Custom wooden computer mice do exist, but “custom” can mean anything from choosing a wood species to commissioning a shell shaped for your hand. Before buying, confirm what the seller will actually customize, along with dimensions, connection type, compatibility, intended use, finish care, and return terms.
What a wooden computer mouse is—and what “custom” can mean
A functional wooden mouse is still an electronic pointing device: its sensor, switches, and computer connection do the technical work, while wood forms some or all of the housing or controls. That is different from a carved mouse figurine or a wooden mouse pad.
Customization varies. A product may offer a choice of wood, be made after an order is placed, or be designed around a buyer’s grip and requested dimensions. Those are not equivalent. A made-to-order listing does not by itself promise bespoke ergonomics, different button placement, or redesigned electronics.
Examples of wooden mice available from makers
Solid-wood USB optical mouse
iameco describes its D4R as a solid-wood USB optical mouse offered in standard or wireless versions. The manufacturer lists beech, ash, and sapele options and specifies 800 DPI resolution, with automatic adjustment to different desk-surface colors. These are the manufacturer’s specifications, not independent test results. The product page does not clarify whether the wireless version uses Bluetooth or a receiver. Made-to-order wood-and-metal mouse
A Keyboardcrafter Etsy listing describes a handmade wired USB mouse made with solid pine, copper, and aluminium. The seller lists dimensions of 75 mm wide by 115 mm high and states compatibility with Windows and Mac; it also says the mouse is not intended for gaming. The listing’s details and availability are seller-supplied and may change. “Made to order” does not establish that a buyer can request a different hand shape or arbitrary design changes, so ask the seller directly. CNC-milled wooden design
Maker AlestRukov describes a mouse milled from wood bars by CNC and then ground and polished by hand. The maker says it is treated with a linseed-oil-based product and finished with carnauba wax. This describes that maker’s process; it does not establish comparative durability or care requirements for other wooden mice. Read the maker’s information.

How to choose a custom wooden mouse
Confirm what can actually be customized
Ask whether you can choose only the wood, or also the shell dimensions, grip profile, button layout, scroll wheel, and electronics. If fit is the reason you want a custom mouse, share hand measurements or a reference shape and ask the maker to confirm the proposed dimensions before production.
Check connection and compatibility
For a wired model, confirm the connector and cable details. For wireless, ask whether it connects by Bluetooth or requires a USB receiver, and whether that receiver is included. Verify compatibility with your operating system and any device restrictions that matter to your setup.

Match specifications to the work
Look for the sensor specification, dimensions, surface requirements, warranty, and stated intended use on the exact product page. The examples above do not provide a like-for-like performance comparison. If gaming or precision work is important, do not infer suitability from the material or appearance; get the maker’s specific sensor and performance information.
Ask about finish and maintenance
Find out what finish is on the wood and which cleaning products are safe. AlestRukov reports that an office-equipment cleaning product damaged its coating, but that anecdote should not be generalized to every finish. Follow the particular maker’s care instructions rather than assuming a wooden shell can be cleaned like conventional plastic.

Verify terms before placing an order
Because handmade listings and product details can change, check current availability, production time, shipping, return terms, and warranty directly with the seller. Ask whether a custom order can be returned if the finished dimensions or feel do not suit you.

Yes, a documented project shows the basic kind of work involved, though it is an example rather than a current parts guide. Pepijn de Vos began with a clay model and wooden mock-up. In Hackster’s account by Jeremy Cook, the finished build used a Teensy 3.1 for USB HID control, an ADNS-9800 laser sensor, click switches, and an encoder for scrolling. Two wooden halves served as ambidextrous buttons, with a wooden scroll wheel. Read the Hackster project account.
The project illustrates the main design challenge: the wooden body must accommodate and align electronic tracking and input components while remaining usable in the hand. Treat the named parts as components in that historical build, not as a recommendation that they are readily available or the best choice for a new project. A practical build plan needs current component compatibility and sourcing information in addition to woodworking and electronics skills.
