What does the broader pillow research show?
A 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis examined pillow designs and outcomes including neck pain, waking symptoms, disability, sleep quality, and alignment. Its authors included 35 articles; nine higher-quality studies involved 555 participants. They reported benefits favoring rubber pillows for neck pain, and rubber or spring pillows for some waking-pain and disability outcomes. These findings concern pillow categories, not Derila or butterfly-shaped pillows specifically.
For sleep quality among patients with chronic neck pain, the review reported no significant effect from pillow design (SMD 0.047, P=0.703). That outcome is not the same as a direct measurement of REM sleep, and it does not support a claim of 40 additional minutes. The headline’s “11K 4.5-Star Reviews” statistic is not verified by the retrieved sources: they do not establish which platform or date it refers to. Derila’s product page displayed a 4.5 rating, while its Trustpilot company page displayed 46,024 reviews and a 4.1 TrustScore when retrieved. These are different platform-specific measures, and review counts and scores can change. Neither rating verifies a pain-relief or REM-sleep claim.

A pillow is a fit choice, not a guaranteed treatment. The 2021 review notes that pillow shape and height may affect cervical alignment, but that does not show that one contour works for everyone. Compare options against practical criteria rather than relying on a product’s shape or headline claim:
