Yes. Dyson has released the V16 Piston Animal cordless vacuum. It was announced on September 4, 2025, and official Dyson stores in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada listed it by August 18, 2026. However, “globally” does not mean it is available in every country at the same time.
The V16 is Dyson’s flagship anti-tangle cordless model, with a claimed 315 Air Watts of inlet suction, a 900W motor, a new conical floorhead and a dust-compressing bin. Its biggest question is not whether it is powerful on paper, but whether the new floorhead performs as well on every carpet, rug and edge as the headline specification suggests.

Dyson V16 Piston Animal availability and launch date
Dyson announced the V16 Piston Animal on September 4, 2025. It is now a released product rather than an upcoming or rumored vacuum.
Official Dyson product pages showed the dry V16 Piston Animal in several markets by August 18, 2026:

These prices and stock states were observed on August 18, 2026, and can change. Regional versions may have different product codes, accessories, promotions, warranties and delivery arrangements. Use the local Dyson website rather than assuming an imported model can be bought or serviced in your country.
Importing a vacuum can also create problems with charger compatibility, battery shipping, warranty coverage, returns and replacement parts. Dyson’s support pages identify the V16 range as SV53, but regional packages and codes can differ.
What is new about the V16 Piston Animal?
The V16 combines a higher-powered motor with a redesigned floorhead and a new bin mechanism.
- 900W Hyperdymium motor: Dyson’s motor used in the V16 platform.
- Up to 315 Air Watts: Dyson’s maximum Boost-mode inlet-suction claim.
- All Floor Cones Sense head: A floorhead with two rotating conical brush bars designed to move long hair towards the centre and into the bin.
- Automatic floor adjustment: In Auto mode, the cleaner is designed to adjust suction and brush-bar speed for different floor types.
- CleanCompaktor bin: A piston compresses dust and debris inside the bin.
- Fluffy Optic head: Included in the US dry configuration and offered in some regional packages or promotions.
- Optional wet-cleaning configuration: The separate V16 Piston Animal Submarine adds Dyson’s Submarine 2.0 wet roller head.
Dyson also says the conical head can handle hair up to 25 inches long and that the compressed bin can hold up to 30 days of dust and debris. Those are manufacturer claims, not guarantees for every home, hair type or flooring material.

The 70-minute figure is a maximum runtime claim, not the expected time when cleaning a whole home with a motorized head. Power mode, attachment, floor type, debris load and battery condition all affect runtime. Boost mode will reduce operating time substantially.
Similarly, 315AW is an inlet measurement taken under Dyson’s cited testing method, ASTM F558-21. It does not represent identical suction delivered at the cleaner head on every floor. It should not be compared directly with another brand’s number unless the testing position, method and mode are equivalent.

Does the new floorhead prevent hair tangles?
The All Floor Cones Sense head is the V16’s defining design change. Its two conical brush bars rotate in a way intended to draw long hair towards the centre, where it can be pulled into the bin instead of wrapping around a conventional brush bar.
The head is also designed to adapt to different floor types, illuminate dust on hard floors and improve front-edge cleaning. Dyson says additional rug strips help reduce stalling on soft furnishings.
That design may be especially useful in homes with long human hair or shedding pets. But anti-tangle performance is not the same as universally superior cleaning. Independent testing by RTINGS found that the floorhead’s large shape and central plastic strip could affect carpet pickup and make some edges and corners harder to clean. TechRadar also identified the floorhead as a significant weakness, while WIRED reported mixed results with sand and other debris on rugs and hard floors.
The evidence is therefore mixed rather than conclusive: the V16 may reduce hair wrapping and perform strongly on some pet-hair tasks, but the floorhead’s geometry can create compromises on certain carpets, rugs, edges and corners.
Is the V16 good for pet hair?
It can be a strong pet-hair option, but it is not automatically the best pet vacuum because it has the highest suction figure.

The result will depend on carpet pile, hair length, fur texture, debris size and how closely the head contacts the floor. Testing also found situations where older Dyson models performed better on particular carpet or debris tasks. Owners with thick rugs, high-pile carpet or heavily embedded fur should pay more attention to independent pickup results than to the 315AW headline.

Anecdotal owner discussions, including reports on r/dyson and r/VacuumCleaners, can highlight possible issues with the conical head, but they are not controlled tests or evidence of a failure rate.
What does the CleanCompaktor bin do?
The CleanCompaktor system uses a piston to compress dust and debris inside the bin. Dyson says this can provide up to 30 days of dust capacity and uses a wipe-clean emptying mechanism intended to reduce residual dust and hair.
Compression may be convenient for fluffy pet hair and ordinary household dust, but the 30-day estimate will vary with household size, cleaning frequency and debris type. Damp or sticky material, bulky particles and different kinds of pet hair may not compress in the same way. The mechanism may reduce how often the bin needs emptying, but it does not eliminate filter cleaning, blockage checks or other maintenance.

Dyson lists a 0.35-gallon bin for the US dry model. The Floor Dok bundle page describes a 0.36-gallon figure, so buyers should check the specification for the exact regional configuration.

The V16 Piston Animal Submarine is a separate wet-and-dry configuration, not a wet-mopping attachment that is universally included with the standard dry vacuum.
It adds the Submarine 2.0 wet roller head, which Dyson says uses hydration, agitation and extraction to clean spills and stains on hard floors. It may suit a home with mostly sealed hard flooring where one system is preferred for both vacuuming and wet cleaning.

It is less compelling for carpet-heavy homes or buyers who already own a good mop or floor washer. Wet cleaning also adds setup, cleaning and drying responsibilities. RTINGS found the V16’s mopping performance broadly similar to the previous V15s Submarine rather than a dramatic leap.
How does it compare with older Dyson models?
Dyson’s higher suction claim does not prove that the V16 will clean every surface better than the V15 Detect or Gen5Detect.
- V15 Detect: Worth considering if independent carpet results, a proven floorhead or a lower discounted price matter more than the V16’s new anti-tangle design.
- Gen5Detect: Independent testing found situations where it performed similarly to, or better than, the V16 on particular debris tests despite the V16’s higher advertised suction.
- V15s Detect Submarine: Relevant for buyers considering wet cleaning, especially if it is substantially cheaper in their market.
Current prices for these alternatives vary by country and promotion, so compare live local Dyson pages rather than relying on an old advertised price.
Who should buy the V16 Piston Animal?
Buy it when:
- You want Dyson’s newest high-end dry cordless design.
- Long hair or pet hair regularly wraps around ordinary brush bars.
- Your home has mixed hard floors and carpet.
- You value automatic floor adaptation and dust illumination.
- A compressed bin is more useful to you than a simpler conventional dust cup.
- You are comfortable paying a premium for new technology.
- A local discount or bundle makes the price more competitive.
Consider another Dyson when:
- Thick-carpet pickup matters more than maximum motor suction.
- You prefer a more established floorhead design.
- The V15 Detect or Gen5Detect is significantly cheaper.
- You need easier access to tight edges, corners or furniture.
- You do not want to pay extra for a Floor Dok or wet-cleaning bundle.
- You prefer a simpler vacuum with fewer mechanical features.
Bottom line: is the Dyson V16 Piston Animal worth buying?
The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is a real, released flagship cordless vacuum available through official Dyson stores in multiple markets. Its main strengths are the 900W motor, claimed 315AW inlet suction, anti-tangle conical floorhead, automatic floor adaptation and dust-compressing bin.

Its main limitation is that higher inlet suction does not guarantee better floor pickup everywhere. Independent testing found mixed results against the V15 Detect and Gen5Detect, particularly on some carpets, rugs, debris types and edges. The best buying decision depends on whether reduced hair wrapping and the newest design matter more to you than proven floorhead performance and value.
For long-haired pet owners with mixed flooring, the V16 is worth serious consideration—especially at a local discount. For thick-carpet homes, budget-conscious buyers or anyone satisfied with an older Dyson, compare real-world carpet testing and local pricing before upgrading.
