Construction continues on the Iowa 175 bridge over I-29 at Exit 112 near Onawa, according to an October 5, 2026 report matching this update’s title. Its available excerpt says ramp work is expected to begin in the 2027 construction season, starting with both ramps north of Iowa 175. No specific start dates are given.
Which bridge is under construction?
The project is the Iowa 175 bridge over I-29 at Exit 112, west of Onawa. In a November 13, 2025 notice, the Iowa Department of Transportation said the existing bridge had been struck by an oversized, overweight load, with earlier strikes and repairs also noted. At that time, the agency anticipated replacing it in 2026.
When will the ramps be built?
The October 5, 2026 report’s available search excerpt says ramp construction is expected to start during the 2027 construction season, beginning with both ramps north of Iowa 175. The excerpt does not provide exact dates or a complete ramp-work sequence. The report page was not available to inspect, so these details are limited to what its excerpt states.
How does this differ from the earlier maintenance work?
Iowa DOT’s March 5, 2026 notice described maintenance on the bridge, not the full replacement schedule. It planned a closure from March 16 through March 30, weather permitting, with marked detours and head-to-head traffic on I-29. The notice anticipated maintenance completion by May 1, 2026, weather permitting. Those were past plans and do not establish current traffic conditions or the timing of replacement construction.

The available update and Iowa DOT notices do not establish the replacement’s current construction milestone, cost, contractor, detailed design, exact ramp dates or full completion date. The October report excerpt confirms continued construction and gives a broad ramp-work timeframe, but not a complete project schedule.
