The title “DeWALT Compact Hammer Drill Video” does not identify a model number, video URL, or transcript. Confirm the model shown on the tool or its packaging before applying any specification. If the video shows the ATOMIC 20V MAX 1/2-inch brushless hammer drill, the closest documented match is the DEWALT DCD799B hammer drill. It is a tool-only configuration; the separately listed DCD799D1 kit adds a battery, charger and bag.
What the video title establishes—and what it does not
“Compact hammer drill” describes a category, not a unique product. DEWALT’s catalog contains several compact hammer-drill models, and the title supplied for this article contains no model code. A specification belongs to the drill only after the model in the footage has been confirmed.

One search result is especially easy to misidentify. Oz Tool Talk published “Dewalt DCD796 & DCD791 Compact Hammer Drill & Drill Driver review” on October 7, 2016. That review names the DCD796 and DCD791. It is not evidence that those drills, or either one, are the tools in the video meant by this title. No exact video URL or transcript is available here.
The practical consequence is simple: treat DCD799 specifications as conditional until the footage shows “DCD799,” “DCD799B,” “DCD799D1,” or another unambiguous identifier.

How to identify the drill shown
1. Pause on every visible model marking
Look for a model code printed on the drill housing, a label near the battery interface, the carton, or the instruction material. Record the complete suffix, not just “DCD799.” The suffix distinguishes a tool-only product from a kit and can change what is included in the box.
2. Match the code to an official product page
Use DEWALT’s product listing rather than a retailer headline or a reviewer’s shorthand. The official DCD799B page describes an ATOMIC 20V MAX 1/2-inch cordless brushless hammer drill. The DCD799D1 page identifies a separately sold compact-series kit. If the code visible in the video is DCD796, DCD791, or another model, do not transfer DCD799 figures to it.
3. Check the package shown in the footage
A battery attached to the drill does not prove that the drill was sold with that battery. Review whether the video is demonstrating a bare tool, opening a kit box, or using a battery purchased separately. Package contents are part of the product identity, not an optional detail.
4. Confirm against the manual
The DCD794/DCD799 instruction manual identifies the tool family as a compact drill/driver/hammer drill and labels the mode-selection collar, speed selector, worklight, and keyless chuck. Those labels can help you verify that the video is showing the same family, but they do not establish the exact suffix by themselves.
If the video shows the DCD799B
DEWALT lists the DCD799B as an ATOMIC 20V MAX 1/2-inch cordless brushless hammer drill. Its manufacturer-listed tool-head length is 6.5 inches, and the product page describes a 1/2-inch metal chuck. The listing also specifies an on-tool LED worklight.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
DEWALT states maximum figures of up to 585 UWO, up to 1,650 rpm, and up to 28,050 bpm for this model. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent laboratory measurements or a performance ranking against another drill. “Up to” describes the stated ceiling under the manufacturer’s test or specification conditions; it is not a promise that every bit, material, battery state, or job will reach that number.
The B suffix means tool-only
The DCD799B page lists the drill and belt hook as the included contents. DEWALT explicitly says the battery and charger are sold separately. If a video demonstrates a battery attached to a DCD799B, that battery may be part of the operator’s existing 20V MAX system rather than part of the DCD799B package.

If the video shows the DCD799D1 kit
The DCD799D1 is a separate compact-series kit listing, not merely a different name for the DCD799B package. DEWALT lists the drill, one DCB203 2.0Ah battery, a DCB112 charger, a belt hook, and a kit bag among the contents.
The DCD799D1 page presents two different maximum output figures: up to 404 UWO in its overview and up to 552 UWO in its feature copy. Because the same page is internally inconsistent, do not quote one DCD799D1 output number as if it were an unqualified specification. Check the package label and the current specification section supplied with the actual kit before using that figure in a purchase decision or comparison.

The kit page does describe up to 28,050 bpm. It does not, in the supplied product information, establish that every other DCD799B specification should be copied unchanged into the kit description. Keep the package identity and the source wording attached to each number.

The DCD799B listing additionally gives up to 1,650 rpm, a 6.5-inch tool-head length, a 1/2-inch metal chuck and an on-tool LED worklight. The table keeps those details separate because the DCD799D1 page does not establish matching values in the supplied listing.
Controls documented in the DCD799 manual
The manual labels four controls that are useful when checking a close-up in the video:
- Mode-selection collar: part of the drill/driver/hammer-drill control layout.
- Speed selector: the labeled control for selecting the available speed range.
- Worklight: the integrated light identified in the control diagram.
- Keyless chuck: the chuck assembly identified by the manual; the DCD799B product page describes it as a 1/2-inch metal chuck.
Use the manual for the operating sequence, torque settings, warnings and model-specific limits. A title or short demonstration cannot establish which masonry materials are appropriate, how deeply to drill, which bit to use, or what duty cycle the tool can sustain.
Which specifications matter on a construction job?
Tool-head length
The DCD799B’s listed 6.5-inch tool-head length is relevant where clearance is tight, such as between framing members, inside cabinets or near mechanical services. Measure the actual working envelope, including the chuck and bit, rather than assuming that a “compact” label guarantees access to every location.

Manufacturer-rated output
UWO is the output figure DEWALT publishes for these products. Use it as a manufacturer-rated comparison axis, not as an independent jobsite result. The DCD799D1 page’s conflicting 404-UWO and 552-UWO statements are a reason to verify the exact package and current documentation before treating output as a deciding advantage.
Speed and hammer rate
For the DCD799B, DEWALT lists up to 1,650 rpm and up to 28,050 bpm. Revolutions per minute and blows per minute describe different operating characteristics; neither number alone tells you how quickly a particular bit will cut a particular material. Bit type, pressure, material, battery state and operator control all affect the result, so the figures should be read as the maker’s limits rather than a guaranteed production rate.
Chuck construction and size
The DCD799B listing specifies a 1/2-inch metal chuck. Chuck size indicates the supported shank capacity category, while the bit and accessory still need to be suitable for the intended material and operation. Verify the chuck description on the exact model page if the video appears to show a different suffix.
Power-system logistics
A tool-only drill and a kit can perform the same basic functions while creating different procurement requirements. Crews standardized on DEWALT’s 20V MAX batteries may prefer the DCD799B to add another tool without another charger. A new user who needs a complete setup may value the DCD799D1’s included DCB203 battery, DCB112 charger and bag more than a lower bare-tool price.

Choosing the right package
Choose the tool-only configuration when
- You already have a compatible 20V MAX battery and charger.
- You want the drill and belt hook without another battery system component.
- You have confirmed that the video’s tool is the DCD799B rather than a visually similar model.
Choose the kit configuration when
- You need a battery and charger immediately.
- The video or your jobsite context shows the DCD799D1 package, including its kit bag.
- You want the listed 2.0Ah DCB203 battery as part of the initial purchase.
Do not compare a bare-tool price with a kit price as though they represented the same contents. Write down the model suffix, battery, charger and accessories before comparing quotations.

Safe verification and use workflow
- Stop the video at the clearest product-label frame and record the full model code.
- Open the matching DEWALT product page and check whether it is a tool-only listing or a kit.
- Compare the visible chuck, controls and included accessories with the official description.
- Read the DCD794/DCD799 manual for the exact controls, warnings and operating instructions that apply to the identified model.
- Before work begins, confirm that the battery, charger, bit and accessory are compatible with the tool and the planned operation.
- Keep manufacturer figures labeled as ratings; do not present them as independent tests or as proof of a specific drilling speed on your material.
Common identification and buying mistakes
Assuming “compact hammer drill” is a model name
It is a category phrase. Several DEWALT drills fit it, so the title cannot support a model-specific specification.
Using the 2016 DCD796/DCD791 review as the featured video
That Oz Tool Talk video is a separate, dated review. Its model names should not be substituted for an unidentified video’s model.
Assuming a battery is included
The DCD799B page says battery and charger are sold separately. Only the DCD799D1 listing supplies the documented DCB203 battery, DCB112 charger and kit bag.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Quoting one DCD799D1 output number without a qualification
The kit page shows both 404 UWO and 552 UWO in different sections. Preserve that discrepancy or verify the current package documentation instead of presenting a single figure as settled.
Turning a manufacturer rating into a jobsite promise
Up to 585 UWO, 1,650 rpm and 28,050 bpm are DEWALT-listed specifications for the DCD799B. They are not controlled comparative test results and do not, by themselves, establish suitability for a particular masonry task.

For model confirmation and package contents, use the DCD799B tool-only product page and the DCD799D1 kit product page. For control labels and safety information, consult the DCD794/DCD799 instruction manual. DEWALT’s broader hammer-drill catalog confirms that the DCD799 is one model among several in the category. The DCD799B figures cited above were checked on October 13, 2026; product pages and package specifications can change, so verify the current page for the exact suffix you own.
