The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold 10 public hearings from Oct. 20 through Oct. 29, 2026, to gather comments on proposed highway construction priorities for state fiscal year 2027-2028. The hearings, known as the DOTD Road Show, cover every part of the state and give residents, local officials and legislators a chance to weigh in before DOTD submits a final construction program to the Louisiana Legislature.
What the DOTD Road Show decides
DOTD’s preliminary Highway Priority Program identifies projects that could be let for construction in fiscal year 2027-2028, as well as projects moving through other development stages. The Road Show is the public-input portion of that process. Comments can influence which needs and projects receive attention as DOTD develops its final program.

The hearings do not award contracts, authorize construction or guarantee funding for every project shown in the preliminary priorities. Final programming comes after the hearings and must be submitted to the Louisiana Legislature. Individual project outcomes therefore remain unsettled at this stage.
DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet described the purpose of the hearings this way: “The Road Show is an important part of how we determine where Louisiana’s transportation dollars are invested.” He said the process allows DOTD to hear from legislators, local leaders and people who use the roads.

When is the DOTD Road Show in my area?
The statewide schedule has two hearings on several days. Choose the meeting whose listed parishes include your community.

Bossier City and the Shreveport-area hearing
Residents asking, “When is the DOTD Road Show in my area?” in the Shreveport-area district should attend the Bossier City hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 8:30 a.m. It will be held in the Bossier City Council Chambers at 620 Benton Road and covers Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Red River and Webster parishes.

Where can I comment on Louisiana’s 2027-2028 highway priorities?
People may participate in several ways:
- Attend in person: Go to the hearing for the district and parishes where the issue is located. Public comments may be given at the meeting.
- Submit supporting material: Written information and documentation may supplement oral testimony. Materials can be delivered at a hearing.
- Comment online: DOTD says online comments will be accepted.
- Attend virtually: Virtual access will be available, according to DOTD.
- Mail a written statement: Send comments to the Joint Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee, c/o LA DOTD (Section 85), P.O. Box 94245, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9245.
Mailed comments must be postmarked within 45 calendar days after the final hearing. Because the last hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29, commenters should retain proof of mailing and allow enough time for delivery.
How to make a useful comment
- Identify the highway, interchange, bridge or corridor and the parish where it is located.
- Describe the safety, congestion, freight, evacuation, drainage or access problem and when it occurs.
- Explain who is affected, such as commuters, school buses, emergency responders, agricultural users or commercial traffic.
- Attach relevant documentation, including photographs, crash information, maps or local resolutions, if available.
- State the requested action clearly and indicate whether the need is urgent or tied to a particular development or safety concern.
What roads are on the DOTD construction list?
The announcement concerns DOTD’s preliminary Highway Priority Program, not a final list of awarded construction projects. It includes projects anticipated for construction letting in the upcoming fiscal year and projects advancing through planning, design or other development stages. The public notice provides the hearing schedule and coverage areas; it does not establish that every preliminary project will be funded or built.

Residents seeking a specific project’s status should use their hearing testimony or written submission to identify the route and location precisely. The final construction program will be developed after public hearings and then submitted to the Louisiana Legislature.
