At around $90, the Ember Mug 2 is worth considering if you drink coffee or tea slowly and want active temperature control. It is a much less convincing purchase if you simply need insulation, dishwasher convenience, long cordless runtime, or a leakproof travel mug.

What the $89.99 Ember deal included
The original deal coverage identified a 14-ounce Ember Mug 2 in white, reportedly available through Amazon for $89.99 rather than $149.95. Walmart was also mentioned as carrying discounted colors. The final price could vary by color, seller, shipping, coupons, membership requirements, and inventory.

The offer was reported on June 26, 2025. Deal coverage described $89.99 as one of the lowest widely available prices tracked for the mug, excluding certain Costco member offers and in-store promotions. It was not proof of the lowest price ever; clearance, refurbished, open-box, and retailer-specific deals may have been cheaper. The historical pricing details come from the original deal report.

As of the latest indexed first-party information available for this article, Ember’s store showed a 10-ounce Ember Mug 2 at $89.99. That listing does not confirm that the historical 14-ounce offer is still available. Check the live product page for the exact capacity, color, seller, shipping charge, and return terms before buying.
Best Buy listings also showed earlier 2026 promotional prices of $129.95 for the 10-ounce model and $99.99 for the 14-ounce model, with those offers marked as ending July 26, 2026. Treat those prices as historical unless the retailer page shows otherwise.

What the Ember Mug 2 actually does
Unlike a conventional insulated mug, the Ember Mug 2 actively heats the beverage to maintain a selected drinking temperature. Through Ember’s iOS and Android app, you can choose a target between approximately 120°F and 145°F, save drink presets, customize the smart LED, receive temperature notifications, and use features such as tea-steeping timers.

The mug uses a charging coaster for continuous temperature maintenance. It also has a built-in rechargeable battery, so you can use it away from the coaster for a limited period. Ember lists temperature accuracy of approximately ±0.5°F; that is the manufacturer’s specification, not an independent test result.
The practical distinction is important: an insulated mug slows cooling, while the Ember is designed to keep the drink near a chosen temperature. That makes it most useful for people who routinely start coffee or tea, get distracted, and return to it later.

Battery life is limited away from the coaster
This is not an all-day cordless mug. Ember rates the battery for up to approximately:
- 90 minutes for the 10-ounce model.
- 80 minutes for the 14-ounce model.
Those are stated maximum or nominal figures, not guarantees for every drink. Runtime can change with the target temperature, starting beverage temperature, room temperature, beverage volume, and whether a compatible lid is used. On a desk with the mug resting on its powered coaster, the experience is different: it can maintain the target temperature while plugged into the coaster.

For carrying the mug between meetings, around a job site, or through a long commute, the battery limitation matters much more.
10 ounces or 14 ounces?

Choose the 14-ounce model if capacity is the main reason the historical deal appeals to you. A 14-ounce mug may still feel smaller than a café “large” once milk, foam, or room at the top is taken into account.
Choose the 10-ounce model if you usually drink tea, espresso-based beverages, or smaller coffees. Do not assume that an $89.99 10-ounce listing is the same deal as the historical $89.99 14-ounce offer.

Cleaning and durability caveats
The Mug 2 has a stainless-steel body with a ceramic-coated interior and an IPX7 water-resistance rating. IPX7 does not make it dishwasher-safe. Ember’s product information says to hand wash the mug because dishwasher heat may damage its internal electronics over time.

Hand washing also applies to the charging setup: the coaster, cable, and power components should not be treated as washable parts. The IPX7 rating should not be interpreted as an invitation to casually submerge the complete charging system or use the mug like ordinary dishwasher-safe drinkware.
Battery longevity is another ownership consideration. Some indexed customer feedback describes battery degradation, charging problems, and difficulty with replacement. These are anecdotal user reports, not a quantified failure rate, but they are relevant because the sealed rechargeable battery is central to the product’s long-term value.

The deal makes the most sense for a slow coffee or tea drinker who:
- Leaves drinks unfinished while working.
- Usually drinks near a desk or power outlet.
- Values a stable, selected temperature more than maximum portability.
- Is comfortable pairing a Bluetooth accessory and using an app.
- Accepts hand washing and the possibility of eventual battery wear.
At approximately $90, the active heating system is easier to justify than at the $149.95 list price. The discount is not, by itself, a reason to buy a product that does not fit your routine.

Who should skip it?
Skip the Mug 2 if you need a dishwasher-safe mug, several hours of cordless use, or a leakproof travel container. It is also a poor fit if you dislike phone-dependent accessories, frequently drop drinkware, or already solve the problem with a conventional insulated mug.
The standard Mug 2 should not be treated as a leakproof travel mug. A lid is an accessory unless the particular retailer bundle says otherwise, and the standard open-top design is a different category from Ember’s Travel Mug 2.
How it compares with cheaper options
Vacuum-insulated mug
A conventional vacuum-insulated mug is simpler and generally less expensive. Depending on the model, it may also be dishwasher-friendly. It can keep a drink hot for a long time, but it cannot actively maintain a precise temperature. Choose it if slowing heat loss is enough.
Non-smart mug warmer
A basic mug warmer is a better fit for a fixed desk if you already own a favorite mug. It normally lacks the Ember’s built-in battery, app presets, and temperature-control system, but it can solve the same desk-based problem at lower complexity.
Heated travel mug
A heated travel mug is designed around a lid, portability, and spill control. It may be heavier or more expensive, but it is the better category for commuting. Ember’s Travel Mug 2 is not a direct substitute for the approximately $90 Mug 2 deal.
Bottom line on the Ember Mug 2 deal
Buy the 14-ounce Ember Mug 2 if you can still find the exact model near $90 and you specifically want active temperature control. That historical $89.99 price was a strong widely available deal compared with the reported $149.95 list price, but it was not established as the all-time low and was originally reported in 2025.
Before checkout, confirm the capacity and color. The currently indexed Ember price of $89.99 refers to a 10-ounce variant, not proof of a live 14-ounce discount. Also check whether the listing is new, who sells and fulfills it, shipping costs, warranty coverage, and the return policy.
