Construction is underway on Statesboro’s first Kroger Marketplace, a planned 99,000-square-foot store at the northeast corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Cypress Lake Road. Kroger’s Atlanta Division announced a $45.7 million investment and is targeting a fall 2027 opening; that timing is an estimate, not a guaranteed date.
Where is the new Kroger being built?
The store is planned for the northeast corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Cypress Lake Road. Has construction started, and when is the opening?
Yes. Kroger reported starting construction in August 2026, and community leaders, construction partners and Kroger representatives held a ceremonial groundbreaking on October 21, 2026. WTOC reported the ceremony the following day. Construction was expected to take about a year, with the store targeted to open in fall 2027. The Kroger is expected to anchor a 21-acre shopping center with four outparcels and 10,850 square feet of additional retail space. Southeastern Development representatives Chris Senn and Daniel Holloway are co-developing the center and handling leasing and marketing for those additional spaces. Why do project reports list two different store sizes?
The city’s 2025 preliminary planning packet gave a figure of 99,992 square feet, while Kroger’s 2026 public announcement described the planned store as 99,000 square feet. The newer announcement’s rounded figure is the current public description.
