Yes—as a large secondary screen for streaming, the 2024 Amazon Echo Show 21 can do the job. Its 21.4-inch Full-HD display has Fire TV built in, but it is still a smart display rather than a conventional television: Amazon lists a 1920 × 1080 resolution and no HDR support. That makes it a more natural fit for a kitchen or household hub where video is one use among several than as a replacement for a main TV.
What makes the Echo Show 21 more than a large tablet?
Amazon identifies this model as the Echo Show 21 (2024). It combines a 21.4-inch touchscreen with Alexa and Fire TV, so it can show streaming apps and recommendations as well as household information. Amazon also describes support for widgets, photo display, video calls, and control of compatible smart-home devices. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent test results. Amazon’s specification table and 2024 launch announcement provide the product details.
Calling it a “small Fire TV” is a useful shorthand for its streaming role, not a claim that it matches a television in every respect. Amazon lists a 16:9, 1080p panel with 400 nits brightness and explicitly says HDR is unsupported. The official specifications establish those figures, but do not establish how picture quality compares with a particular TV.
How does it compare with a conventional small TV?

For a construction-minded household, placement is a practical consideration: the large display needs a suitable wall location and, if used on a counter, the separate stand. Decide whether you want a fixed household screen or a TV you can place wherever you have a stand and outlet. The Echo Show 21’s appeal is strongest when the same location benefits from both streaming and glanceable household information.

What else can it do around the house?
Household dashboard and calls
Amazon positions the display as an always-available household screen. It can present widgets and photos, support video calls, and let users interact with Alexa. That combination may be more useful than a basic TV in a shared space where people want quick information as well as occasional video.
Compatible smart-home control
Amazon says the integrated smart-home hub supports Matter as a controller and direct connections to Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee devices. Compatibility still depends on the devices and services involved; the specification does not mean every smart-home product will work with it.

Camera and audio hardware
The listed hardware includes a 13-megapixel camera with a 124-degree diagonal field of view, a physical camera cover, and camera and microphone buttons. Audio hardware consists of dual 2-inch woofers and dual 0.6-inch tweeters. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.0 are listed as connectivity options. Those specifications describe components, not a measured ranking of call, speaker, or wireless performance.
What comes in the box, and what costs extra?
Amazon’s US launch announcement said the Echo Show 21 shipped with an Alexa Voice Remote and wall-mounting equipment. The premium adjustable counter stand was optional, as were snap-on frames. Prices below are historical launch prices from 2024, not current retail quotes.

- Consider it if you want a large, fixed household display that can stream video and also handle Alexa, widgets, calls, photos, and compatible smart-home controls.
- Think twice if your main priority is a conventional TV experience, especially HDR, or if you need a screen that is easy to move between rooms.
- Check the setup if you plan to use it on a counter: the stand is separate, while Amazon’s US launch bundle included wall-mounting equipment.
- Check your region for Fire TV app and service availability; Amazon says these vary by region.
Amazon reported that Echo Show 15 users watched seven times more video monthly than users of any other Echo Show device in its 2024 announcement. Amazon did not state the measurement period or methodology on that page, and the comparison was about the Echo Show 15—not evidence of Echo Show 21 viewing habits.
