DJI ROMO Robot Vacuum Review: Impressive Obstacle Avoidance, but Is It Worth the Premium?

Verdict: DJI ROMO is a serious premium robot vacuum-and-mop range, not a single model. Its strongest apparent advantage is obstacle avoidance, supported by binocular fisheye vision and solid-state LiDAR. The range also offers high-pressure mop washing, drying, automatic dust emptying and dual extendable cleaning arms. However, the high price, regional availability, evolving app ecosystem and uncertain local support make ROMO a cautious recommendation rather than an automatic best buy.

Choose ROMO S for the least expensive entry into the range. Choose ROMO A or ROMO P only if their transparent designs and additional station or deodorizing features matter to you. Buyers in the United States should confirm local shipping, warranty, voltage, replacement parts and app support before ordering.

What is DJI ROMO?

DJI ROMO is DJI’s robot vacuum and mop family. The currently surfaced range includes the ROMO S, ROMO A and ROMO P, with regional configurations and availability varying by market. The official product material describes a common platform built around up to 25,000 Pa claimed suction, dual anti-tangle rollers, binocular fisheye vision, solid-state LiDAR, extendable edge-cleaning arms and an automated multifunction station. DJI’s ROMO site and regional DJI Store pages should be treated as the authority for the version sold in your country.

This is therefore a range review rather than a claim that every ROMO model performs identically. The S, A and P share many headline cleaning and navigation specifications, but differ in appearance, station configuration, accessories and deodorizing features.

ROMO S vs. ROMO A vs. ROMO P

Model Main distinction Who it suits
ROMO S White robot and white station with the core ROMO feature set. Buyers who want ROMO’s hardware without paying for transparent styling or the P’s extra features.
ROMO A Transparent robot with a standard white station. Design-conscious buyers who prefer the transparent robot but do not need the top station configuration.
ROMO P Transparent robot and transparent station, with additional deodorizer-related and higher-end station features. Flagship buyers who value design and the extra hygiene-related hardware.

On the Canada-region DJI Store page surfaced for this review, prices were approximately US$1,089 for ROMO S, US$1,309 for ROMO A and US$1,339 for ROMO P when checked on August 16, 2026. These are not U.S. retail prices. DJI states that pricing and availability vary by country or region.

The headline hardware

DJI claims up to 25,000 Pa suction, but that number is not an independent pickup result. Pascal figures cannot be compared fairly across brands without matching airflow, brush design, nozzle geometry and test conditions. The meaningful questions are how much dust, hair and debris the robot actually collects, how well it performs on carpet and whether it leaves residue near edges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The robot uses dual roller brushes marketed as anti-tangle components for long hair. It also has two extendable arms intended to reach along baseboards and into corners. DJI’s “100%” edge-coverage language is a marketing claim, not a guarantee that every corner or irregular wall will be cleaned completely.

ROMO’s station is designed to wash and dry the mop pads, empty the dustbin and manage clean and dirty water. DJI also claims up to 200 days of maintenance-free operation. That should be read as a manufacturer estimate under particular household and usage conditions—not as a promise that the station will require no cleaning for 200 days.

Vacuuming performance: what matters most

ROMO’s specifications suggest a capable premium cleaner, particularly for homes with hard floors, children, pets and everyday clutter. But suction figures alone do not establish that it beats a Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs or Roomba in real pickup.

A proper evaluation should separate:

  • Fine dust and flour on hard floors.
  • Rice, crumbs and other larger debris.
  • Pet hair and long human hair.
  • Short and thick carpet.
  • Cleaning along baseboards and in corners.
  • Pickup after the internal dustbin becomes partly full.
  • Hair wrapped around the dual rollers after repeated runs.

For a repeatable comparison, weigh a fixed quantity of each debris type, spread it over a defined area, run the robot in normal and maximum modes, then weigh what it recovers. Repeat on hard floor and carpet. Also record whether suction increases automatically on carpet and whether the robot avoids debris so widely that it leaves large uncleaned areas.

Until those measurements exist for a particular model, “25,000 Pa” should remain a specification, not a performance verdict.

Mopping and floor hygiene

The official product pages list four cleaning modes: Vacuum & Mop, Vacuum, Mop, and Vacuum Then Mop. Mop performance depends on more than water delivery. Pad pressure, water flow, edge reach, carpet behavior, stain removal and how often the robot returns to wash the pads all affect the result.

For hard floors, ROMO’s automated pad washing and drying could be more valuable than a marginal increase in suction. The useful tests are dried spills, sticky marks, water streaking, dirty mop pads after a mixed vacuum-and-mop run and odor after the pads remain wet. A long cleaning job should also reveal whether the robot returns to the station often enough to keep the pads effective.

Check the app and firmware version before judging water control. DJI’s release notes document features including extra-low water flow, carpet-detection improvements and mop-related drying information, but availability can vary by model and software version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

One practical edge case deserves attention: whether the robot wets its mop pads correctly when cleaning away from the station. A community report raised this concern for certain workflows, but it is anecdotal and should not be treated as a universal defect without a controlled test.

Obstacle avoidance is ROMO’s clearest differentiator

DJI equips ROMO with binocular fisheye vision sensors and wide-angle solid-state LiDAR. The intended benefit is closer, more precise navigation around cables, toys, socks, pet bowls and other small objects.

Independent TechRadar coverage of ROMO P described its obstacle avoidance as unusually impressive. The DJI Home app reportedly offers three obstacle-avoidance priorities:

  • Obstacle Avoidance Priority: favors keeping away from objects.
  • Standard: balances safety and coverage.
  • Cleaning Priority: moves closer to obstacles to reduce missed areas.

That distinction matters. Avoiding an object is not the same as cleaning effectively around it. A robot that stays several inches away from every cable or chair leg may avoid entanglements while leaving visible debris behind.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A meaningful test should include cables, socks, slippers, toys, pet bowls, thin objects, dark objects, reflective surfaces, low furniture and a safe pet-waste substitute. Record three separate outcomes: whether the robot avoids the object, how much floor it misses and whether its behavior remains consistent in low light and changing room layouts.

Mapping and navigation

ROMO uses its LiDAR and vision system to create maps for room cleaning, scheduling and restricted areas. Setup uses the DJI Home app, Bluetooth pairing and Wi-Fi connection, as described in the ROMO user manual.

Important navigation checks include:

  • First-map creation and room recognition.
  • Multi-floor map support.
  • Room naming and room-specific cleaning.
  • No-go zones and virtual walls.
  • Docking after a long cleaning run.
  • Recovery after the robot is manually moved.
  • Low furniture, thresholds and tight chair legs.
  • Repeated retries, trapped behavior and missed rooms.

Later ROMO software materials mention virtual-wall drawing, low-clearance strategies, improved positioning and threshold-related functions on newer model generations. Do not assume every feature is available on every S, A or P unit. The exact firmware version matters.

Is the base station really maintenance-free?

The station is central to ROMO’s value. DJI describes high-pressure water cleaning, mop washing and drying, a large waste-suction port and up to 200 days of maintenance-free use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In practice, “maintenance-free” should mean reduced routine attention, not no maintenance. Owners should still expect some combination of:

  • Filling the clean-water tank and emptying the dirty-water tank.
  • Replacing dust bags, filters, brushes and mop pads.
  • Cleaning the washboard, sensors, filters and roller area.
  • Removing hair and debris from the station.
  • Managing cleaning solution and, on the P, deodorizer supplies.
  • Checking for odor or residue after frequent mopping.

A serious review should record station maintenance time over several weeks rather than repeat DJI’s maximum claim. Household size, cleaning frequency, pet hair, floor area and debris load can all shorten the interval.

Noise, battery and the dock cycle

DJI claims a three-stage sound-suppression system that filters up to 80% of noise during dust collection. That percentage is not an independently verified decibel reduction. Noise should be measured at a stated distance during normal vacuuming, maximum suction, mop washing, dust collection and drying.

Battery duration also depends on suction mode, floor type, map size and the frequency of station returns. Do not rely on a headline runtime unless it was measured under defined conditions. For many homes, the more important question is whether ROMO can resume cleaning reliably after charging and whether its dock cycle is tolerable near living areas.

DJI Home app and smart-home support

The DJI Home app handles setup, maps, schedules, cleaning modes, water-flow settings, obstacle-avoidance priorities, maintenance alerts and firmware updates. Its release history shows continuing feature additions and bug fixes, including a “Pets in House” setting and Matter support for supported ROMO generations.

That support should not be generalized. Matter, voice control, remote video and other connected features can depend on the model, region, firmware and app version. Confirm the following before buying:

  • Whether the exact ROMO model supports Matter or your preferred voice assistant.
  • Whether remote viewing or camera-related functions are enabled in your region.
  • Which cloud account and permissions the app requires.
  • What remains usable if Wi-Fi fails.
  • Whether maps survive a router change, firmware update or manual relocation.

If ROMO includes remote video functions, review the current DJI Home permissions and privacy documentation rather than assuming that vision sensors are equivalent to a security camera.

Pets and hair

ROMO is a plausible choice for pet households because obstacle avoidance may reduce contact with bowls, toys and other floor hazards, while the dual rollers are designed to reduce hair tangling. That is not the same as being tangle-proof or pet-proof.

Pet owners should test hair pickup on both hard floors and carpet, inspect the rollers after repeated runs, check whether the robot disturbs sleeping animals and examine the dock washboard for residue. A safe waste simulant can test avoidance, but real pet waste should never be used as a cleaning test.

Ownership, consumables and regional risk

The purchase price is only part of the cost. Budget for dust bags, filters, side brushes, roller brushes, mop pads, cleaning solution and—where applicable—ROMO P floor deodorizer. Availability and pricing should be checked on the official store for the buyer’s region rather than copied from another market.

The ROMO P listing includes cleaning solution, floor deodorizer and a specialized roller brush among its extras. The S listing includes cleaning solution but not the P’s additional deodorizer-related hardware. These differences help explain the price gap, but they do not prove that A or P cleans better.

  • Whether the seller ships to your address.
  • Voltage, plug and dock compatibility.
  • Local warranty and return arrangements.
  • Replacement-part and cleaning-solution availability.
  • DJI Home app region support.
  • Whether firmware or features are region-limited.

The official ROMO site has a United States region selector, but a regional page does not by itself confirm U.S. retail fulfillment or warranty coverage. Buyers in the United States and other unsupported markets should verify the live local store before paying.

Who should buy ROMO?

Buy ROMO if:

  • You have a cluttered home with children, pets or many small objects.
  • Obstacle avoidance is more important to you than getting the lowest price.
  • You want automated mop washing, drying, dust emptying and water management.
  • Your home is mainly hard flooring and benefits from frequent mopping.
  • You value ROMO’s industrial design and are comfortable with a newer ecosystem.

Skip or reconsider ROMO if:

  • You want the strongest value below roughly $800–$1,000.
  • You need guaranteed U.S. service, easy returns and widely available parts.
  • You expect the 200-day claim to mean zero station maintenance.
  • You want mature integration with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home or Home Assistant.
  • You mainly need deep carpet cleaning and no independent carpet testing is available.
  • You dislike proprietary cleaning fluids or ongoing water-station care.

ROMO alternatives

Roborock is the safer choice for many U.S. buyers because of broader availability, a mature app and established accessory channels. Dreame often offers aggressive feature-to-price positioning and strong edge and mopping features. Ecovacs has extensive robot-vacuum experience and a broad feature set. Narwal is particularly relevant to hard-floor homes that prioritize mopping and dock automation. Roomba remains attractive to buyers who value brand familiarity, local retail support and established service.

ROMO’s case against these alternatives is its combination of vision hardware, LiDAR, extendable arms and unusually strong reported obstacle avoidance. Its case weakens when the price difference is large, local support is uncertain or the buyer does not care about the transparent A and P designs.

Final recommendation

DJI ROMO is most compelling as a premium obstacle-avoidance specialist with a highly automated dock. It is not automatically the best robot vacuum, and its 25,000 Pa and 200-day claims should not replace independent pickup and maintenance measurements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ROMO S is the rational starting point for most buyers who want the platform. ROMO A makes sense mainly for its transparent robot design. ROMO P is justified only when its transparent station and additional deodorizing features are worth the extra cost. If you are buying outside a confirmed supported region, a locally sold Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs, Narwal or Roomba may be the better overall purchase even if ROMO’s hardware is more exciting.
