A deluxe 14-inch bandsaw can offer more resaw height, a larger table, stronger motor, and easier blade changes than a basic 14-inch model—but “deluxe” is not a standardized specification. Compare each saw’s cutting capacity and tested performance against the stock you actually plan to cut, then check its electrical, blade, dust-collection, and shop-layout requirements.

What “deluxe 14-inch” means—and what it does not

The 14-inch designation refers to wheel diameter. Deluxe models generally add capacity and setup conveniences over entry-level saws in the same wheel-size class, while remaining smaller and less costly than many 17-inch-and-larger machines. The label does not guarantee a particular resaw height, motor, fence, or performance level; those vary by model.

For a buyer, the useful question is whether a saw can accept the stock you intend to resaw and make the cut at a manageable feed rate and accuracy. Specification sheets describe limits and included equipment. Comparative tests can help show how particular models performed under stated conditions, but they are not a promise of results with every blade, wood species, setup, or operator.

Start with the stock: resaw height and width

Resaw height determines the board’s maximum standing height

Resaw capacity is the maximum height of stock the saw can accept when the board is positioned on edge. Measure the widest board you realistically expect to slice and compare it with the machine’s published cutting height. A larger capacity gives room for taller stock, but it does not by itself show how easily the saw will cut that stock.

#1 Best Overall
JET 14" Woodworking Band Saw, 1.75 HP, 13" Deep-Cut Resaw Capacity
  • 13" RESAW CAPACITY FOR THICK STOCK - A 1.75 HP capacitor-run motor and 116" blade loop resaw material up to 13" tall in one pass, so you can slice thick slabs into bookmatched panels or veneer without a second machine.
  • GROUND CAST-IRON TABLE, TILTS 0–45° RIGHT - The 360 sq. in. ground cast-iron table tilts 0–45° right on a diecast-and-steel trunnion for bevel cuts. An occasional coat of paste wax on the table keeps stock moving smoothly and helps prevent surface rust.
  • BUILT FOR WOOD & BOARD - Engineered for hardwood, softwood, and manufactured board in home and small production wood shops; this is a woodworking band saw.
  • 14" WHEELS, 1/8"–3/4" BLADE RANGE - Runs 116"-long blades from 1/8" wide for tight scroll cuts to 3/4" wide for fast resawing, with a 13-1/2" throat capacity and independently adjustable ball-bearing blade guides for precision.
  • READY TO CUT, BACKED FOR 5 YEARS - Includes the band saw, steel stand, machined-aluminum resaw fence with easy-read scale, and hardware pack; saw blade is sold separately, and every unit is backed by JET’s 5-year warranty and parts support.

A 2017 WOOD Magazine category review found that its historical steel-frame examples offered 10–14 inches of resaw capacity, while some C-frame examples began at 6 inches; some machines could gain capacity with a riser block. The Jet JWBS-14DXPRO was a C-frame exception with 12 inches standard. These are observations about models tested at that time, not rules that apply to every saw of a given frame style. Verify the current specification for the exact model and revision (WOOD Magazine’s 2017 review).

Cutting width is a separate limit

Cutting width describes how far the blade can cut from the blade to the frame. It is not the same as resaw height. For example, Rikon lists 14 inches of cutting height and 13-5/8 inches of cutting width for its 10-1414. Those dimensions apply to that model only; check both limits against your workpieces (Rikon 10-1414 specifications).

Power and cut quality: read test results in context

Large hardwood resaws place a substantial load on a bandsaw. In WOOD Magazine’s 2025 comparison, cutting 12-inch-and-wider hardwood required significant power. At the publication’s test feed rate, the Grizzly G0817 and Shop Fox W1849 made 14-inch-wide cuts without bogging down; the Jet DXPRO and Powermatic could be stalled. This is comparative evidence from that test, not a guarantee for all cutting conditions (WOOD Magazine’s 2025 comparison).

Rank #2
JET 14-Inch Woodworking Band Saw, 1 HP, 115/230V 1Ph (JWBS-14CS)
  • 6-inch resaw capacity for cutting larger pieces of wood
  • Upper and lower cast iron frame for increased strength and rigidity
  • Blade guide post with rack and pinion adjustment
  • Upper and lower ball bearing guides reduce friction for longer blade life
  • Single knob tracking adjustment simplifies the blade tracking process

Speed and accuracy are distinct considerations. In the same publication’s deliberate-feed test, the Grizzly G0817, Shop Fox W1849, and Grizzly G0555XH had less than .010-inch deviation. The Jet DXPRO’s pieces deviated no more than .030 inch, while the Powermatic showed .125-inch deviation. These measurements describe WOOD Magazine’s setup; blade condition and selection, feed, material, and adjustment can change results.

Before choosing by horsepower alone, check both the motor rating and the available electrical supply. For the Rikon 10-1414, the manufacturer lists a 1-3/4 HP TEFC motor and single-phase 115/230V, 60Hz power with 14/7 amps. Confirm the circuit and wiring requirements for the specific configuration you plan to use; do not assume another 14-inch saw has the same electrical needs.

Compare setup features that affect everyday use

Blade guides, tension, and tracking

Good guides support the blade, but adjustability matters when setting up for different work. WOOD Magazine’s 2025 review found both ball-bearing and steel-disc guides effective and preferred cam-style ball-bearing guides that were easy to adjust. Its blade-change comparison also showed meaningful differences in setup time: changing the Grizzly G0555XH from a 3/4-inch to a 1/4-inch blade setup took 11 minutes, while the Jet SFX took more than twice as long. These are publication test observations, not universal setup times.

Rank #3
WEN (BA1487) Band Saw with Stand,Two-Speed,Black,14-Inch
  • 9.5-amp motor creates cuts up to 8.85 inches deep and 13-3/8 inches wide
  • Uses 100-3/4-inch blades anywhere from 1/8 to 1 inch wide
  • Spacious 21-1/2 x 15-3/4-inch work table bevels up to 45 degrees
  • Operates at two speeds of either 1480 or 3280 FPM
  • Includes a blade tension gauge, a circle cutting guide, a flexible work light, a 3-in-1 dust port, a fence, a 1/2-inch blade, and a miter gauge

Look for clear access to the guides and tension mechanism, and confirm the saw accepts the blade widths you need. The Rikon 10-1414 lists a quick-release tension system, tool-less spring-loaded guides, and a blade range of 3/16–3/4 inch. Its specified blade length is 111 inches, which is model-specific.

Fence and table support

A fence can help guide tall stock, but included equipment and fence height differ. WOOD Magazine noted that most saws in its 2025 comparison included a fence, with the Jet DXPRO an exception. Check the current package rather than assuming a fence is included, and consider whether its height and adjustment suit your resaw work.

Table dimensions, tilt, and height affect support and comfort. The Rikon 10-1414 has a 21-1/2-by-15-3/4-inch table with -7-degree left and 45-degree right tilt. The manufacturer also lists a blade guard with a magnetic door. Treat these as that model’s specifications, not category-wide features.

Rank #4
JET Black 14" Woodworking Band Saw, 1.75 HP, 13" Deep-Cut Resaw Capacity
  • 13" RESAW CAPACITY FOR THICK STOCK - A 1.75 HP capacitor-run motor and 116" blade loop resaw material up to 13" tall in one pass, so you can slice thick slabs into bookmatched panels or veneer without a second machine.
  • JET BLACK COATED CAST-IRON TABLE - The ground cast-iron table’s corrosion-resistant JET Black coating reduces friction so stock glides without wax or polish; the 360 sq. in. surface tilts 0–45° right for bevel cuts.

Voltage, footprint, and dust collection

Before installation, compare the saw’s voltage and amperage with the circuits available in your shop. Measure the machine’s footprint and table height, and leave room for stock infeed and outfeed, blade access, and servicing. Check the dust-port diameter against your hoses and collector; the Rikon 10-1414 has 2-1/2-inch and 4-inch ports.

Dust collection matters for cleanup and blade function. WOOD Magazine’s category review warns that dust on rubber tires can reduce blade grip and recommends connecting dust collection. The ports alone do not establish how well a particular collector will perform: match hose size and collector capacity to the machine and your setup.

Rikon’s comparison page also lists the 10-326, but it is a distinct model with a 13-inch cutting height and different blade speeds. Do not transfer the 10-1414’s figures to the 10-326 or another Rikon bandsaw (manufacturer specifications and comparison).

A practical shortlist checklist

  • Stock capacity: Match published cutting height and width to the largest stock you plan to handle.
  • Power and supply: Check motor rating, voltage, amperage, and circuit availability together.
  • Performance evidence: Distinguish measured resaw speed or bogging from deliberate-feed accuracy; note the test conditions and date.
  • Setup: Compare guide accessibility, tension release, blade tracking adjustment, and the blade widths and length the saw requires.
  • Support: Confirm fence inclusion and height, table dimensions and tilt, and clearance around the saw.
  • Installation and cleanup: Check footprint, table height, port sizes, and compatibility with your dust collector.

Older reviews can explain how the category evolved, but their recommendations and model lineups are historical. WOOD Magazine’s 2017 review named the Laguna 14SUV its top 220-volt performer and the Rikon 10-325 its 110-volt pick at the time; its 2023 review also discussed the Laguna 14SUV’s 14-inch resaw capacity, foot brake, dual dust ports, and built-in mobile base. Those observations are not current comparative recommendations. In its 2025 comparison, WOOD Magazine said it could not test Laguna candidates because of pandemic-related supply issues, so that test does not establish a current Laguna-versus-field result (2017 review; 2023 review; 2025 comparison).
