A Walt Disney Imagineering construction filing has been reported for Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Island Tower, but it does not establish that Disney is adding a building—or explain what work is planned. WDW News Today reported the filing on September 18, 2026, describing the work as “general construction.”
What the reported filing says
According to WDW News Today’s September 18, 2026 report, the Notice of Commencement names Faden Builders Inc. as the contractor and lists 4601 Floridian Way, Lake Buena Vista—the address associated with the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. The reported work description is “general construction,” without plans or a more specific scope.
Those details should be understood as reported by WDW News Today. The Orange County Comptroller record link cited in that report led to a disclaimer rather than an inspectable filing, so the underlying document was not independently reviewed here.
What the permit does—and does not—confirm
The filing report points to construction activity associated with the existing Island Tower location. It does not identify a new building, a renovation, a guest-facing change, or a construction schedule. “General construction” is too broad to determine whether the work concerns the tower itself, its grounds, or another element at the address.

Nor does the reported notice establish the project’s size, duration, or likely effect on resort operations. Until Disney or a more detailed filing identifies the scope, claims about what is being built or changed remain speculation.
Earlier tower work is separate context
WDW News Today reported that crews converted a set of exterior doors into a large window facing Seven Seas Lagoon, with that work completed in May 2026. That earlier project is useful context for recent work at the tower, but the report does not connect it to the September Notice of Commencement. It is not evidence of what the newer filing covers.

The Island Tower opened in December 2024, according to WDW News Today’s permit report. Its recent opening and the earlier window project do not, by themselves, clarify the purpose of the new filing.
Disney’s wider expansion plans do not explain this filing
Disney’s August 16, 2026 official announcement described broader Walt Disney World expansion projects, but did not identify the Island Tower filing or explain its scope. That announcement therefore offers context about resort-wide development, not confirmation of a specific Polynesian project.

How to read the one-year notice period

The report does not state when work will begin, how long it will last, or whether guests should expect noise, closures, or access changes.
