Fasta Pasta cooks pasta in the microwave and strains it with its lid. Here’s what the manufacturer says about capacity and timing, how to use it safely, and what the limited performance evidence can—and cannot—tell you.

Fasta Pasta is a microwave cooker that combines a pasta container, lid and strainer: add pasta and water, microwave with the lid off, then use the lid to drain. The manufacturer says the standard cooker holds 1.2 L and takes about 10–15 minutes, depending on noodle type. Those figures are product guidance, not independent performance-test results, and the cooker’s practical fit depends on your microwave and the amount you want to cook.

What the Fasta Pasta cooker does

The Fasta Pasta Original Microwave Pasta Cooker is designed to cook pasta in the microwave and strain it in the same container. The brand’s basic sequence is add pasta, add water, microwave and strain. Its standard product is described for up to four servings; the brand also lists a separate family-size model described as cooking up to eight servings. Check the exact model and package rather than assuming the larger serving count applies to the standard cooker.

The manufacturer’s FAQ states a 1.2 L capacity for the standard cooker. Target’s listing describes 28 ounces, and the available information does not establish whether the figures refer to different versions or measurements. Verify the capacity on the model you are considering instead of treating those figures as interchangeable.

  3. Microwave on high with the lid off, following the enclosed chart for the pasta type and serving size.
  4. When cooking is complete, put the lid on to lift and strain the cooker. Handle it carefully: the instructions warn, “WARNING: Contents in cooker are HOT.”

The instruction sheet also states: “WARNING: Cooking with lid will cause boil over.” Keep the lid off during cooking; it is used for draining, not as a cooking cover.

Cooking time and texture: what is established

Fasta Pasta says the standard cooker takes about 10–15 minutes for pasta, depending on noodle type. That is a manufacturer estimate; the actual time depends on the pasta and microwave. The enclosed chart is the model-specific guide to use for time and serving size.

The brand promotes the cooker as helping prevent boil-overs and sticking and as producing al dente pasta. Those are product claims, not independently verified results. Target’s listing has a small, changing set of customer ratings and mixed individual reports: one customer describes convenience and easy cleanup, while a recent negative review describes difficulty getting the desired texture after repeated attempts. These anecdotes do not establish how consistently the cooker performs. There is no independent comparative test in the available evidence.

Will it fit your microwave, and how much can it cook?

The instructions provide a maximum of four servings for the standard cooker, while the brand’s separate family-size version is described for up to eight. The available manufacturer information does not provide the cooker’s external dimensions, so it cannot establish whether the standard unit fits a particular compact or dorm microwave. Measure the microwave’s usable interior and turntable, then compare them with the dimensions on the product or package before buying.

For pasta shapes, a Target customer asked about penne, rotini and mafalda. A retailer response says the instructions list multiple pasta types, including fresh and frozen ravioli and tortellini. That response is not a controlled test or a guarantee for every shape; consult the chart supplied with your cooker for a listed pasta and its directions.

Cleaning and care

The manufacturer says both the pasta cooker and its ramen cooker are microwave-safe, BPA-free and dishwasher-safe. These are manufacturer statements; follow the care directions supplied with the specific model you buy.

Fasta Pasta versus Nordic Ware

Nordic Ware’s Microwave Pasta Cooker is a relevant alternative, but the available specifications do not support a head-to-head performance verdict. Compare the practical details that affect your kitchen:

What to compare Fasta Pasta Nordic Ware
Stated capacity or serving range Manufacturer FAQ: 1.2 L; supplied instructions: up to four servings. Target listing: 28 ounces; relationship between figures is not established. Official page: one to four portions.
Cooking guidance Instructions use water level guides and a chart by pasta type and serving size; manufacturer estimates about 10–15 minutes, depending on noodle type. Official page gives approximate spaghetti times and says timing varies with microwave wattage and pasta type.
Lid and straining Supplied instructions describe using the lid to strain after cooking. Check the official product page and package for the included components.
Size and microwave fit External dimensions not stated in the available manufacturer information. Confirm current product dimensions on the official page before purchase.
Care guidance Manufacturer says dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe. Check Nordic Ware’s official care instructions for the specific product.

For either cooker, check the model’s dimensions against your microwave, its serving limit, the clarity of its pasta-specific water and time directions, and how it drains hot water. Do not infer one cooker is faster or produces better-textured pasta from these specifications alone.

Who should consider it?

  • Potentially useful: someone who wants a microwave-based way to cook and strain a modest quantity of pasta in one container, and whose microwave can accommodate the unit.
  • Check carefully first: anyone cooking for more than four with the standard model, using a very small microwave, or particular about a specific pasta texture. Confirm the model, dimensions, serving limit and chart before relying on it.
  • Evidence caveat: manufacturer instructions and claims explain intended use, but the limited customer feedback and absence of independent comparative testing do not demonstrate consistent texture or performance.
