Cockburn Surf Park is now expected to open to the public in late 2027, according to developer Aventuur. Construction commenced in early 2026, and the developer plans to deliver its first waves in Spring 2027. The often-repeated 2025 date was an early target—not a confirmed opening date—and Aventuur has not announced an exact day.

Why was Cockburn Surf Park’s launch date reported as 2025?

The 2025 date came from early project expectations. In June 2022, the Western Australian Government said the attraction was anticipated to open for summer 2025, subject to local planning and environmental approvals. In October 2022, PerthNow quoted Aventuur chairman Andrew Ross saying the team hoped to welcome the public by Christmas 2025. The wording was an aspiration, not a confirmed launch date. The state announcement and PerthNow’s report document those early expectations.

Subsequent published schedules changed: the City of Cockburn reported a late-2025 target in August 2023, while Surfing WA said in May 2024 the park was expected to open in 2026. Aventuur’s current project page, accessed 8 October 2026, gives the latest published estimate: public opening in late 2027. City of Cockburn, 2023; Surfing WA, 2024; Aventuur’s Perth Surf Park page.

What is the current construction and opening schedule?

Aventuur says construction commenced in early 2026. Its current schedule identifies Spring 2027 for the first waves and late 2027 for the expected public opening. These are developer forecasts, not a booked opening date; the page does not specify an exact day or when bookings will begin. Check the Aventuur project page for updates.

Where is the Perth Surf Park being built?

The project site is on Prinsep Road in Jandakot, beside Cockburn Central station and the Kwinana Freeway. Aventuur estimates the location is about 25 minutes from Perth CBD and 30 minutes from Perth Airport; these are the developer’s approximate travel times, not guaranteed journey durations. Aventuur’s location information and the City’s project announcement identify the Jandakot site.

What is planned for the $100 million development?

The City of Cockburn’s 2024/25 annual-report version describes the project as a $100 million development. That is the City’s reported project-cost description, not a newly verified final construction cost. Aventuur presents the proposal as a broader sporting, leisure, entertainment and tourism destination built around a surf lagoon. City of Cockburn 2024/25 Annual Report; Aventuur.

The developer’s current plan includes:

  • A Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoon with 62 modules.
  • A surf academy, surf hire store and surf-focused retail. Aventuur says the hire store is planned to offer boards, wetsuits, surf hardware and accessories.
  • Wellness and fitness facilities, a beach club, dining and event spaces.
  • Community facilities and rooftop glamping cabins.

These are proposed facilities; the project page does not confirm that every amenity will be operating when the park first opens. Final visitor pricing for sessions, lessons, memberships and other experiences has not been published; Aventuur says pricing will be announced closer to construction completion and first waves.

What approvals have been granted?

The City of Cockburn says the Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel granted development approval on 20 March 2023. The City also reports that federal and state environmental agencies advised that no further environmental review was required. Approval does not remove the need to meet conditions or obtain separate permits and licences: the City identifies requirements involving revegetation, native fauna management and water management, as well as clearing permits and water licences. How many jobs is the project expected to create?

Published employment estimates differ by source and date, so they should not be combined or read as jobs already delivered. In its 2022 lease announcement, the Western Australian Government estimated up to 260 jobs during planning and construction and about 65 full-time-equivalent operational positions. Aventuur’s current project page estimates more than 280 construction jobs and about 100 full-time-equivalent operational roles. Both sets of figures are forecasts from their respective publishers.
