The upgraded facility reopened on 16 December 2024, and the City later reported strong early attendance and several awards for the completed project.
Why the City redeveloped Hamersley
When approving the project in April 2023, the City described Hamersley as a popular public 18-hole course with ageing infrastructure that could not meet contemporary standards or additional community demand. The City said the course had attracted more than 100,000 visitors in the preceding year and that demand for the driving range was growing among golfers and non-golfers.
The City also described the 48-hectare site as important to local tree canopy, with hundreds of mature trees and the City’s tree nursery. Its stated aim was to renew a public asset and broaden its appeal—not to create an elite country-club environment. The course is directly managed by the City, and revenue supports its annual maintenance and management. The City’s April 2023 approval announcement sets out this rationale and the original scope.
What the redevelopment delivered
The completed project brought together golf practice, course facilities, hospitality and public art. The City described the redevelopment as a $20 million investment. Its March 2025 project update describes the finished facility and early usage.

It evenly spreads topdressing materials, fills small low spots, and creates a smooth surface for seeding or planting. Perfect for regular lawn care and professional landscaping projects, it ensures an even surface that supports healthy lawn growth.
- Durable Construction with Premium Materials: Made from high grade steel, this topsoil spreader rake is extremely durable and rust-resistant for long-term outdoor use. Full welding technology strengthens the joints, ensuring they won't easily loosen or break over time. The powder-coated finish adds an extra layer of protection. Built to handle large landscaping jobs with ease, this tool maintains stable performance.
- Flexible Sizes and Adjustable Design: This versatile sand leveling rake is available in three ground plate sizes: 17"x10", 30"x10", and 45"x10", so you can choose based on your needs. Long adjustable handle lengths (6.7ft and 7ft) accommodate different user heights and help minimize bending. The head angle adjusts from 0°–90°, making it easier to use in both tight space and large open areas. Works well on Bermuda, Kentucky Bluegrass, Ryegrass, St. Augustine, Fescue, and other common grass types.
- Effort-Saving Operation with Easy Assembly: Assembly is simple with the included instruction and tools. The long ergonomic handle allows you to cover more ground with less bending, makes yard work more comfortable. This ground leveler works as a golf rake for sand, a topsoil spreader for garden beds, and a lawn leveler for yards and farms. Its balanced design and optimized weight ensure smooth, stable operation when leveling soil, sand, compost, or gravel in any outdoor space.
- Compact Storage and Simple Maintenance: This lawn level tool can be easily disassembled into sections for compact storage in your shed or garage, saving space when not in use. The rust-resistant steel frame and powder-coated surface are easy to clean and maintain after use, keeping the tool in top condition. Heavy duty and durable, it is suitable for most soil leveling, sand & gravel spreading, and topdressing projects in lawns, gardens, golf courses, or farms.
- Driving range: A two-storey, automated facility with 30 bays, Inrange ball tracking, digital simulation games, screens and seating at each bay. It was designed as a fully licensed, entertainment-focused range, with food and drink service from Caddy’s bar and kiosk.
- Pavilion and hospitality: The upgraded pavilion includes a bar, restaurant and function space. The City’s 2025 update identifies the venue as Sunny Social and describes its capacity as 500 people.
- Golf facilities: A pro shop includes a putting simulator, while a separate virtual-reality golf simulator room formed part of the original approved scope.
- Access and public realm: The works included car-park and access improvements. The City reported 71 additional parking bays and a public-art installation by Pamela Gaunt in collaboration with Apparatus, inspired by the flowering cycle of the course’s tuart trees.
The City’s reopening announcement described timed bay bookings at that point. That historical detail is not a current booking guide; visitors should check the venue’s latest information before planning a visit.

What the City reported about early use
In its March 2025 update, the City reported about 132,000 visitors during the first three months after reopening. It said the new range received 32,000 visits and that visitors hit three million balls there over the same period. These are figures reported by the City, not independently measured attendance results.

At approval in 2023, the City forecast that more energy-efficient lighting and equipment would reduce emissions by 25 per cent. The official project sources cited here present that as an expectation; they do not establish a verified post-completion emissions reduction.
