Enterprise Truck Rental can add temporary capacity when a construction business faces seasonal peaks, short-notice work, or a project that needs vehicles beyond its regular fleet. It is one option alongside owned vehicles and leases—not a proven cost-saving choice for every contractor. The right fit depends on the vehicle, local availability, rental terms, and the work it must do.
When can truck rental fit a construction fleet?
Enterprise describes a blended fleet approach in which a business supplements owned vehicles with leases and short- or long-term rentals as demand changes. That can be relevant when a project creates a temporary need, a seasonal workload rises, or a contractor needs capacity on short notice. Enterprise’s construction article presents this as a flexible fleet strategy, not as an independent cost comparison or a guarantee that renting will be cheaper than owning or leasing. Enterprise’s construction fleet article quotes Brett Vandermeulen, Director of North American Truck Rental for Enterprise Mobility, saying, “Compliance and safety managers now also manage fleets, including maintenance oversight.” It also quotes Gordon Welsh, Corporate Business Development Manager at Enterprise Truck Rental: “Rarely is all ownership, all rental or all leases the right strategy.” [c001]
For a single project or an unpredictable spike in work, compare the cost and operational effort of a rental against other fleet options using your own expected term, mileage, insurance needs, and replacement or maintenance responsibilities. Enterprise Fleet Management is a separate service aimed at longer-term fleet planning and lifecycle support; it is not the same as reserving a rental truck for a project. [c001] [c002]
Which vehicle type should a contractor compare?
Enterprise’s business fleet materials list trucks, cargo vans, medium-duty vehicles, and tow-capable pickups. Its representative FY2024 vehicle sheet includes box trucks, stakebeds, pickups, parcel vans, and cargo vans. The current rental page also lists utility-service trucks and dump trucks. These categories do not establish that a particular vehicle or configuration is available at a given branch; confirm the exact class and setup before booking. [c002] [c005] [c006]

Enterprise Holdings, Inc.’s FY2024 sheet gives these representative payloads. They are specifications from that sheet, not guarantees about current inventory or a particular rental:
| Representative vehicle type | Payload listed by Enterprise Holdings, Inc. (FY2024) | Representative configuration or equipment listed |
|---|---|---|
| 24–26 ft box truck | 9,000–11,000 lb | Tuck-away lift gate |
| 12–16 ft box truck | 4,000–6,000 lb | Tuck-away lift gate |
| 20–24 ft stakebed | 9,000–11,000 lb | Removable sides |
| 12–16 ft stakebed | 4,000–6,000 lb | Removable sides, winch, and load straps |
| 12–15 ft parcel van | 3,000 lb | Optional pullout ramp |
| Pickup | 2,500 lb | Configuration not stated in the FY2024 sheet |
| Cargo van | 2,500 lb | Configuration not stated in the FY2024 sheet |
Payload is only one part of the fit. Match the rental to the cargo and jobsite by checking:
- Cargo and dimensions: what must fit inside or on the vehicle, including length, height, and loading access.
- Payload: the weight the specific rental can carry; confirm the branch’s vehicle specifications rather than relying on a representative sheet.
- Seating and access: the number of people traveling and whether a lift gate, ramp, or other access equipment is needed.
- Towing: whether towing is permitted for that rental type and what capacity applies.
- Jobsite conditions: whether the vehicle’s dimensions and configuration suit the route and intended site.
- Local availability: whether the chosen branch can supply that exact class for the required dates.
Enterprise’s consumer truck page says towing is available on select vehicles through Enterprise Truck Rental locations. It says Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations do not allow towing with their rental vehicles. Ask the truck-rental branch to confirm permission and capacity for the particular vehicle. Likewise, the FY2024 sheet’s load straps apply to its representative 12–16 ft stakebed entry; do not assume straps or other listed equipment come with every rental. [c005] [c006]
How can I make a reservation for a commercial truck or van for my business?
Enterprise’s U.S. FAQ says a new customer can make a reservation online and select “Business Use” as the rental purpose. Existing business-account renters can reserve online or call their local branch, using the account PIN. To request a business account and discuss negotiated commercial rates, contact the local branch. These are Enterprise’s stated reservation options; confirm the process and terms with the branch serving your project. [c003]

Does Enterprise Truck Rental rent CDL trucks or tractors?
Enterprise’s U.S. FAQ says its light- and medium-duty truck, van, and pickup rentals do not require a CDL, while directing customers to check state or provincial rules. That statement does not establish the licensing requirement for every vehicle, load, or jurisdiction. Verify the applicable rules for the specific vehicle and use before sending a driver. [c004]

Enterprise’s pages give different network counts: its undated business fleet page says more than 480 Enterprise Truck Rental locations across North America, while its undated U.S. truck FAQ says over 500 locations. Treat these as separate claims rather than a single precise count. Use Enterprise’s location finder to check coverage for the project’s market and confirm the specific vehicle with the local branch.
