Verdict: The Dreo oil-filled radiator is a strong choice for quiet, steady supplemental heat in a bedroom, office, or other enclosed room. Its main weakness is cost: a 1,500-watt electric heater can become expensive to run for long periods. It is also bulky and, unlike some ceramic alternatives, does not provide app-based scheduling.
This review focuses on the U.S. 1,500W version, particularly Dreo’s current Oil-filled Radiator 153 (DR-HSH033). Dreo’s product names and controls have changed, so older reviews should not automatically be treated as descriptions of the current model.

Which Dreo radiator is this?
Model identification matters. The independent review published by Tech Advisor covered a 1,500W U.S. version and a different 2,000W U.K. version. The reviewed models also had different fin configurations and a digital display, remote control, Eco mode, and 24-hour timer.
Dreo’s current U.S. Radiator 153, model DR-HSH033, is listed with seven M-shaped fins, dual-knob controls, a 41–95°F temperature range, three heat settings, and a claimed 250-square-foot coverage area. Do not assume that the current dual-knob model has every feature described in the older digital-control review.

Heating performance
At 1,500W, the Dreo can deliver substantial supplemental heat. Tech Advisor found the tested radiator warmed a room quickly for an oil-filled design, although oil-filled radiators normally feel more gradual than fan heaters.
The heat is broad and gentle rather than a narrow blast of hot air. That makes the format well suited to maintaining comfort in a bedroom or office, especially where fan noise is undesirable. Dreo’s 250-square-foot figure is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee. A drafty or poorly insulated room may remain uncomfortable even when the heater runs continuously.
Oil-filled radiators work best in enclosed spaces. In an open-plan area, a room with frequent air leakage, or a space larger than the heater is designed for, the heat can disperse before the room reaches the target temperature.

Is it really silent?
For normal operation, effectively yes: the oil-filled design does not use a heating fan, so there is no continuous fan noise. That is a meaningful advantage for light sleepers, home workers, and people watching television.

“Silent” does not mean completely noiseless. The tested unit produced temporary popping or crackling sounds while warming, particularly in a cold room. These sounds are associated with expansion and contraction and are different from continuous fan noise.
Thermostat, Eco mode, and controls
The reviewed model had three heat settings, an adjustable target temperature, Eco mode, and a thermostat that switched the heating element off after reaching the selected temperature and back on as the room cooled. It also included a timer of up to 24 hours in one-hour increments.
Those functions can reduce unnecessary runtime, but they do not make the heater electrically efficient in a special sense. When the element is actively heating, a 1,500W model still draws about 1.5 kilowatt-hours per hour at full power.

What does it cost to run?
Use this calculation:
Hourly cost = 1.5 × your electricity rate per kWh
| Electricity rate | Approximate full-power cost per hour |
|---|---|
| $0.15/kWh | $0.225 |
| $0.20/kWh | $0.30 |
| $0.30/kWh | $0.45 |
| $0.40/kWh | $0.60 |
At $0.20/kWh, continuous full-power operation would cost approximately $2.40 for eight hours, $7.20 for 24 hours, or $216 for 30 days at eight hours per day.
These are maximum-style examples, not a prediction of your bill. The thermostat can cycle the element off once the room reaches its target. Actual consumption depends on insulation, the set temperature, outdoor conditions, drafts, and how often the heater cycles.
Dreo uses “energy-saving” language for the Radiator 153. That should be understood as a claim about output and control behavior, not proof that it costs 60% less to operate than another 1,500W electric resistance heater. The oil does not create extra heat; it helps the radiator retain and release heat steadily.

Caster wheels make it reasonably easy to roll across a level floor, but they do not make it genuinely portable. Carrying it upstairs is awkward, and it needs dedicated floor space. Never place it on a bed, sofa, table, or other elevated surface.
The reviewed model required attaching the caster feet with supplied screws. The assembly was described as straightforward. The tester also noticed a faint metallic smell during first use and recommended operating the heater at full power for two hours in a ventilated room to dissipate factory odor. Follow the instructions for your exact model rather than assuming every Dreo radiator has identical first-use requirements.

- Let it cool before moving or cleaning it.
- Follow the model-specific manual and local fire-safety guidance.
Dreo support documentation says the surface of at least some radiator models can reach up to 80°C. Tip-over protection helps if the heater falls, but it does not make the surface cool to the touch. Avoid treating the heater as automatically safe for unsupervised overnight operation.
How it compares with alternatives
Ceramic fan heater
A ceramic heater is usually lighter and provides heat almost immediately through directed airflow. It may also offer oscillation, remote control, app control, or more sophisticated scheduling, depending on the model. The trade-off is fan noise and more noticeable airflow. Dreo’s ceramic and whole-room range includes models with different control systems, but those features should not be transferred to its oil-filled radiators.
Premium smart radiator
A smart radiator such as supported Mill models is a better fit if phone scheduling, energy monitoring, and remote temperature management are priorities. Such products generally cost substantially more. The Dreo is the better value when quiet heat matters more than connected controls.
Central heating
The Dreo is best viewed as supplemental or zonal heating. It can warm the room you are using without raising the temperature throughout an entire home, but it is not a replacement for a properly sized central heating system.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Effectively quiet during normal operation.
- Strong 1,500W supplemental heat output.
- Fanless design does not blow air around the room.
- Thermostat and Eco-style operation on the reviewed configuration.
- Floor casters make level-floor movement easier.
- Tip-over and overheat protections are listed for the current model.
Cons
- Long periods of operation can be expensive.
- Bulky compared with compact ceramic heaters.
- Not convenient to carry between floors.
- No confirmed app scheduling on the reviewed oil-filled model.
- Possible popping or crackling during initial heating.
- Dreo model names and feature sets are easy to confuse.
Who should buy it?
Buy the Dreo oil-filled radiator if you want quiet, steady heat for a small or medium enclosed room and are comfortable with the electricity cost. It is particularly appealing for a bedroom, office, or other space where fan noise and moving dust are unwelcome.
Skip it if you need phone scheduling, instant directional airflow, a lightweight heater, or the lowest possible running cost. Before buying, confirm the model number, control layout, wattage, stock status, and return terms on the product page. Dreo lists a 12-month warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee subject to its conditions.
