What Ecopath means by cement-free concrete
Ecopath Innovations, a Bengaluru-based construction-material and infrastructure company, describes Eco-Concrete as geopolymer concrete made without cement. Its technology description identifies GGBS—ground granulated blast-furnace slag—as an input and refers to proprietary binders. A NITI Aayog feature describes the reactive industrial byproducts in the approach as supplying silica, alumina and calcium. Ecopath has not published the complete formula in the reviewed materials. “Steel industry waste” can refer to different materials, so the terms matter. GGBS is the input Ecopath names for Eco-Concrete. The company’s technology page separately discusses steel slag and fly ash; that discussion does not establish that every Ecopath product contains steelmaking slag, or that those other byproducts are ingredients in every product. What products and applications does Ecopath list?
The company lists customizable pavers, kerbstones, ready-mix concrete, bricks and blocks. It describes applications in roads, driveways, sidewalks, landscaping and other external built environments. Its services include road design and construction, soil stabilization, geocell reinforcement, maintenance and precast solutions. Product dimensions, availability and suitability depend on project requirements; the public descriptions do not establish a universal specification for every use. The available percentage claims are not directly comparable: they come from different sources, and the reviewed materials do not provide compatible calculation methods or system boundaries. The NITI Aayog feature also reports production of 50,000 bricks and blocks, 1.5 lakh pavers and 10,000 kerbs per day, across seven factories in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Pune. How the company’s project example should be read
In its account of an Army Public School project, Ecopath says it substituted GGBS for conventional cement and used FGC bars in place of steel reinforcement. The company also says the approach eliminated the curing period. This is a company project description, not an independently documented comparative trial; it does not establish that the same materials, reinforcement choice or curing result applies to other projects. Ecopath’s technology page gives annual steel-slag availability of 20–25 million tonnes and says 30% is utilized. It also gives fly-ash generation of more than 180 million tonnes annually, about 70% utilization and 54 million tonnes unused. These are company-stated figures, not independently verified national statistics; the fly-ash figures are not specific to Ecopath’s feedstock. What to check before specifying it for a project
“Cement-free” describes the stated binder approach, but does not by itself establish strength, durability, code acceptance or environmental performance for a given application. The reviewed public materials do not provide product-specific Indian Standard certification documents, independent test reports or an independently verified lifecycle assessment. A NITI Aayog feature describes slow or missing certification for cement-eliminating alternatives as a general adoption barrier, not as a finding that Ecopath’s products fail a named standard.
The feature quotes: “Currently, codes, tender specifications, and pricing regulations in manufacturing assume the usage of cement.” This is a statement in a government-published feature presenting a submitted story; the feature expressly says submissions are shown as-is and do not constitute NITI Aayog validation or endorsement. - Application and grade: Is the proposed product suitable for the intended structural or paving role and the project’s exposure conditions?
- Testing and acceptance: What independently documented strength and durability results are available, and what code, tender or authority acceptance applies?
- Environmental accounting: What lifecycle boundary and emissions methodology underlie any comparison with conventional concrete?
- Construction requirements: What curing and water requirements apply to the specified product and installation?
- Project economics: What is the delivered cost for the project, and how do supply, installation and maintenance assumptions compare?
The reviewed sources do not provide enough independent, like-for-like evidence to rank Ecopath’s materials against conventional concrete or other alternatives on those measures. Product selection therefore needs project-specific documentation rather than a headline emissions percentage alone.
