No. ColdSnap says its pods are stored at room temperature, and most have a shelf life of six to nine months. The company cautions that storage above 75°F can negatively affect shelf life and says not to freeze the pods. Check the storage guidance and date on the specific product.
What can you make, and what is in a serving?
ColdSnap lists premium dairy ice cream, oat-based and other non-dairy products, frozen lattes, smoothies, protein shakes, and boozy frozen treats. Nutrition varies by flavor: the company identifies its premium ice cream as 14% milkfat and says some boozy ice creams are approximately 2% ABV. ColdSnap also reports that its testing found average ice crystals 40% smaller than those in traditional store-bought ice cream, attributing the comparison to testing at the University of Wisconsin’s Frozen Dessert Center. That is a company-reported result; the underlying university report is not available here for independent review, so it should not be read as a verified head-to-head finding.
What does the machine cost, and what does ownership involve?
ColdSnap’s current site lists the machine and pods, but prices and stock can change. In 2025, HomePage News reported a machine price of $1,950 and pod 12-packs priced at $45–$51. The Boston Globe reported the same machine price, with most 12-packs about $45 and some specialty packs at $51. The pods are exclusive to ColdSnap’s platform, according to the company. That makes branded pods a continuing cost and means the appliance’s usefulness depends on compatible pods being available. That figure describes the network targeted by the agreement, not the number of machines deployed; the report did not disclose rollout targets or machine pricing terms.
