The construction-bolts market is expanding, but its reported size depends heavily on what each publisher counts. Grand View Research puts global construction-bolt revenue at USD 6.65 billion in 2023, while MarkWide Research estimates USD 18.7 billion in 2026 and projects USD 31.06 billion by 2035. HTF Market Intelligence reports USD 8.76 billion in 2025 and USD 13.92 billion in 2034. These figures should be read as separate market definitions, not added together. Treatment is a related value chain: coating services, equipment, chemicals and the broader surface-treatments market each have their own published boundaries and forecasts.
How large is the construction-bolts market?
Published estimates show sustained growth through the 2027–2036 period, but the forecasts are not directly interchangeable. They use different product scopes, geographies, inclusion rules and base years.

| Publisher | Market measured | Starting value and year | Forecast value and year | Published CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grand View Research | Global construction bolts | USD 6.65 billion (2023) | Forecast period 2024–2030 | 5.5% |
| MarkWide Research | Construction bolts | USD 18.7 billion (2026) | USD 31.06 billion (2035) | 5.8% for 2026–2036 |
| HTF Market Intelligence | Construction bolts | USD 8.76 billion (2025) | USD 13.92 billion (2034) | 5.3% |
The most defensible conclusion is a mid-single-digit growth market rather than a single universally accepted dollar total. Grand View Research also reports that non-residential applications generated 74.7% of construction-bolt revenue in 2023, underscoring the importance of commercial buildings, industrial facilities and infrastructure.
What counts as a construction bolt?

Selection is an engineering decision. The specification normally has to identify geometry, diameter, steel grade, strength class, thread, installation method and required preload. Exposure to moisture, salts, chemicals or elevated temperatures then determines whether an untreated, plated, galvanized or other coated finish is appropriate.
Why treatment systems are part of the bolt value chain
A treatment system is more than a final coat. It can include incoming cleaning, abrasive blasting, chemical pretreatment, deposition, curing, inspection and the chemicals and equipment needed to run those operations. The treatment choice affects corrosion resistance, service life, installation behavior and compliance obligations.

Which coating is best for construction bolts?
There is no universal best coating. The correct system balances the corrosion environment with mechanical performance, installation requirements, environmental rules and total installed cost.
| System or finish | Where it fits in the decision |
|---|---|
| Hot-dip galvanizing and other galvanized finishes | Primary options when a zinc-based corrosion barrier is required for construction or infrastructure exposure. |
| Zinc plating | Another zinc-based corrosion-protection route; suitability depends on the specified environment and performance requirements. |
| Ceramic and polymer coatings | Organic or inorganic alternatives considered when the project specification calls for a nontraditional protective layer. |
| Epoxy, PTFE and other organic coatings | Systems selected for their specified chemical, friction or environmental performance; the exact formulation must be verified with the supplier. |
| Phosphating and conversion coatings | Pretreatment or conversion steps that can form part of a larger coating process. |
| Thermal spray, PVD and CVD | Deposited surface treatments used where the process and performance specification justify specialized equipment. |
For high-strength fasteners, the procurement review must explicitly address hydrogen-embrittlement risk. Friction and torque-tension behavior also matter: a coating can change the relationship between applied torque and achieved preload, so installation values cannot be copied from an uncoated bolt without confirmation.

How big is the treatment-systems opportunity?
Treatment-related estimates describe different layers of the value chain and must remain separate from bolt revenue.
| Segment and publisher | Starting market | Forecast market | Published CAGR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fastener-coating services — GlobalInfoResearch | USD 1.487 billion (2025) | USD 2.133 billion (2032) | 5.3% |
| Surface-treatment equipment — Exactitude Consultancy | USD 7.3454 billion (2025) | USD 11.5532 billion (2035) | 4.6% |
| Surface-treatment chemicals — Grand View Research | USD 16.8 billion (2025); USD 17.8 billion (2026) | USD 27.0 billion (2033) | 6.2% |
| Surface treatments overall — Global Market Insights | USD 45.6 billion (2025) | USD 80.1 billion (2035) | 5.8% |
The different growth rates suggest that chemistry, equipment, outsourced coating and the all-in surface-treatment market are moving at different speeds. They should not be combined into one “treatment systems” total.
How project buyers should specify bolts and treatment
- Define the assembly: Record bolt type, diameter, length, thread, steel grade, strength class and whether the connection is structural, anchored or otherwise load-bearing.
- Set the exposure class: Describe moisture, salt, chemicals, temperature and expected service life rather than simply asking for a “rustproof” bolt.
- Choose the treatment family: Compare galvanized, zinc-plated, ceramic, polymer, epoxy, phosphated, PTFE or other specified systems against the exposure and installation method.
- Check mechanical and installation effects: Confirm hydrogen-embrittlement controls for high-strength parts and obtain coating-specific torque-tension or preload instructions.
- Verify standards and approvals: Match the regional construction, structural and environmental requirements before ordering; requirements vary by jurisdiction and project owner.
- Evaluate total installed cost: Include pretreatment, coating, inspection, handling, replacement risk and field installation—not just the unit price of the bolt.
- Confirm supply capability: Check dimensions, batch traceability, lead time, approved finish and the supplier’s ability to support the full project quantity.
Key risks and common purchasing mistakes
- Quoting one market-size number without stating the publisher, base year and market boundary.
- Combining bolt revenue with treatment chemicals, equipment or services.
- Choosing a coating by color or nominal corrosion label without defining the exposure.
- Using uncoated-bolt torque tables for a coated high-strength connection.
- Overlooking hydrogen embrittlement controls during electroplating or other treatment steps.
- Accepting a supplier name without checking regional approvals, process certification and actual capacity.
Outlook for 2027–2036
Across the construction-bolt forecasts, reported growth clusters between 5.3% and 5.8% a year. Treatment services and the broader surface-treatments market are also forecast to grow at about 5.3% and 5.8%, while equipment is projected at 4.6% and chemicals at 6.2%. That combination points to continuing demand for both fasteners and the processes that extend their service life, with the strongest opportunities tied to non-residential construction, infrastructure and projects that require documented corrosion and installation performance.
