It is a rollable Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM): a fibre matrix containing a dry cementitious mix with a PVC backing. After it is positioned and secured, water hydrates the mix and it hardens into a thin concrete layer. The manufacturer describes the process as “Concrete on a Roll™,” but hydration is only one part of installation.
What Concrete Canvas is—and is not
Concrete Canvas is an industrial construction material for applications such as erosion control and weed suppression, not a freestanding shelter. Its flexible composite can be laid over a prepared surface, secured, and hydrated to create a thin concrete lining. See the manufacturer’s product page for its material description.
It should not be confused with poured concrete or treated as an interchangeable substitute for every concrete structure. Project suitability depends on the required performance, surface shape, access, grade and installation conditions.
How installation works
- Unroll and position: Lay the mat where the lining or protection is required, following the product-specific installation guidance.
- Secure it: Fix the material in place as required for the site and application before hydration.
- Hydrate it: Apply water according to the manufacturer’s hydration guide. Once hydrated, the cementitious mix begins to set.
Concrete Canvas Ltd. states that there is a two-hour working window before setting begins and that the material reaches service performance specifications in 24 hours. These are manufacturer statements, not independently reproduced test results; use the applicable guide and current technical documentation for the product and project.

Where the material is used
The manufacturer lists these typical applications:
- Channel, culvert and irrigation-canal lining
- Slope and railway embankment protection
- Bund lining and emergency containment bund surfacing
- Remediation and outfall protection
- Mining vent walls
- Gabion covering and pipe protection
- Weed suppression
These uses describe the manufacturer’s stated applications; they do not establish that any particular grade is suitable for every site or design.
Choosing a type and roll format
The T-series product page identifies CCT1, CCT2 and CCT3 as corresponding to ASTM D8364 Types I, II and III. The manufacturer lists different roll coverage by type, so “Concrete Canvas” should not be treated as one universal specification.

Coverage figures are those shown on the manufacturer’s product page; check its current technical data before specifying or ordering. The manufacturer’s surfaced data sheet, version 2103.01.EN, gives dimensions, area and mass per unit area for CC5, CC8 and CC13. Confirm the current revision with the manufacturer before procurement or engineering decisions.
Selection should account for the required type and specification, thickness, mass per unit area, roll coverage, access to the work area, surface geometry and project requirements. Consult a regional supplier or the manufacturer for site-specific selection.

Performance claims and their scope
Concrete Canvas Ltd. publishes several performance and durability claims. They are company-reported figures, with the qualifications below; the page does not establish that they apply to every project.
- Carbon: The manufacturer claims typical CO₂e savings of 60% with CCT2 compared with conventional concrete solutions in the UK. The claim is not a universal result.
- Design life: The company states a minimum design life of 120 years for erosion-control applications. Its FAQ separately reports durability in excess of 120 years for erosion control and cites BBA certification.
- Installation speed: The UK product page says installation can reach 200 m² per hour and describes it as 10 times faster than traditional concrete. The page does not detail the site conditions or comparison basis for those figures.

- Confirm the required product type and current technical specification.
- Check the relevant hydration and installation guidance, including the working window and site sequence.
- Assess the surface, access and securing requirements for the particular application.
- Ask the manufacturer or a regional supplier to confirm suitability for the project rather than relying on general marketing figures.
