The eufyCam S4 is now listed for sale in the US at $349.99 for the standalone camera. It combines a fixed 4K bullet camera with a separate pan-tilt-zoom tracking system, aiming to keep a wide view of a driveway, entrance or yard while following movement in closer detail.
Its detachable 5.5W solar panel is designed to reduce routine charging, but the camera is not independent of sunlight. Eufy’s claim that one hour of direct sunlight can provide approximately a day of power is an estimate, not a guarantee for every installation. Continuous 24/7 recording also requires direct power.
What is the eufyCam S4?
The eufyCam S4 is a wireless outdoor security camera built around three lenses:
- 4K fixed bullet lens: a persistent 130-degree diagonal view for entrances, driveways and wider outdoor areas.
- Dual 2K PTZ lenses: a pan-tilt-zoom system with 360-degree coverage, 70-degree tilt and up to 8× hybrid zoom.
The fixed camera can detect a person, vehicle or pet while the PTZ module tracks that subject. This is Eufy’s “bullet-to-PTZ” approach: the wide view continues monitoring the scene while the moving camera follows activity.

It is more accurate to call the S4 a three-lens camera than a two-lens camera. “Two cameras in one” describes the overall design, but the PTZ section itself contains two 2K lenses.
Eufy describes the system as capable of auto-framing. It can zoom in on one subject or zoom out when multiple people enter the scene. That can make it useful for a large driveway, an L-shaped yard or a construction property where movement may occur outside one narrow camera angle.

Why combine a fixed bullet camera with PTZ tracking?
A conventional fixed camera gives you a dependable view, but it cannot follow someone who leaves its frame. A conventional PTZ camera can pan and zoom, but when it turns toward a subject it may stop watching the area where it started.
The S4 attempts to address that compromise. Its fixed bullet lens maintains the broad scene, while the PTZ unit follows detected movement. In some locations, that could reduce the need for two separately mounted cameras.

It does not eliminate blind spots. A single camera still has areas behind the unit, obstructions, range limitations and possible tracking failures. A multi-camera installation may remain the better choice for a large site or for monitoring several areas simultaneously.

The 164-foot figure is a manufacturer-rated tracking and auto-zoom capability. It should not be interpreted as a promise that faces or number plates will be identifiable at that distance. Detection range, tracking range, zoom range and identification distance are different things.

How effective is the solar panel?
The S4 has a detachable 5.5W solar panel. It can be attached to the camera or installed separately, allowing the camera to face the area that needs monitoring while the panel is positioned for better sunlight.
Eufy says that one hour of direct sunlight can provide approximately 24 hours of operating power. That is a useful benchmark, but actual performance depends on:
- shade from buildings, roof overhangs or trees;
- local latitude and seasonal daylight;
- cloud and weather conditions;
- the number of detected events;
- night-time spotlight use;
- wireless conditions and recording workload.
A shaded camera position can work if the separate panel receives sufficient direct sunlight. Conversely, a camera in a busy area may use power faster than a quiet residential entrance. Battery levels should be checked after installation, particularly through winter or extended periods of overcast weather.
The solar system is intended to reduce or eliminate routine manual charging. It should not be treated as a guarantee of maintenance-free operation in every climate.
Does the S4 need HomeBase?
No. The standalone S4 can operate over Wi-Fi without a HomeBase. It includes on-device human, vehicle and pet detection and 32GB of built-in storage. A microSD card can expand storage to 256GB, although the card is not included.
A HomeBase S380 is useful if you want:
- BionicMind AI features, including familiar-person and stranger recognition;
- centralised storage;
- HomeBase storage expansion of up to 16TB, according to Eufy;
- additional system-level features for a wider Eufy installation.
Existing HomeBase S380 units must be updated to version V3.7.2.8 or later for features such as 24/7 recording and Snapshot functionality, and the Eufy app must also be current. The S4 should not be assumed to work with every Eufy hub.

Local storage means a mandatory cloud subscription is not required for basic operation. It does not mean the camera has no network exposure: account security, app access and firmware updates still matter.
Can it record continuously?
The S4 supports 24/7 recording when connected to direct power. Solar-only or battery operation is primarily intended for event-based monitoring.
Eufy specifies a cable kit and a user-supplied 5V/2A or higher adapter for continuous recording. That makes the S4 less “wire-free” for buyers who need an uninterrupted recording history.
For a construction site, commercial property or large home where every second matters, a wired PoE/NVR system may be more dependable. PoE also avoids the uncertainty of battery levels and solar production, although installation is more involved.
Detection, audio and deterrence
The camera supports human, vehicle and pet alerts, customisable detection zones and schedules. Radar and PIR sensing can help distinguish relevant movement from some background activity, but no consumer camera eliminates false alerts.
Trees, animals, headlights, reflections, rain and moving shadows can still trigger detections. Busy streets and high-traffic driveways may also produce notification fatigue and faster battery or storage consumption. Detection zones and schedules are usually more useful than simply increasing sensitivity.

Installation and weather resistance
Eufy lists the S4 as IP65 weather-resistant and supports mounting on a vertical or horizontal surface. IP65 should not be interpreted as submersion protection or as proof that the unit is indestructible.

- Wi-Fi signal strength at the camera position;
- the camera’s height and view of faces or vehicles;
- the panel’s access to direct sunlight;
- where cables will run if direct power is required;
- that water cannot pool around connectors or run directly into cable penetrations.
Seal wall penetrations properly and avoid placing the camera where nearby structures or vegetation obstruct the PTZ movement.
Price and availability
On Eufy’s US storefront, the standalone eufyCam S4 was listed at $349.99 on August 18, 2026. An S4 with HomeBase S380 was listed at $549.98. These are storefront prices observed on that date, not necessarily permanent prices or launch pricing.
Eufy also listed multi-camera options at the time:
- two-camera kit: $799.99;
- four-camera kit: $1,399.99;
- four-camera kit with 1TB drive: $1,479.99.

- wide or L-shaped gardens;
- large outdoor areas where a fixed lens may miss movement;
- buyers who want local storage without making HomeBase mandatory;
- properties where a separate solar panel can be placed in a sunnier position.
The premium is easiest to justify when the bullet-plus-PTZ combination can genuinely replace a second camera position.
Who should skip it?
- No reliable Wi-Fi: The S4 is not a cellular camera.
- Very limited sunlight: A shaded or frequently overcast site may still need regular charging.
- Guaranteed 24/7 recording: Continuous recording requires direct power.
- Several simultaneous views: One camera cannot provide the redundancy of multiple fixed cameras.
- Lowest-cost coverage: The standalone price is high for one wireless camera.
- Maximum reliability: A wired PoE/NVR installation is generally a stronger fit for continuous surveillance.
Alternatives to consider
eufyCam S330
The S330 is a conventional fixed 4K solar camera designed for HomeBase-oriented coverage. It is the simpler choice if you want a stable view rather than active PTZ tracking. Compare Eufy’s S330 and S340.
SoloCam S340
The SoloCam S340 is a standalone dual-lens PTZ camera with 3K wide and 2K telephoto lenses, 360-degree pan/tilt coverage and a detachable solar panel. It may suit buyers seeking a lower-cost hub-free PTZ camera, but it does not have the S4’s dedicated fixed 4K bullet view.
eufyCam S3 Pro
The S3 Pro is a fixed 4K solar camera focused on full-colour low-light performance and long battery operation. It is better suited to buyers who prioritise conventional fixed coverage and night image quality over bullet-to-PTZ tracking. View the eufyCam S3 Pro range.
4G LTE Cam S330
For a barn, cabin, rural property or construction site without dependable Wi-Fi, Eufy’s 4G LTE Cam S330 is more relevant. It introduces carrier coverage, data usage and plan costs, so it is not a direct like-for-like replacement for the S4.
Wired PoE/NVR systems
A PoE/NVR system is the stronger option for 24/7 recording, several simultaneous views, stable connectivity and large properties. The trade-off is more difficult installation and the need for wired power and network infrastructure. Eufy’s PoE product pages are available for comparison at t8e00121 and e8e00122.
Privacy considerations
Position the camera so it records the area you need without unnecessarily monitoring neighbouring homes, gardens or public spaces. Check local rules concerning audio recording and surveillance, particularly where the camera may capture other people’s conversations or property.
Local recording can reduce dependence on cloud storage, but it does not remove the need for a strong account password, current firmware and sensible access controls.

At $349.99 in the US on August 18, 2026, it is best for buyers who specifically need wide coverage plus tracking—not for anyone seeking guaranteed wire-free 24/7 recording or the simplest low-cost camera.
