Dangote Cement’s Gboko Plant has awarded multi-million-naira scholarships to secondary and tertiary students in six Benue host communities and supplied starter packs, working tools and certificates to graduates of its Youth Empowerment Programme. The October 2026 reports do not state the scholarship’s total naira value or the number of current recipients. The beneficiaries are from Tse-Kucha, Quarry, Amua, Mbazembe, Mbatur and Pass Brothers. The activities are presented as part of a five-year Community Development Agreement (CDA) that began in 2025.
What did Dangote Cement award in Benue?
The Gboko Plant’s latest community event combined education funding with post-training livelihood support. Secondary-school and tertiary students from six host communities received scholarships described by contemporaneous October 2026 reports as “multi-million-naira” awards. Graduates of the plant’s Youth Empowerment Programme received starter packs, working tools and certificates so they could apply their training, establish businesses and work toward financial independence.

How much is Dangote Cement giving Benue students?
The 2026 announcement confirms a multi-million-naira scholarship package, but it does not provide a precise total or recipient count. Those two details should not be inferred from earlier awards.
| Programme and year | Amount or recipients reported | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Gboko scholarship, 2026 | Multi-million naira; total not stated | Current reports do not give the total fund or number of awardees. |
| Education scheme, 2025 | ₦28,800,000 and at least 230 students | Figures reported by THISDAY for the 2025 scheme, not the 2026 announcement. |
| Education scheme, 2025 | About ₦30 million | The Guardian described the 2025 increase as from ₦10 million to about ₦30 million; this is a rounded account of the earlier programme. |
The exact 2026 value and beneficiary list would be needed to calculate an average award or verify how funding is distributed among secondary and tertiary recipients.
What did the youth beneficiaries receive?
Youth Empowerment Programme graduates were given three forms of support:

What other empowerment programmes are linked to the Gboko CDA?
NAN’s October 2026 report also says the plant launched a Women Empowerment Programme for 150 beneficiaries and a Farmers Empowerment Programme for 50 beneficiaries. Women were to receive cash support, while farmers were to receive agricultural inputs.

BusinessDay’s May 2026 report described 52 farmers receiving inputs, while NAN later reported 50. Unless Dangote Cement publishes a reconciliation, both figures should be treated as reported counts rather than silently combined or replaced.
How does the five-year community agreement fit in?
BusinessDay reported that the programmes implement a five-year Community Development Agreement beginning in 2025. Its May 2026 account said 150 women would receive cash grants, 52 farmers agricultural inputs and 30 young people skills training, and that a scholarship scheme was expected in the following months. The later scholarship presentation and youth-support distribution are therefore part of a multi-year community plan rather than a standalone announcement.

Who qualifies, and how are beneficiaries selected?
The reports identify the intended scholarship population as indigent students from the six host communities and identify youth recipients as graduates of the plant’s Youth Empowerment Programme. They do not publish an application deadline, household-income threshold, school-year requirement, selection committee, payment schedule or complete beneficiary register. Prospective applicants should therefore seek the plant’s official community liaison or local host-community representatives for current procedures rather than relying on the unquantified news announcement.

The intervention provides tangible inputs: scholarships for students, tools and starter packs for trained youths, cash for women and farm inputs for farmers. However, the October reports do not independently measure school retention, examination performance, business survival, employment, farm yields or household income. Those outcomes would require follow-up data beyond the presentation itself.
