EcoFlow and Homey by LG announced a partnership at CES on January 6, 2026, to connect EcoFlow home-energy systems with Homey’s energy-monitoring and automation platform. The practical promise is shared household energy data—not one app that replaces every control panel, nor confirmed support for every EcoFlow product. The clearest existing EcoFlow integration is for PowerOcean, and the new Energy Dongle workflow depends on a compatible P1 smart meter. Homey’s US product page says the dongle is unavailable in the United States, so location and meter type matter before you plan around it.

What EcoFlow and Homey announced

At CES 2026, EcoFlow and Homey by LG announced a collaboration linking EcoFlow’s Smart Home Energy Management System with Homey Energy and the Homey Energy Dongle. The stated goal is to let households monitor energy and coordinate devices across systems. The announcement was made on January 6, 2026, but an announcement is not proof that every planned feature is available for every model or country. EcoFlow and Homey’s CES announcement also described an Ecosystem Alliance involving more than 15 smart-home and appliance brands; that strategic initiative should not be read as confirmation that each brand is already fully integrated.

Homey is a cross-brand smart-home platform that became part of LG Electronics; it is distinct from the LG ThinQ app. Homey provides device integrations, Homey Flow and Advanced Flow automations, and Homey Energy. EcoFlow supplies the energy-system side: solar, storage, inverters, and related PowerOcean equipment. Homey’s platform overview describes support for a broad device ecosystem, but listings can include official and community-built apps with different levels of support.

How the shared energy data is meant to work

The central idea is for a compatible smart meter to feed household electricity readings into Homey, with that information also available to EcoFlow’s system. Homey can then use energy conditions in automations, while EcoFlow can use household readings when managing its energy equipment. Homey describes the Energy Dongle as a way to connect smart-meter data to both platforms. Homey’s collaboration announcement discusses the shared-data approach.

Data path: Compatible smart meter with P1 port → Homey Energy Dongle → Homey Energy and EcoFlow app.

Homey Energy can show household consumption, grid import and export, and solar generation where compatible equipment supplies that information. Depending on the devices and setup, it can also display historical or real-time readings and use energy conditions as Flow triggers. These readings are not all the same thing: watts describe power at a moment; kilowatt-hours describe energy over time. Grid import is electricity drawn from the utility, while household consumption can include electricity supplied directly by solar or a battery. Device-level figures may be estimates or readings exposed by a compatible device, not separate measurements from every appliance.

Seeing a value in Homey does not by itself mean Homey can change a battery’s charge schedule, export settings, or backup reserve. Those controls depend on the exact device, available integration actions, and EcoFlow’s own app and services. The collaboration is best understood as shared data and coordinated automation, not proof of universal direct control.

Which EcoFlow products are supported?

The established official Homey EcoFlow app is centered on the PowerOcean home-energy line. Homey’s earlier announcement names PowerOcean components and related equipment including the inverter, battery, PowerGlow, PowerHeat, PowerPulse, and solar panels. It also describes Flow examples such as notifying users when energy prices fall or starting an appliance when solar output passes a threshold. Those are advertised integration scenarios, not independently verified results for every installation. See Homey’s earlier EcoFlow integration announcement and the official Homey app listing.

Do not assume that an EcoFlow DELTA or RIVER portable power station, PowerStream, Smart Home Panel, or another EcoFlow family is supported just because the partnership is described broadly. The available official integration history specifically centers on PowerOcean; Homey community discussion has also cited EcoFlow API limitations as a constraint on wider support. Check the current official app listing for the exact model before buying Homey hardware or planning an automation. Homey community discussion of requested EcoFlow functionality is not a substitute for official compatibility confirmation.

The dongle is not a universal meter reader. It needs a compatible smart meter with a P1 port, plus a 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi connection; Homey’s setup documentation also lists Bluetooth Low Energy. Analog meters are unsupported. Some meters provide power through P1, while others require external USB-C power. Homey says DSMR5 or ESMR5 meters generally provide sufficient power, while DSMR4 and DSMR2 meters may need external power. See the Energy Dongle connection guide and product page.

For US households, the dongle is a major limitation

Homey’s US product page says the Energy Dongle is unavailable in the United States and lists European shipping countries. The P1 interface is primarily associated with European smart-meter systems, rather than typical US residential meters. A US homeowner should not assume that a smart meter has a compatible P1 port or that the dongle can be purchased locally. The existing PowerOcean integration may still be relevant if the exact system and app are supported, but the specific Energy Dongle workflow is not generally available there based on Homey’s current US page.

What you could automate—and what to check first

Homey Flow can connect energy conditions to compatible smart-home devices. The following are practical patterns, not guarantees that every EcoFlow model, tariff, or accessory exposes the required controls:

  • Solar surplus: send a notification when generation exceeds a chosen threshold, or start a compatible flexible load if the right control is available.
  • Lower-cost electricity: use a supported price-data source to prompt battery charging or schedule a high-load appliance when prices are low.
  • Outage preparation: send an alert or reduce nonessential loads based on a user-defined condition. Backup reserve and outage switching still depend on the EcoFlow system and its controls.

Before connecting equipment, check the exact EcoFlow model, Homey platform, country, smart-meter interface, and intended action. A monitor-only setup is different from one that can start charging or alter battery behavior. A safe commissioning approach is to validate readings first, then begin with a notification-only Flow before allowing automatic control.

Setup: a safe outline

  1. Confirm compatibility. Verify the exact EcoFlow product family in the current official Homey app listing, confirm the Homey platform, and check whether the meter has a compatible P1 port if using the dongle.
  2. Update software. Install Homey software and mobile app versions that support Energy, and update the EcoFlow app and device firmware.
  3. Add the official EcoFlow Homey app. Find it in the Homey App Store and confirm it supports your specific EcoFlow product.
  4. Connect the dongle if it is available and applicable. Connect its RJ12 lead to the meter’s P1 port. Homey’s guide describes a breathing-blue pairing indicator; provide USB-C power if the meter does not supply enough. Ensure 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi is available.
  5. Add the meter in Homey and inspect readings. Check that the expected consumption, generation, import, or export values appear and make sense for your installation.
  6. Link the dongle in the EcoFlow app. Follow the current in-app instructions; the available documentation does not establish a single menu path that applies across app versions.
  7. Test before automating control. Compare readings with the meter or EcoFlow dashboard. Start with a notification Flow, then add flexible-load control only after readings and triggers behave as expected.

Keep safety-critical circuits, medical equipment, refrigeration, and backup reserve outside aggressive optimization rules. Stale data, overlapping schedules, or a disconnected service can make an automation behave differently than intended.

Is the partnership a good fit?

It is most useful if

  • You already own EcoFlow PowerOcean equipment and a Homey system.
  • You want energy conditions to trigger actions across compatible lights, appliances, EV charging, or HVAC equipment.
  • You have a supported meter and live in a region where the relevant hardware and services are available.
  • You are willing to verify model-level compatibility and test automations before relying on them.

It is a poor fit if

  • You own only an EcoFlow portable power station and expect it to appear automatically in Homey.
  • You are in the US and are considering the Energy Dongle as a plug-and-play solution.
  • You need certified utility demand response, guaranteed outage switching, or a wholly cloud-independent workflow.
  • You only need basic monitoring for one EcoFlow device and do not need cross-brand automation.

Alternatives and trade-offs

Approach Best suited to Key limitation
EcoFlow app alone Owners who primarily need to configure and monitor their supported EcoFlow system. Does not provide Homey’s broader cross-brand automation layer.
Homey with another compatible meter Households whose meter or region does not suit the Energy Dongle. Meter installation method, app support, and Homey plan requirements vary by model.
Homey without EcoFlow People seeking a general smart-home and energy-monitoring platform with compatible equipment. Does not provide EcoFlow-specific battery and inverter integration.
Community Homey integrations Users willing to explore integrations beyond official apps. Maintenance, support, privacy, and reliability may differ from official integrations.

Homey Pro is marketed for local operation, but that does not establish that every EcoFlow integration or price, weather, and remote-access service runs locally. The Homey hub’s operation, EcoFlow account services, third-party data, and remote access are separate parts of a system; verify the behavior that matters to you before relying on it.
