Ecocem ACT and CHRYSO EnviroMix 3150 ACT are a co-developed cement-and-admixture system, not a published ready-to-use concrete recipe. Engineers should qualify it for the project through supplier-supported laboratory and plant trials; the public announcement does not provide a system-specific dosage or mix design.

What the ACT and EnviroMix 3150 ACT system is

The combination pairs Ecocem ACT, a low-carbon cement technology, with CHRYSO EnviroMix 3150 ACT, a superplasticizer developed by CHRYSO and Ecocem for use with ACT. Ecocem describes ACT as using low-carbon raw materials already approved by cement and concrete standards, together with chemical additions for rheology and activation. The technology is designed for concrete with a low water-to-cement ratio.

This is a binder-and-admixture system for concrete formulation and production—not a prescriptive mix design. Public information does not provide batch quantities, aggregate grading, water-to-binder ratio, admixture dosage, mixing sequence, temperature limits, or curing regime for the combined system. Do not treat mix examples or dosages for other CHRYSO products as guidance for ACT.

What performance has been reported—and what it establishes

In its announcement dated 1 October 2026, Ecocem reported that mix designs combining ACT and EnviroMix 3150 ACT can achieve over 50% lower concrete carbon footprint, described by the company as corresponding to GWR5 classification and beyond. The announcement also reports high flowability and low viscosity at low water-to-cement ratios, robustness to water-content variation, and more than 90 minutes of workability retention, extendable without segregation. These are supplier-reported results; the announcement does not fully specify the reference mix, calculation boundaries, test methods, or project mix data needed to reproduce them independently.

  • Easy Mixing & Uniform Dispersion: Designed for seamless integration into batch or continuous mixing processes.
  • Versatile Applications: infrastructure such as roads, retaining walls, and water-retaining structures DIY projects such as driveways, patios, and garden structures.

Ecocem separately describes ACT as having potential to reduce cement carbon by 70%. That is a company-level technology claim, distinct from the reported over-50% reduction for concrete mixes using the combined ACT and EnviroMix system; the two figures should not be treated as interchangeable.

What the UK project example shows

The 1 October 2026 announcement identifies the refurbishment of the former John Lewis headquarters in London as an application. Ecocem reports that C20/25 and C30/37 mixes were developed for the project, with 90-minute workability retention and “excellent pumpability” using EnviroMix 3150 ACT. It forecasts that nearly 1,300 m³ of low-carbon concrete will have been poured by the end of 2026; that is a forward-looking figure in the dated announcement, not confirmation that the volume was completed.

Akona Concrete Bonding Additive, 1 Quart, Liquid Cement Bonder
  • CONCRETE BONDING AGENT: Enhances strength and adhesion
  • LIQUID: Mix with concrete, sand mortar and cement mixes
  • ADDITIVE: This product is added to mixes - it is not intended to be used on its own
  • ACRYLIC FORTIFIER: Increases resistance strength, adds resistance to cold temperatures

The announcement does not publish the project batch recipes, test tables, exposure classes, or acceptance records. The example therefore demonstrates reported use in two strength classes, but does not provide proportions or performance criteria that can be copied into another project.

How to develop a project mix

Set project requirements first, then qualify the combination with the actual materials, plant, and placement conditions. Ecocem and CHRYSO describe technical assistance for mix formulation and optimization, but do not publish a universal recipe.

2 Pack Concrete Cement Fiber Additive, Mortar Anti Seepage Fiber Reinforcem
  • Package Content: you will get 2 packs of concrete, each pack is about 2.2 pound per cubic yard (27 cubic feet); Add more for high impact or severe freeze or thaw areas
  • To Avoid Cracks: mixing glass fiber and mortar to enhance the toughness of the mortar, so to avoid the formation of fine cracks
  • Anti Seepage for Cement: these fibers for concrete reinforcement are good at increasing cement density, so they can reduce infiltration to some extent, can be widely applied to countertop, exterior wall and other decorative or reinforcement uses
  • Impact Resistant Concrete Fibers: the fibers are light but strong, which can increase the vibration resistance of the cement, suitable for strengthening cement projects
  • Using Tips: just blend sand, cement and fibers for concrete, then add the right amount of water, and stir evenly; Please note that the mixing time is 30 to 60 seconds longer than the time of stirring without glass fiber
  1. Define the performance brief. Specify strength class and test age, exposure and durability requirements, workability at discharge and placement, retention time, pumping or placement needs, setting and finishing windows, and curing and stripping constraints. Consider resistance, durability class, workability maintenance, and setting time alongside carbon impact.
  2. Confirm materials and production conditions. Identify the exact ACT product and its documentation. Characterize aggregate grading and moisture, water quality, other additions, batching tolerances, expected temperature, mixing energy and order, transport time, and the intended admixture addition sequence.
  3. Agree trial methods and acceptance criteria. Establish a reference mix and trial the combined system against the project brief. Agree measurement methods and pass criteria with the responsible engineer and supplier; the public system announcement does not state its test methods or thresholds.
  4. Measure fresh-concrete behavior. Record workability and retention, segregation or bleeding, and pumpability or placement behavior under relevant conditions. Include setting and finishing observations where they affect the project.
  5. Verify hardened performance. Test early-age and specified-age strength, then assess project-relevant durability indicators. Relate curing and temperature conditions to the acceptance plan rather than assuming results from another mix will transfer.
  6. Confirm plant-scale performance. After laboratory trials, validate the selected formulation with the production plant and intended delivery and placement conditions. Track actual aggregate moisture and water additions, and document the approved batch procedure and any adjustment limits.

Dosage, water control, and conventional superplasticizers

No dosage range or target water-to-cement ratio for the ACT and EnviroMix 3150 ACT combination is published in the reviewed system announcement. Ecocem’s statement that ACT is designed for low water-to-cement ratios is context, not a numerical target. Determine water and admixture proportions empirically through supplier-supported trials, accounting for aggregate moisture and batching variation.

The available information also does not establish that a conventional or unrelated superplasticizer is compatible with ACT, or specify how its dosage would compare. Do not assume interchangeability: confirm compatibility and performance with the binder supplier and admixture supplier, then validate the proposed combination in trials. The same applies to any proposed change in dosage, addition sequence, or constituent materials.

How to assess the carbon claim fairly

Compare alternatives only at equivalent required strength, durability, workability, and service-life assumptions, using the same functional unit and clearly stated carbon-calculation boundary. Account for relevant differences in binder, aggregate, and transport data. CHRYSO’s EnviroMix Impact tool is described as allowing users to compare mix carbon and vary cement, aggregate, and transport levers; it does not replace project-specific inputs or a clearly defined comparison basis.

Because the public joint announcement does not provide its reference mix or full calculation boundary, its over-50% figure is not enough by itself to predict savings for a particular project. Ask for the comparison basis, embodied-carbon data sources, and calculation scope for the proposed mix.

Assessment documents and project approval

EOTA identifies Ecocem ACT under European Technical Assessment ETA 23/0877, version 2, issued 26 March 2026. The generic product description is blended cements with high filler content, ground granulated blast-furnace slag or pozzolanic material or both, and clinker. Ecocem also says ACT has obtained a French ETPM.

An ETA is not a universal approval of every concrete mix, application, or jurisdiction. Ecocem notes that cement standards are harmonized under EN 197 in the EU, while concrete standards remain largely national. Before specification, verify the exact supplied product and declared characteristics, applicable assessment documents and national provisions, project specification, exposure class, and required strength and durability criteria with the supplier and specifier.

Availability and technical support

Confirm that the ACT product and EnviroMix 3150 ACT are available for the project location, and establish who will support mix design, testing, production trials, and documentation. Ecocem describes laboratory and on-site testing support, including temperature-match curing and temperature monitoring, with guidance on mix design and exposure classes. CHRYSO describes technical assistance and mix optimization; availability varies by country.

CHRYSO’s 2024 avoided-emissions methodology includes C30 and C50 trial examples for other cement-and-admixture combinations. Those examples illustrate the importance of trial conditions but are not recipes or dosage recommendations for ACT and EnviroMix 3150 ACT.
