GoVacuum advertised a 24-karat-gold-plated model at $1 million, but there is no evidence that one sold for that amount. The strongest documented record belongs to the HYLA GST Swarovski Edition, listed by Guinness World Records at £21,900. Neither figure should be confused with the price of a currently available everyday vacuum.
The eight examples below separate luxury novelties, promotional one-offs and expensive production machines so that asking prices, record prices and real-world retail prices are not treated as equivalent.

How expensive can a vacuum cleaner really be?
Vacuum cleaners can be costly for very different reasons. Precious-metal plating and crystals create collector value; sophisticated motors, filtration and floor heads create engineering value; limited production creates scarcity. Those categories overlap, but they do not prove the same thing about cleaning performance.
This is not a verified ranking of eight vacuums currently for sale. It is a documented selection of the most expensive vacuum cleaners associated with published prices, official records or clearly described luxury editions. Availability and price status are identified for every entry.
#1 Best Overall
- [55KPA Powerful Suction] Cordless vacuum cleaner is equipped with a powerful 650W brushless motor with the strongest suction power up to 55,000Pa, which can easily capture dust, crumbs, pet hair and large particles on carpets, hardwood floors and tiles, and efficiently solve the cleaning problems.

1. GoVacuum GV62711 24K Gold-Plated Vacuum — advertised at $1 million
The GoVacuum GV62711 is the machine behind the famous “million-dollar vacuum” headline. GoVacuum announced it on June 27, 2012, as a vacuum plated in 24-karat gold with a HEPA bag, multiple cleaning modes, a wide nozzle and a powerful motor. Its advertised asking price was $1,000,000.
That wording matters. GoVacuum later said it planned a limited run of 100 and had not sold any gold vacuums at the time of its follow-up announcement. The available evidence therefore supports “marketed at” or “offered for” $1 million—not “sold for $1 million.”
- Year: 2012
- Price type: Advertised asking price
- Availability: Historical novelty product; current availability is not established
- Why it cost so much: Gold plating, exclusivity and publicity
- Evidence: GoVacuum announcements reported by PR.com and PR.com
The gold finish does not establish superior suction, filtration, carpet pickup or durability. It made the machine a luxury object first and a vacuum cleaner second.

The HYLA GST Swarovski Edition is the best-supported official record holder in this group. Guinness World Records lists it at £21,900 and records the model as available for purchase from August 14, 2012. The record entry says two units had been sold when it was recorded.
HYLA’s U.S. page identifies the model as a Guinness World Records certificate holder and gives a suggested retail price of $21,900. The machine is Swarovski-encrusted and based on HYLA’s GST water-filtration system, which uses water as the primary filtration medium rather than a conventional disposable bag.
- Year: 2012 record entry
- Price type: Official record price and manufacturer-listed suggested retail price
- Availability: Historical; the available evidence does not establish ordinary new-product availability in 2026
- Decoration: Swarovski elements
- Cleaning system: Water-based filtration and air-cleaning positioning
- Sources: Guinness World Records and HYLA U.S.
Published crystal counts vary widely, so an exact number should not be treated as settled. More importantly, crystals add decorative and collectible value; they do not inherently improve suction or filtration.

3. Swarovski Electrolux — £13,825
In 2009, a one-off Electrolux vacuum customized by Polish designer Łukasz Jemiol was reported at £13,825, or just under $20,000 at the time. The machine was described as carrying 3,730 Swarovski crystals.
The Swarovski Electrolux is historical context rather than a current product. It demonstrates that luxury-vacuum pricing was already being driven by jewelry-style customization before the million-dollar GoVacuum announcement.
- Year: 2009
- Price type: Historical reported price
- Availability: One of a kind; not current retail stock
- Why it cost so much: Custom crystal decoration and exclusivity

4. SEBO GV62712 Felix Crystallize Onyx — “priceless”
GoVacuum and SEBO reportedly created the GV62712 Felix Crystallize Onyx from a SEBO Felix Onyx vacuum. The one-off machine included 1,000 Swarovski Elements, diamond dust on the power nozzle and a silver-plated handle.
It was described as “priceless” and intended as a promotional giveaway in 2012. That does not mean it had a zero-dollar value, nor does it provide a defensible market price. “Priceless” was promotional language, not a completed sale or independent valuation.
- Year: 2012
- Price type: No verified retail price
- Availability: One-off promotional machine
- Materials: Swarovski Elements, diamond dust and silver plating

What makes a luxury vacuum expensive?
Precious materials and decoration
Gold plating, crystals, silver and diamond dust can overwhelm the price of the underlying appliance. They may matter to a collector, but they do not demonstrate better floor cleaning.

Engineering and filtration
Premium production vacuums spend their money differently. Motor design, sealed filtration, powered floor heads, sensors, battery systems and accessory quality can raise manufacturing and retail costs without making the machine a luxury collectible.
Service and ownership
For an expensive vacuum, serviceability matters. Buyers should check replacement filters, bags, batteries, hoses, floor heads, warranty terms and authorized repair support. A decorative one-off may rely on the parts of its underlying base model, while its custom exterior components may be impossible to replace.
Four expensive vacuums people could realistically encounter
The next four are not contenders for the million-dollar headline. They are premium consumer machines and a useful benchmark for what expensive, technically advanced or highly equipped vacuums cost in the current market evidence.

The Miele Complete C3 Brilliant is a premium bagged canister vacuum rather than a jeweled collector piece. Miele’s product information specifies a 1,200-watt motor, HEPA AirClean filtration, a powered carpet head, a parquet tool and a 36-foot operating radius.
Third-party listings have shown prices of roughly $1,499 to $1,920.99, but availability is inconsistent and some listings identify the model as unavailable or out of stock. Treat those figures as seller-dependent signals, not a current official Miele price.
- Price type: Third-party listed prices
- Availability: Difficult to source or potentially discontinued, depending on seller and market
- Best suited to: Buyers who prefer a bagged canister, powered carpet cleaning and extensive accessories

Are the most expensive vacuums worth buying?
For collectors
A jeweled or gold-plated vacuum may make sense as a design object if authenticity, provenance and rarity matter more than cleaning efficiency. Before paying a premium, establish ownership history, documentation, condition and whether the underlying vacuum can still be serviced.
Best Value

For allergy-conscious households
Focus on sealed filtration, filter availability, bag or basin maintenance and service support. A luxury finish does not prove better allergen containment. With a water-based system such as HYLA’s, investigate how the basin must be emptied, washed and dried, and which air-quality claims apply to the specific edition.
For carpet owners
Prioritize a powered brush head, airflow, height adjustment, filtration and access to replacement parts. The most expensive decorative vacuum may clean no better than the ordinary platform beneath its embellishments.
For hard-floor owners
Maneuverability, soft-floor tools and easy debris pickup may matter more than maximum motor specifications. A wet-cleaning model can be useful where its added maintenance is acceptable.

For value-focused buyers
The luxury editions are difficult to justify as cleaning purchases. A well-supported machine with available consumables and service is usually a more rational investment than a limited collector piece.
Bottom line: the million-dollar vacuum is not the same as the record holder
GoVacuum’s GV62711 holds the strongest claim to the highest advertised price: $1 million for a 24-karat-gold-plated vacuum. The HYLA GST Swarovski Edition holds the stronger claim to the documented Guinness record, at £21,900. The Swarovski Electrolux and SEBO Felix Crystallize Onyx belong to the separate world of one-off luxury and promotional objects.
For a vacuum someone might realistically buy, the relevant prices are closer to $900–$1,000 for premium Dyson cordless models, or roughly $1,500–$1,900 for a difficult-to-source Miele C3 Brilliant listing. Those machines may offer useful engineering, but price alone does not prove better cleaning.
