The right door-hinges video depends on what you are working on: a cabinet door, a concealed soft-close hinge, or a full-size room door. Identify the application, hinge style, and product code before following any video. Cabinet and room-door hardware use different mounting patterns, tools, and adjustment methods, so a video for one cannot safely be treated as instructions for the other.
Start by identifying the door and hinge
Look at the hardware before searching for a video. A cabinet door may use a concealed cup hinge inside a 35 mm bored hole, a surface-mounted or wraparound hinge, or a clip-on soft-close system. A room door normally uses visible leaf hinges, while some door systems use an adjustable hinge body with separate vertical and horizontal controls. Manufacturers often organize instructions by package or product number. For example, Blum’s hinge assembly page tells you to match the number printed on the package or product, such as “H001,” to the corresponding instruction sheet: Blum hinge assembly instructions. Use that model match instead of selecting a visually similar video.

How to use a door-hinges video safely
- Read the model label. Photograph the hinge, mounting plate, and any package markings. Record whether the door is inset, half-overlay, or full-overlay on a cabinet, or whether it is a room door in a wood, metal, or composite frame.
- Open the manufacturer’s page. Choose the product family and then the installation, door-attachment, or adjustment video. A general search result can show a similar-looking hinge with a different screw pattern.
- Watch once without tools running. Note the order in which the installer supports the door, removes screws, clips the hinge, and makes adjustments. Pause on diagrams that show screw locations or movement arrows.
- Prepare protection and support. Wear safety glasses when drilling, keep fingers clear of a clip mechanism, and support a door before removing its last hinge or screw. A cabinet door can fall even when it feels light.
- Make one change at a time. Mark the original screw position or adjustment setting. After each change, close the door slowly and check the reveal, latch, and rubbing points.
- Stop when the hardware differs. If the video shows a mounting plate, cup, or adjustment screw that your hinge does not have, return to the product-code instructions rather than improvising.
Installing a concealed soft-close cabinet hinge
The documented tool list for one concealed soft-close installation includes a 35 mm hinge-cup hole saw, drill, 3/32-inch drill bit, screwdriver, level, safety glasses, and tape measure. Measure from the door edge and top or bottom exactly as the model diagram specifies. A cup that is too close to the edge can break through the end grain; a cup that is too shallow can prevent the hinge from sitting flat. Clamp the door securely, drill square to the face, and clear chips before test-fitting the cup.
Attach the cup and mounting plate
Seat the hinge cup fully in the bored recess without forcing it. Fasten the cup using the supplied screw locations or dowels shown for the model. Attach the matching mounting plate to the cabinet side, keeping its reference edge aligned with the cabinet’s front or the setback called out in the instructions. Do not substitute a plate merely because the screw holes appear close; plate height and setback determine the door’s final position.
Clip on and remove the door
Clip-on systems use a release point that allows the hinge arm to attach to or detach from the mounting plate. Blum’s COMPACT CLIP page provides separate “Adjustment” and “Door Attachment” videos; the latter demonstrates clipping and unclipping the hinge: COMPACT CLIP downloads and videos. Keep the door supported while releasing a clip. Never pull the door away while another hinge is carrying its full weight unless the model instructions explicitly permit that sequence.

Set the door reveal
Use the hinge’s adjustment screws in the directions shown for that model. Typical concealed hinges provide separate movements for side-to-side alignment, depth, and height through the hinge or mounting plate, but the screw arrangement varies. Turn an adjustment in small increments, close the door, and inspect the gap along the hinge side, latch side, top, and bottom. If the door binds only when closed, check depth and whether the cabinet itself is square before forcing more adjustment.
Replacing a cabinet hinge without losing alignment
The Amazon Basics replacement guide describes a particular self-closing cabinet hinge. Its sequence is useful only when the replacement matches the existing hinge’s dimensions and inset depth. Compare those measurements before removing all the hardware; a different overlay or cup position can leave the door unusable.
- Open the door and support it. Place a temporary support under the lower edge or have another person hold the door.
- Remove the bottom hinge first. Keep the upper hinge attached so it continues to locate the door while you compare the replacement.
- Compare dimensions and inset depth. Check the cup or leaf size, distance from the edge, mounting-plate position, and screw pattern against the existing hinge.
- Install the replacement on the bottom. Start all screws loosely, align the door, then tighten evenly without stripping the cabinet material.
- Replace the top hinge. With the bottom hinge holding the door, remove and replace the top hinge, again supporting the door and using the original alignment as a reference.
- Test the self-closing action. Close the door slowly and verify that it reaches the cabinet without rubbing. Make only the model’s permitted adjustments.
The guide states a 45 lb maximum loading capacity for that Amazon Basics hinge product and was published on December 16, 2019: Amazon Basics hinges installation guide. Treat 45 lb as that product guide’s specification, not a general rating for cabinet hinges. Confirm the current product documentation before relying on it, and account for the door’s own weight plus anything attached to it.

Finding the correct Blum video and instruction sheet
Blum publishes separate materials for several hinge families. The assembly page includes product-specific kits such as COMPACT wraparound hinges and CLIP top BLUMOTION 110-degree soft-close hinges. Use the family name and package code together; a 110-degree hinge video may not apply to a 100- or 120-degree model, even if the arm looks similar.
- For COMPACT CLIP: use the adjustment video when the door is attached but misaligned, and the door-attachment video when you need to clip or unclip the hinge.
- For CLIP top BLUMOTION: open the downloads and videos page for the exact family and select the installation or adjustment material matching your product: CLIP top BLUMOTION downloads and videos.
- For an unidentified hinge: remove no hardware until you have photographed the markings and measured the cup, plate, and overlay.
If the manufacturer’s page offers a PDF and a video, use both. The video shows hand position and clip motion; the PDF usually supplies drilling dimensions, screw locations, and a parts diagram that is easier to pause and measure.
Adjustable hinges on a room door
Do not use a concealed cabinet-hinge video for an adjustable room-door hinge. HOPPE’s cited adjustable-hinge instructions describe two different hinge roles: set hinges provide vertical adjustment, while guide hinges provide horizontal adjustment. Each direction is specified as plus or minus 0.12 inches (approximately 3 mm) for the described designs, and the instructions call for a 3/16-inch hex wrench: HOPPE adjustable-hinge adjustment instructions.

Vertical correction
Use the set-hinge adjustment identified in the instructions to raise or lower the panel within the stated range. Support the door while changing the setting, especially if the door is heavy or the frame has shifted. Move in small increments and check that the latch still enters the strike cleanly.
Horizontal correction
Use the guide-hinge adjustment for side-to-side movement. Correct a rubbing latch edge gradually rather than moving one hinge to its full range. Check the reveal at several heights because a frame can be out of square, requiring coordinated changes at more than one hinge.
When adjustment is not enough
If the door remains out of position after the documented range is used, inspect loose frame screws, distorted leaves, a damaged seal, or a frame that is not plumb. Do not lengthen slots, grind hinge parts, or substitute a different hex key; those changes can weaken the hardware and invalidate the model’s adjustment limits.

Compatibility checks before buying a replacement
Search terms such as “cabinet hinges” identify a category, not a guaranteed fit. Match the physical and functional details below before ordering:

Troubleshooting after the video
The door is still rubbing
- Close the door slowly and identify the exact edge that contacts the frame.
- Confirm every mounting screw is seated and that the hinge plate has not shifted.
- Use only the adjustment direction shown for the model; a depth correction will not replace a height correction.
- On a room door, check whether the problem is vertical or horizontal before choosing the set or guide hinge.
The cabinet door sits proud or recessed
- Verify overlay versus inset configuration and mounting-plate setback.
- Check that the hinge cup is fully seated and that the recess is the specified depth.
- Confirm the replacement hinge has the same dimensions and inset depth as the original.
The clip will not release
- Support the door and locate the release point shown in the model-specific attachment video.
- Do not pry against the cabinet face or force the hinge arm sideways.
- If the mechanism differs from the video, stop and find the instruction sheet for the package or product code.
Screws spin without tightening
Stop driving the screw. A stripped particleboard hole may need an approved repair method or a different fastener specified by the hinge manufacturer. Do not move the hinge plate to an arbitrary location without checking door clearance and structural support.
Safety and quality checks before finishing
- Keep the door supported whenever a hinge is being removed or unclipped.
- Wear safety glasses for drilling, and keep the drill square to the door face.

A useful door-hinges video is therefore the one tied to your exact hardware, not the one with the most views. Identify the application and model, verify dimensions and inset depth, gather the specified tools, and follow the manufacturer’s attachment and adjustment sequence one change at a time.
