’s function, available light, and your comfort determine whether a plant belongs there.

- Choose a plant that can thrive in the light and conditions of the intended spot.
- Keep foliage clean and the plant healthy; practitioner guidance cautions against wilting plants.
- Avoid crowding plants together, particularly in calm or social rooms.
- Keep doors, walkways, and other routes unobstructed.
- In rooms intended to feel calm or welcoming, KJ Feng Shui advises avoiding spiky plants; treat this as that practitioner source’s recommendation, not a universal rule.
Feng Shui plant placement is a traditional symbolic practice. The cited sources do not establish that putting a plant in a particular zone causes wealth, health, or other measurable outcomes. Use the placement to express an intention and improve the feel of the room, while choosing plants for practical suitability.
