Short answer: Chamberlain announced the myQ Secure View 3-in-1 Smart Lock on January 6, 2026. Its advertised myQ Smart Secure feature can lock the front door and trigger a compatible myQ garage opener to close when the system detects a person during user-selected times. However, “stranger detection” overstates the confirmed capability: myQ describes detecting a person, not reliably identifying an unknown or threatening individual.
What Chamberlain announced
The myQ Secure View combines three functions in one entry device: a smart deadbolt, a video doorbell and a security camera. It is controlled through the myQ app and supports five advertised unlocking methods: face access, fingerprint, PIN, smartphone app and physical key. Chamberlain Group announced the product on January 6, 2026.

The “3-in-1” label refers to the lock, doorbell and camera. It does not mean the front-door hardware contains three locks, nor does it replace the garage-door opener.
How the door-and-garage automation works
Under the advertised setup, the sequence is:
- The lock’s camera or connected detection system identifies a person.
- The homeowner chooses preset times when the automation should operate.
- The system proactively locks the front door.
- It signals a compatible myQ-enabled garage opener to close the garage door.
That is a configured automation, not an unconditional guarantee that both openings will always secure themselves. It depends on the lock’s battery, Wi-Fi connection, myQ account and cloud service, detection settings, and a compatible garage setup.

The available product language says “detects a person,” not “recognizes a stranger.” A person-detection system may classify an object as a person, but that does not establish whether the individual is authorized, familiar, attempting entry or acting maliciously.
Person detection is not stranger recognition
These terms describe different capabilities:
| Term | What it generally means |
|---|---|
| Motion detection | The camera detected movement. |
| Person detection | Software classified the moving object as a person. |
| Face access | A biometric unlocking method that may recognize an enrolled face. |
| Stranger recognition | A much stronger claim that the system knows someone is unfamiliar or unauthorized. |
myQ’s pages support person detection and describe optional AI categories such as people, vehicles, animals and faces. They do not establish that Secure View can definitively identify strangers, detect criminal intent or distinguish every resident from every visitor.
Key specifications
- Video: 2K resolution with color night vision.
- Viewing angle: 150 degrees.
- Audio: Two-way talk through an integrated speaker and microphone.
- Wireless: 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- Power: Rechargeable 8,500-mAh lithium-ion battery charged through USB-C.
- Battery estimate: Up to six months under myQ’s stated typical-use assumptions—approximately 10 lock/unlock cycles and 10 video events per day, along with some live streams and doorbell presses.
- Warranty: One year.
- Exterior dimensions: Approximately 2.95 × 3.84 × 6.85 inches.
- Interior dimensions: Approximately 2.76 × 2.99 × 7.87 inches.
- Operating temperature: Approximately −4°F to 140°F outside and 14°F to 113°F inside, according to the detailed product listing.
The six-month figure is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently verified result. Frequent video activity, poor Wi-Fi signal, cold weather or repeated locking can reduce actual runtime.

The physical key remains an important fallback. The product listing also says a 9-volt battery can be connected to emergency power terminals to provide temporary power, after which the user can operate the lock with an electronic credential.
Because this device adds a camera and doorbell to the lock, battery maintenance matters more than it would with a simple offline deadbolt. A spare rechargeable battery may also reduce downtime while the installed battery is charging.

Subscription requirements
myQ says a subscription is not required for basic camera operation after the 30-day free trial. Live video streaming and motion notifications are described as remaining available without a subscription.
The paid Video Monitoring Plan adds enhanced AI-driven notifications and detection features, including face, person, animal and vehicle detection, plus up to 30 days of recorded video history. Because the product pages associate advanced AI detection with the plan, buyers should verify whether the specific Smart Secure door-and-garage automation requires that subscription at checkout and during setup. It would be inaccurate to assume that every detection-based feature is free simply because basic live video is available without a plan.

Door compatibility and installation
Secure View is designed for standard entry doors with a deadbolt. myQ states that it is not compatible with storm doors or glass doors. It should not be treated as a universal replacement for every existing lock.
Before buying, check the manufacturer’s installation requirements, including door thickness, backset, deadbolt configuration, interior clearance and trim geometry. The camera’s view also depends heavily on mounting height and the layout of the porch or entryway.
What garage equipment is required?
The automatic closing feature requires a myQ-enabled garage opener. If the existing opener is not natively myQ-compatible, a Chamberlain Smart Garage Control may connect certain openers instead.

Chamberlain says Smart Garage Control works with most brands manufactured after 1993 when they use compatible photoelectric safety sensors that do not shut off. That is not a guarantee for every opener. Confirm the exact model, wiring and sensor configuration before relying on the garage automation.
There are three practical scenarios:
- An already myQ-enabled opener can participate after account and device setup.
- A compatible existing opener may work through Smart Garage Control.
- An unsupported opener cannot be assumed to work simply because it is branded Chamberlain or another well-known manufacturer.
Automatic closing is not a substitute for garage safety
A garage door should close only when its safety sensors and installation are operating correctly. Person detection can be incomplete, and the camera may not see a child, pet, vehicle, package or object outside its useful field of view. It may also miss someone approaching from the side or obscured by a vehicle, porch structure or darkness.
A weak 2.4-GHz connection, broadband outage, low battery, cloud-service problem or disconnected garage controller could prevent the action. The front door could lock while the garage remains open if the opener connection fails. Users should continue maintaining the door, opener and photoelectric sensors and should not treat this feature as an alarm, professional monitoring service or guaranteed intrusion-prevention system.
Privacy and biometric considerations
Secure View puts a camera, doorbell, smart lock and cloud-connected app at the entrance. Buyers should establish:
- Whether video is stored locally or in the cloud.
- How long recordings and access events are retained.
- Who can view video or operate the lock.
- How household members and guests are enrolled.
- How face and fingerprint data are processed, stored and protected.
According to myQ, face access and fingerprint recognition are unavailable in Illinois, Texas and outside the United States and Canada. That is a product availability statement from myQ, not a complete explanation of all applicable biometric or privacy laws.

Price and ongoing costs
Official myQ pages displayed inconsistent prices: one showed $199.99, while another showed $249.99 discounted from $279.99. Prices and promotions can change, so verify the live checkout price before purchasing rather than relying on either figure.
Also account for possible subscription costs, a compatible garage accessory, installation and replacement batteries. The hardware’s value is strongest for households that already use the myQ ecosystem and want one device to combine access control, video and doorbell functions.
Secure View versus a conventional smart lock
| Consideration | myQ Secure View | Conventional smart lock |
|---|---|---|
| Access | App, PIN, key and advertised face and fingerprint options | Usually app, PIN, key or model-specific biometrics |
| Video and doorbell | Integrated 2K camera and doorbell | Usually requires separate devices |
| Garage automation | Designed around myQ-compatible equipment | Often requires third-party integrations |
| Subscription exposure | Basic camera functions advertised without a plan; enhanced detection may require one | Varies by manufacturer and accessories |
| Battery | Rechargeable; advertised up to six months under stated usage | Simpler models may last longer, depending on design and activity |
| Privacy surface | Lock, camera, doorbell, cloud account and optional biometric data | Usually smaller when used only as a lock |
| Failure complexity | More components and network dependencies | Potentially simpler when used offline or with limited integrations |
Who should consider it?
Secure View is a reasonable candidate for a homeowner who has a standard deadbolt-equipped entry door, a compatible myQ garage setup and a 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi network. It is especially relevant to people who want a single installation to provide locking, video, doorbell alerts and scheduled person-detection automation.
Be cautious if you need an offline lock, have an unusual door, storm door or glass door, dislike cameras at the entrance, require biometric features in a restricted jurisdiction, or want independently verified stranger recognition. A conventional smart lock plus a separate video doorbell may offer more flexibility and a smaller failure and privacy footprint.

Chamberlain’s myQ Secure View is a notable all-in-one access product, and myQ advertises automation that can lock the front door and close a compatible garage opener when it detects a person during configured times. The dependable description is person-detection-triggered automation—not guaranteed stranger or intruder recognition.
Before relying on it, verify the exact door and opener compatibility, subscription requirement for Smart Secure, live price, battery expectations and privacy terms. Keep the physical key available, maintain the garage safety sensors and remember that a camera’s detection judgment is not a substitute for safe installation or human awareness.
